My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister
Chapter 767: I'm Going to Be a Dad!?
She looked at Jiang Ning with a helpless expression, feeling that her words and worries were pointless at this point. It wasn’t that she couldn’t empathize; Gu Wanqing just felt that Jiang Ning had her priorities wrong.
The most important thing right now wasn’t her future. It was figuring out how to handle this pregnancy.
“Calm down… No matter how critical things are, what’s happened has happened. The pregnancy is an undeniable fact, so what’s the use of talking about that other stuff now? Ningning, I know it’s hard for any woman to stay calm when facing something like this. It’s okay, we have time.”
Gu Wanqing reached out and gently took Jiang Ning’s hand, her gaze encouraging.
She and Jiang Ning had been friends for many years, not just casual besties. Gu Wanqing had admired her from the very first day they met. They had encouraged each other through the long years of their education, right up until graduation.
Later, she started working, even got married and had a child, but her relationship with Jiang Ning never changed.
Sometimes, not being in constant contact was a sign of a deep and solid friendship.
So, seeing Jiang Ning in this state, Gu Wanqing’s heart ached for her.
In her eyes, Jiang Ning deserved the most outstanding man in the world. When she found out that Jiang Ning had somehow fallen in love with Chen Yuan along with Jiang Yao, she was shocked beyond belief and naturally felt a sense of animosity.
But no matter what, she only wanted Jiang Ning to be happy.
“I really should calm down…” Jiang Ning said quietly.
“First, you have to accept the reality of it.”
“I don’t know how.” Jiang Ning slumped onto the table. When she lifted her head again, her eyes were brimming with tears.
“How could this happen… Why am I pregnant? And of all times, now… We took precautions every single time… I must be dreaming, right?” Jiang Ning was overwhelmed with a sense of injustice.
Ever since leaving the hospital, she had been bottling up her emotions, but now, she couldn’t hold them in any longer.
Fat tears streamed from the corners of her eyes, soaking the collar of her blouse.
Seeing this, Gu Wanqing quickly got up from her chair and sat beside her, letting Jiang Ning lean on her shoulder. She gently wiped away her tears and comforted her softly, “No matter what happens, your family and friends will be by your side. We’ll face this together. If you need to cry, just let it all out…”
A long time passed.
Crying really did help to release her emotions.
After a long cry, Jiang Ning’s shoulders continued to tremble slightly as her sobs slowly subsided.
“There’s no point in regret. You’re right, Wanqing. Since it’s already happened, I have to find a way to face it… Oh! I just remembered! I’ve been drinking a lot lately. That won’t affect the baby, will it?”
Jiang Ning suddenly looked up, her face filled with panic.
“How much did you drink?”
“I’ve had to entertain clients for work, and I drank quite a lot a few times.” She was suddenly at a complete loss.
She had completely forgotten about that and was only just now realizing the implications.
‘You’re supposed to completely abstain from alcohol during pregnancy, because it circulates through the bloodstream and affects the baby…’
“But you’ve already been to the hospital. The doctor would have been able to see if there was a problem. If they didn’t mention anything, it means there’s nothing wrong. And didn’t they give you the report? It said there were no abnormalities.”
“I should call and ask, just to be sure.”
Thinking about this new problem, Jiang Ning’s mind cleared, and she was able to think rationally again.
She then found the contact number from her hospital registration on her phone, located Dr. Luo’s number, and dialed it.
…
“Yes, yes, I understand. I’ll be sure to be careful from now on, Dr. Luo.”
After hanging up, Jiang Ning heaved a long sigh of relief.
A moment ago, when she remembered how much she’d been drinking, she had broken out in a cold sweat.
If her drinking had really affected the baby’s health, Jiang Ning would never forgive herself. The guilt would eat her alive.
“Feeling better now? …Since you’re pregnant, you need to figure out how to take a break from work. A pregnant woman needs to act like one.”
“Yeah…” Jiang Ning’s expression was miserable.
“When do you plan on telling Chen Yuan?”
“I don’t know. Do you think he’ll be able to accept it?”
“He has to accept it, whether he wants to or not. He’s the baby’s father. What’s he going to do if he doesn’t accept it? Abandon you and the baby?”
“He wouldn’t do that. It just… this messes up all our plans.”
“Oh, Ningning, plans never keep up with reality. People aren’t machines that have to follow instructions to the letter. We can be flexible. If you’re truly set on your career goals, you can just take a break for a year or two. You can still achieve them after the baby is born. As long as you have the ambition, it’s never too late.”
“But do you think the baby can have a healthy upbringing… after all, Chen Yuan is also going to marry Yaoyao. What am I supposed to tell my child in the future… To be honest, I’m not ready to be a mother.”
“There’s no point in discussing these things with me. You need to calm down, then go back and make a proper plan with Chen Yuan and your elders. Whatever you do, don’t hide it. This isn’t something you can handle on your own anymore. Listen to me.”
Gu Wanqing’s expression was incredibly serious as she stared intently at Jiang Ning.
Her gaze left Jiang Ning with no room to look away, so she could only nod.
‘It really was the only right thing to do.’
…
The two drove and finally arrived back home.
After more than two hours of calming down, it was safe to say that Jiang Ning was gradually coming to terms with the reality of her pregnancy.
Outside, a light drizzle was still falling. Water droplets streamed down the white Volkswagen, and the ground was soaked.
