My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered

Chapter 210: Primordial lotus

The heavy bronze doors yielded with a deep, grinding thud that resonated straight through the soles of Vince’s boots, the vibration climbing his calves and settling in the hollow of his chest like an ancient heartbeat answering his own.

As the massive leaves parted, the oppressive, sterile cold of the subterranean stairwell vanished. In its place came a wave of thick, humid air saturated with an almost suffocating scent of blooming ozone and crushed amethyst, a fragrance so rich it coated the tongue and made the lungs ache with the sudden weight of living magic.

"By the heavens ..." Elena breathed, stepping past Vince as her jaw dropped, her eyes widening with a mixture of scholarly hunger and quiet, trembling awe.

They stood on a natural stone ledge overlooking a subterranean abyss that stretched as far as the eye could see. Instead of cold Archon iron or black obsidian, the cavern was a lush, primeval biome frozen in time, a forgotten cradle of creation where the world itself seemed to hold its breath. Giant bioluminescent flora cast a soft, ethereal violet glow across winding rivers of liquid mana that whispered and sighed as they flowed, their surfaces shimmering with currents of pure possibility. Veins of molten gold pulsed through the cavernous roots above like slow, deliberate heartbeats, illuminating a massive, solitary altar carved from a single block of raw white crystal at the center of the valley, its surface so pure it seemed to drink the light and return it softer, kinder.

Vetra dropped low into a relaxed, predatory crouch, every muscle coiled with the quiet readiness of a hunter who had walked through worse places and still lived. Her crimson-scaled tail swept behind her in a slow, thoughtful arc, and her amber eyes glowed in the dim light, reflecting the violet luminescence with an almost sorrowful intensity. She didn’t reach for a sword; she simply unbuttoned the leather sheath at her waist where twin hunting daggers rested, flexing her long, claw-tipped fingers as heat shimmered off her knuckles in faint, wavering waves that spoke of barely contained power and older, deeper instincts.

"The air down here is dense," Vetra murmured, her nostrils flaring as a wisp of smoke curled from her lips, carrying the scent of distant wildfires and something older still. "No beasts. No insects. Just raw, untouched energy. It feels like stepping into a dragon’s lair before the world burned."

Welcome to my womb , darling , the Goddess’s voice purred directly into Vince’s ear, the words wrapping around him with intimate warmth that belied the vastness of the space.

Vince didn’t even flinch this time. He looked over to see her floating beside him, casually lying on her side in mid-air with one leg crossed over the other, her plush, translucent silk dress draping over her generous curves in soft folds that caught the violet light and turned it into liquid gold. She pointed a long, glowing finger toward the white crystal altar in the distance, her expression soft with something that almost resembled longing.

Do you see it? she asked, her golden eyes twinkling with childish delight that could not quite hide the ancient weight beneath. On the altar.

Vince squinted, the air itself seeming to thicken around his focus. Floating an inch above the pristine white stone was a lotus flower carved from pure, iridescent crystal, its petals trembling with a quiet, living pulse. It hummed at the exact same frequency as the soul-link crests on Elena and Vetra, a soft, resonant note that vibrated in the marrow of his bones and stirred something deep and wordless in his chest.

"What is that?" Vince asked aloud, the question carrying more weight than he intended.

Elena instantly turned, holding her crystal slate with the practiced efficiency of someone who trusted numbers more than mystery. "What is what, Vince? The altar? It appears to be an ancient Archon energy receiver—"

"Not talking to you," Vince muttered, stepping down the stone path toward the altar, each footfall soft against rock that felt warm and almost welcoming beneath his boots.

Elena paused, sighed quietly, and tapped her slate, the soft click of her stylus sounding small and fragile in the vast space. "Subject continues dialogue with invisible companion. Adjusting mental stability index downward by two points..."

Vince ignored her and walked straight down the winding path, with Vetra gliding silently at his left flank like a coiled panther, her presence a steady, grounding heat against the cool miracle of the cavern.

As they reached the base of the altar, the invisible Goddess floated down, circling the lotus with her hands behind her back, her movements slow and almost reverent.

Take it, Vince , she murmured, her voice losing its teasing edge for a brief moment, replaced by a deep, ancient reverence that seemed to echo from the very walls of the cavern. That is a primordial lotus . When the Archons and celestial authorities had me reduced to nothing but a translucent machine, they stripped me of my physical manifestation. Once you filled my core with enough divine essence ...this lotus will act as a vessel for my physical body .

Vince stared at the glowing flower, feeling the quiet pull of it against his own soul, a gentle insistence that was neither command nor plea but something more intimate. "So I take this, pocket it, and whenever we... ’deposit’, it slowly absorbs the energy until you materialize?"

Precisely ,she beamed, leaning over his shoulder and pressing her cheek against his, the contact cool and electric all at once. Think of it as carrying my physical body in your pocket .

Vince rubbed his temples, the absurdity of the moment settling over him like a second skin. The sheer absurdity of holding a divine entity’s future physical form in his inventory space was almost too much to process, but he had long ceased trying to apply normal logic to this expedition; the world had already proven itself stranger and more beautiful than any map could contain.

He reached out. The moment his fingers brushed the crystal petals, a warm, soothing wave of energy rushed up his arm, settling pleasantly into his core like the first breath after a long dive, filling the hollow places he had not known were empty. He willed his dimensional storage to open, and with a soft flash of violet light, the lotus vanished into his pocket space, leaving only the lingering warmth and a quiet sense of completion.

The Goddess clapped her hands in delight, the sound bright and clear in the hush of the cavern. Wonderful! Step one complete! Now about that deposit —

Before she could finish her thought, a harsh, blaring siren shattered the tranquility of the subterranean paradise, the sound cutting through the soft violet glow like a blade through silk.

WHAOOO–WHAOOO–WHAOOO!

The soft violet light illuminating the cavern instantly turned a violent, blood-red, staining every leaf and every ripple of mana with the color of warning and old blood. The rivers of liquid mana turned stagnant, their gentle song silenced, and the ancient bronze doors behind them slammed shut with a deafening CRASH that shook the entire valley, sending fine crystal dust drifting down like mournful snow.

"Hostile reaction!" Vetra barked, instantly pivoting back-to-back with Elena, her voice low and steady despite the sudden violence of the change. Her bare fists ignited with bright, crimson dragon-fire that painted the air around her in living heat, her long claws extending as her tail lashed the air with controlled fury. "The doors locked!"

From the high, cavernous ceiling above the altar, heavy iron hatches opened with mechanical indifference. Down plummeted four colossal, centipede-like Archon Overseers, their multi-jointed metallic legs tearing into the crystal floor with shrieks of protest, their red visor eyes locking onto Vince with cold, programmed hatred.

"CRITICAL SECURITY BREACH," a cold, synthesized voice boomed through the chamber, the words echoing off the living walls as if the cavern itself recoiled. "PRIMORDIAL ANCHOR REMOVED. PURGE PROTOCOL INITIATED."

Vince turned slowly, watching the massive war-machines surround them, the golden lines of authority already beginning to stir beneath his skin in quiet recognition of the coming storm.

Beside him, the invisible Goddess floated upside down, resting her chin on her hands with a bright, wicked grin that held both delight and something fiercer, older, and far more personal.

Oh good, she giggled in his ear, her eyes flashing with golden light that cut through the blood-red gloom. More practice for my darling . Be sure to look pretty when you cut them down.

Vince let out a low, steady breath, the golden lines of authority flaring softly beneath his skin, a quiet promise of power answering the challenge of the machines and the deeper, more intimate challenge of the goddess who watched him with such fierce, anticipatory joy.
