My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister
Chapter 766: Jiangg Ning Is Pregnant
It had to be said.
The effect of having someone to confide in was obvious.
At the very least, the icy chill that had spread through her body was gone.
“I just don’t understand how I could be pregnant. We were careful every single time… This is so sudden. It’s ruined all my plans. My mother’s affairs have just been settled, I just finally earned my master’s degree in finance, and I have an entire document filled with my plans for the future… Why?”
Listening to Jiangg Ning’s questioning voice, Gu Wanqing was also a little shocked.
It was the first time she had ever seen Jiangg Ning like this, but she could understand. After all, no woman remains calm when she finds out she’s going to be a mother.
“Ningning, they never advertise contraception as being one hundred percent effective. It’s perfectly normal to get pregnant by sheer chance. Are you sure you took precautions perfectly every single time?”
“There were… a few times we’d been drinking, but I didn’t think it would be a problem.”
“Can you be one hundred percent sure when you’ve been drinking?”
Jiangg Ning’s head started to ache. She had to admit Gu Wanqing had a point.
The lights were dim, and she and Chen Yuan were both tipsy. Anything could have happened under those circumstances.
But it happened. Just like that.
She just couldn’t accept it.
‘It’s a new life!’ It had appeared in her belly, just like that, without any warning. She had planned to have children, but years from now, down to the very month… By then, she would have achieved her career goals and could welcome a new life with her full, undivided attention.
‘Why am I pregnant?!’
She couldn’t help but ask herself this question for the thousandth time.
“Have you told Chen Yuan?” Gu Wanqing asked.
“No. Right now, you’re the only one who knows,” Jiangg Ning replied listlessly.
“Yaoyao doesn’t know either?”
“She just got back from abroad today. Chen Yuan went to pick her up. How could she possibly know?”
“Then you really need to think about this.”
“Think about what?”
“Telling Chen Yuan.”
“I can’t think right now. Let me get my thoughts straight first…”
Jiangg Ning had always been a very stubborn person. She had many obsessions that others could never understand, and it was precisely these obsessions that had made her who she was. Among them were her resolve to take good care of Jiangg Yao and give her a good life; her drive to constantly study and work hard so she would never have regrets; and of course, her need to plan everything out, to draft a blueprint for her life. But out of all these fixations, one stood out more than any other.
What she hated most in her life were people who didn’t respect the act of bringing a child into the world.
Childbirth.
Bringing one’s own flesh and blood into this world of suffering.
This little life would have to grow, to learn, to face pain and setbacks. It would have to learn to love and be loved, to find the meaning of its own existence, and of course, to understand the cruelty of society and what truly makes the world go round.
At their core, all people are selfish.
When Jiangg Ning realized this from her own family’s experiences, she went through an incredibly painful transformation, changing from a naive little girl and truly establishing her own worldview. If she had spent her life dwelling on why her childhood was so bleak, she would have been doomed to live under a shadow forever.
But she hadn’t.
She respected every life.
Even a child should have the right to choose.
They shouldn’t be warped by their parents, their family, and society from the moment they are born.
Because she hadn’t been given a choice, nor had she been shown the respect she deserved.
This life inside her… no matter what, she would never choose to give it up. To her, being a mother was a sacred thing.
“I never expected this… I still can’t bring myself to believe it. I don’t know how to tell him. Just a few days ago, we were planning our future together. I promised we’d get married next year… With his status, I don’t know how many people are watching his every move, how many people are talking about him every day. I know his father is paving the way for him. This is a critical time for his career…” Jiangg Ning said, one sentence after another.
Gu Wanqing heard every word.
