The fact that Paul and Eric were able to create a game inside the non-ladder multiplayer section of Anton’s Diablo II system meant that the so-called rebirth process used by the Izmortans hadn’t affected Anton’s Diablo System, just as he had suspected.

According to Paul and Eric, the rebirth process had stripped them of all the standard spells they had learned. The impact was minimal because both of them had only managed to memorize a couple of cantrip spells.

They also mentioned that the wizards who conducted the rebirth process had explained that it only stripped them of the spells they had learned. Even though the process was supposed to strip them of their wizardry rank, the wizard had explained that it wouldn’t truly erase all of their achievements as wizards.

What this meant was that if an applicant had reached the rank of archmage, a crystal test of wizardry rank would show that the archmage status had disappeared and that the wizard had fallen back to novice rank. However, the applicant’s magical capacity would remain. In a short amount of time, they would regain the rank they had previously achieved.

According to the wizard, the fastest a wizard had regained the rank of archmage was one month.

Paul and Eric mentioned that even though the wizard had said that, their Diablo II classes in the non-ladder multiplayer section of Anton’s Diablo II remained unchanged.

Still, it was better to have concrete confirmation. It allowed Anton to apply to become a member of the magic organization he had chosen with peace of mind.

They still hadn’t informed their fathers about their supposed failure to join the magic organizations simply because Paul and Eric’s fathers were still outside.

The issue was that, at the inn where they were staying, both of their families had already realized that their return meant they had failed, and everyone was behaving as if a family member had died.

Paul and Eric told Anton that they really weren’t worried about their fathers’ reactions. Everyone in the family, especially their fathers, had been prepared for the possibility that they would fail since the acceptance rate was extremely low.

The fact that Paul and Eric would inform their families about Anton hiring them as family retainers, and that Anton’s family was willing to support the two of them in becoming wizards—even to the point of allowing them to bring their families back to Ormunda using portal scrolls—meant that, at the very least, their families wouldn’t become destitute.

Not that Paul and Eric’s families would have fallen into poverty if they weren’t successful in joining any of the organizations in Izmorta. As they had said repeatedly, their families were already prepared in case they failed.

“Are you sure your fathers would accept becoming my family’s retainers?” Anton asked.

Eric told Anton that his family and its businesses, especially the cinema, were well known among the ordinary citizens of Ormunda. They would only need to tell their fathers that the Sunder family planned to expand into other kingdoms and that both Paul and Eric would be part of that plan.

It meant they could earn a considerable amount of wealth. The fact that Anton’s family would also support Paul and Eric in becoming wizards meant that becoming his retainers had all the advantages and no downsides.

Anton needed to settle Paul and Eric and their families in Ormunda before he could truly begin immersing himself in what was going to be his new life as a member of Traveler’s Haven.

He already thought of himself as part of the organization, even though he had no idea what it was really about. The only thing he knew was that they would teach him the necessary skills to become a multidimensional traveler.

He would go to Paul and Eric’s inn the next day since he thought their families would need the night to come to terms with the news that Paul and Eric had failed.

The fact that neither young man felt guilty about lying to their families about failing to join the organizations meant that they truly didn’t share the desire their fathers had to join one of the magic organizations in Izmorta.

Still, Anton wasn’t shortchanging them. Giving them access to his Diablo System would lead them to enormous power, and becoming employees of the family businesses would allow them to earn a fortune.

He didn’t know if Paul and Eric would receive the same opportunities from any of the magic organizations in Ormunda, but he thought they were lucky that Anton was willing to support them simply because he had used them as guinea pigs to confirm the efficacy of the so-called rebirth process against his Diablo System.

The next day, Anton followed Paul and Eric’s instructions to find their inn.

The moment he arrived, Paul and Eric’s fathers greeted him with enormous respect, which basically told Anton that they were now treating him as their employer.

Paul, Eric, and their fathers went to one of the inn’s private meeting rooms. They wanted to confirm some information about joining Anton’s family.

“Before we start, our sons told us that you gave them some sort of magic that allowed them to become extremely powerful during our journey. They showed us a little of their capabilities, but the issue is that they mentioned they couldn’t tell us about it because you bound them magically,” Paul’s father said.

“My family possesses a bloodline legacy magic that allowed me to become extremely powerful. I’ve given both Paul and Eric limited access to that magic, and it gave them a tremendous amount of power. I needed to bind them because my family’s magic is special, and I didn’t want information about it to spread,” Anton replied.

“The fact that it gave them such tremendous strength means that it’s beneficial to them. It also wouldn’t prevent them from learning standard magic. If you let them join my family as retainers, I’ll make sure they become powerful wizards. I don’t know if they mentioned it to you, but our family plans to expand our cinema business into different kingdoms. You won’t even have to relocate permanently because we’ll provide you with all the portal scrolls you need to travel to and from wherever we need you to establish a cinema,” Anton continued.

The next details they wanted to discuss were Paul and Eric’s compensation, but Anton declined to provide any details.

He simply told them that he wasn’t the one handling such matters. His aunt, the butler, or his father handled those discussions. Once they returned to Ormunda, they could speak to them about the details of their compensation.

After that, Anton assured them that if Paul and Eric’s fathers didn’t want to join the cinema business and preferred to continue practicing their trades, the Sunder family would assist them in establishing their own shops.

Their meeting lasted for a couple of hours, and Anton was beginning to grow tired of it. He almost told them that if they didn’t want to join his family, then so be it, but both Paul and Eric were looking at him with pleading eyes.

Anton could only sigh internally and endure their fathers’ constant hesitation.

The final matter they wanted to discuss was who would pay for the portal scrolls back to Ormunda.

Apparently, the price of tickets for the portal network that the Ormundan wizards were establishing was rumored to be enormous.

Anton rolled his eyes at both Paul and Eric’s fathers and reiterated that the scrolls came from his family, meaning he could produce them whenever he wanted.

It was just that he was supposedly still not allowed to use them, but Anton assured them that once they decided to return to Ormunda, no one would question his use of the portal scrolls.

Thankfully, both Paul and Eric’s fathers finally decided to return to Ormunda using one of Anton’s portal scrolls.

He told them that he would wait for them at his cottage. They needed time to prepare, so he left a raven behind that would guide them to the cottage he had recently purchased.
