My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister
Chapter 769: I'm Going to Be a Father!?
Given her personality, she would have kept something like this to herself for at least a few days. Only after she’d meticulously planned out every detail would she have brought it up at home.
But Gu Wanqing’s words had made a huge impact.
Jiangg Ning realized that she couldn’t just take it upon herself to arrange everything. While she saw it as a good habit she’d developed over the years, their life was one they shared, and Chen Yuan had the right to know everything.
Even though he was completely confused, Chen Yuan couldn’t help but get serious. He followed behind Jiangg Ning, carefully helping her up the stairs and into their room. He ran through countless possibilities in his mind, figuring it might be a problem at work, since things at the Mingzhu City Resource Planning Bureau had been turbulent lately.
Fortunately, he didn’t panic.
After everything they’d been through, a man has to grow up sometime.
Confidence comes from the ability to solve problems.
CLICK—
Jiangg Ning quietly bolted the door.
With her back to the door, she stared intently at Chen Yuan.
“Have a seat.”
“Okay. Go ahead,” Chen Yuan said, sitting down obediently on the edge of the bed.
“I…” Jiangg Ning took a deep breath, then said with difficulty, “I’m pregnant.”
In an instant, the entire bedroom fell deathly silent.
It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
The expression on Chen Yuan’s face froze completely, and he became as still as a statue.
His mind went blank.
“What?!”
“I’m pregnant. I went to the hospital this morning. This is the report… I never thought this would happen. What are we going to do…?” Jiangg Ning pulled out the medical report and handed it to Chen Yuan before throwing her arms around him. “We used protection every time,” she said miserably. “How could I be pregnant? I don’t get it. This is just so sudden.”
Chen Yuan took the medical report. His hands were shaking as he read it, word by word, line by line.
“Gestational sac located in the lower-middle portion… no signs of ectopic pregnancy… faint bilateral echoes detected…”
In Chen Yuan’s eyes, the lines of tiny print seemed to lift off the page, forming a small halo that spun endlessly above his head.
Spinning until he was completely dizzy.
Chen Yuan glanced at Jiangg Ning, then looked back down at the report.
He fought back the urge to ask, ‘Ningning, are you kidding me?’ He knew Jiangg Ning would never joke about something like this.
But he was truly stunned.
“Wait, just… give me a second.” He held up a hand and swallowed hard.
Jiangg Ning, beside him, nodded. “Mhm,” she managed, her voice thick and nasal.
She leaned against him.
In truth, Chen Yuan was taking the news relatively well. For someone his age, the idea of becoming a “father” had always seemed like a distant reality.
But alas, life is unpredictable.
Or perhaps… people are unpredictable.
Both he and Jiangg Ning had undoubtedly been tricked by Jiangg Ruxue.
It was ironic. After more than twenty years of being sharp and savvy, Jiangg Ning had been done in by her own mother.
‘Pregnant…’ Chen Yuan’s brows furrowed as his mind raced.
On the few occasions they’d been drunk, even if Jiangg Ning had been too out of it to remember, Chen Yuan was certain he had used protection every single time. In fact, the box was nearly empty.
Anyone with common sense knew that using protection was ninety-nine percent effective at preventing pregnancy.
It was practically impossible to get pregnant.
He replayed the last month’s events in his mind over and over, fragmented memories rushing back and flashing before his eyes.
Jiangg Ning, understanding, didn’t interrupt him.
She just watched as Chen Yuan, clutching the report, was lost in thought.
“That little box… your mother gave it to me. She didn’t… tamper with them, did she?” After thinking it over and over, Chen Yuan slowly voiced his suspicion.
It wasn’t a baseless suspicion. When Chen Yuan had met Jiangg Ruxue, she had promised to help him, though she never specified how.
“That has to be it.”
As if a lightbulb went off in her head, Jiangg Ning had a sudden realization. She immediately started rummaging through the drawer next to the bed.
The RUSTLING sound made Chen Yuan turn his head.
“What are you looking for?”
“Are we out of the ones in the little box?”
“No, there are a few left. They’re under the pillow.”
Jiangg Ning stood up and moved the pillow aside. Sure enough, she saw the little box, its wrapper glinting under the light. She quickly tore open the packaging of one and went to the bathroom.
Just as Chen Yuan was wondering what exactly she was doing,
A few seconds later,
Jiangg Ning slowly walked out of the bathroom, the fury on her face unmistakable…
She had filled the condom with water and held it up.
Instantly, beads of water gathered at the bottom and began to fall.
DRIP—
DRIP—
Dripping onto the floor.
“Jiangg! Ru! Xue!” she bit out, one syllable at a time.
She spun around and stormed out into the hallway.
Jiangg Ning had never been this furious in her life.
Her most painful memory was of Jiangg Ruxue tearing all of her beloved books from the shelves and throwing them away.
She’d been scolded and forbidden from reading “that sort of thing.”
The incident had left an indelible, painful mark on her childhood.
And now, after she’d grown up—after she had tried so hard to become an adult—Jiangg Ruxue was interfering in her life yet again.
Jiangg Ning was so disappointed in her.
Her mother simply didn’t understand the implications.
Jiangg Ning had earned her degree to advance her career. She had her own plans. She wanted to grow alongside Chen Yuan, to build their future together.
Now, all of that was derailed.
‘Does Jiangg Ruxue even understand what life is? It’s not just about family and a partner! There are also dreams to achieve and a career to build! Otherwise, how are you supposed to create value and find a sense of fulfillment?’
