Chapter 765: Jiangg Ning is Pregnant

  • Next Chapter

‘?’ Jiangg Ning didn’t understand what that meant at first.

“Turn onto your side.”

“Oh, okay.” She quickly complied.

“Everything looks healthy. I’ll get you a report. You can go back to Dr. Luo now.”

As the doctor finished speaking, she pulled out a handful of paper towels and handed them to her.

Jiangg Ning sat up, mechanically wiping the gel from her lower abdomen, and asked with a slight frown:

“I still don’t understand what you mean.”

“You’re pregnant.”

“I’m preg—pregnant with what????”

…

「Outside the airport.」

“Why did it suddenly start raining?” Jiangg Yao looked up at the fine strands of rain. Layers of dark clouds had already piled up in the sky, and the windshield was quickly becoming covered in droplets.

“Didn’t you check the forecast before you left? There are thunderstorms today. I heard a rumble of thunder a little while ago.”

“I guess I didn’t hear it then.”

“Well, you’re back safely, that’s what matters. And you didn’t even get a tan. Let me see,” Chen Yuan said, looking at Jiangg Yao as she took off her mask. He cupped her face. “Leaving without a single word… you’ve got a wild streak, don’t you?”

“I was just afraid I wouldn’t be able to leave if I saw you…” Jiangg Yao pouted, giving him a pitiful look.

“No one was forcing you to go. You could have just stayed with me,” Chen Yuan said calmly. “And yet you managed to stay away for over a month.”

“Of course I couldn’t bear to!” Jiangg Yao said hurriedly.

In truth, Jiangg Yao missed Chen Yuan every single moment she was away.

She thought of him when she saw magnificent landscapes, when she met interesting foreigners, when she felt homesick in a strange hotel in a foreign country…

She would deeply regret her sudden departure.

Hearing Chen Yuan’s words, Jiangg Yao’s eyes quickly turned red. She didn’t want to cry, but she couldn’t suppress the wave of emotion that washed over her.

She didn’t know when it started, but Chen Yuan had become her most trusted anchor, an indispensable part of her life.

“You didn’t even say you missed me while I was gone for so long. I should be the one giving you a hard time,” Jiangg Yao said. Though she was hugging his arm and cuddling close, her words were still defiant.

In reality, she could never bear to give Chen Yuan any trouble.

She was already calling him ‘hubby’ this and ‘hubby’ that; she was completely his.

“You don’t always have to say it.”

Chen Yuan turned his head and glanced at Yaoyao. He slowly started the engine and stroked her head.

He knew that if he had wanted Jiangg Yao to come back, it would have been incredibly simple. He would only have had to ask, and she might have cut her trip short and rushed back from thousands of miles away. But Chen Yuan didn’t want that. Jiangg Yao wasn’t his accessory, not something to be summoned and dismissed at will. She deserved to have her own life and her own space.

That’s why, after so many video calls and chats, Chen Yuan would always end them with a simple, “Have fun.”

‘If you love someone, why would you restrain their freedom?’

In the rain, the sedan’s taillights flashed intermittently.

It drove on slowly.

The wipers swayed back and forth, clearing streaks of rain from the windshield.

…

CRACK-BOOM—

An exceptionally loud clap of thunder echoed in Jiangg Ning’s ears, making her whole body tremble. It jolted her from her daze as if from a nightmare.

But she wasn’t dreaming. This was reality.

Her leg brushed against the corner of a stainless steel chair, and a sudden chill shot through her entire body.

“Everything looks normal. See here?” Dr. Luo asked patiently. “This spot on the ultrasound is the gestational sac, and this is the primitive heart tube. You can usually see it around the forty-day mark. Counting from your last period, it’s been exactly six weeks… Have you had any physical symptoms recently?”

But she didn’t hear a single word.

Her mind was completely filled with two words, repeating endlessly: ‘I’m pregnant.’

But no matter how many times the words echoed in her head, she refused to believe it was true.

“But I don’t want to be pregnant,” she said, her voice strained.

Even someone as rational as her couldn’t control her emotions at that moment.

Dr. Luo paused for a moment.

“Try to stay calm. Not everyone is ready for the arrival of a new life. I’ve seen many people who desperately want a child, and I’ve also seen people like you, who are shocked by the news and find it hard to accept at first. Right now, don’t think about anything else. Just answer my questions. The most important thing is to make sure you’re healthy.”

Questions. Answers.

Jiangg Ning answered mechanically.

Her mind was in too much turmoil to think. The news had hit her like a flash flood, instantly overwhelming the defenses of her reason.

Jiangg Ning didn’t know how she got out of the hospital, or how she ended up in a quiet, secluded cafe.

She was in a complete daze.

She stared out the floor-to-ceiling window at the fine, steady rain…

The first thing Jiangg Ning did was silence all her notifications. Then she called Gu Wanqing. She just couldn’t bear this unbelievable news alone; her mind was in too much chaos to think.

She didn’t know how much time had passed.

Worried about her best friend, Gu Wanqing rushed over and parked outside the cafe. Holding her purse over her head to shield herself from the rain, she stepped inside, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of Jiangg Ning.

After so many years of friendship, she knew that Jiangg Ning would never contact her unless it was an emergency.

“What’s wrong, Ningning? You called me in such a rush, what on earth happened? Is it your mom? Did something happen to her again?” she asked, slightly out of breath.

“Wanqing… I-I don’t know how to say it,” Jiangg Ning stammered.

“Don’t be afraid. Whatever it is, I’m here with you.”

“I… I’m pregnant…”

Then, Jiangg Ning explained everything to Gu Wanqing—why she went to the hospital and what the report said.
