My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 517: Give Up?
Chapter 515
BOOOM—!
A blast rippled outward, aimed directly at the Ogre King.
The Emperor-rank beast immediately snapped his warhammer into position. From the weapon, a translucent crystal barrier spread outward, wrapping around the King.
The shockwave slammed into the barrier with tremendous force, yet barely managed to push it backward. The King simply glared in Ray’s direction.
The Tribrid stood upright, his brows drawing closer as he stared at what had just happened.
He looked down at his hands.
The skin was beginning to crack under the strain, only to rapidly heal moments later.
Ray then turned his gaze toward Nebula standing beside him.
He stared at her for a moment before looking back at his hands and shaking his head.
*I don’t have any weapons strong enough to damage an Emperor-rank beast, but I have Nebula. Her hands are strong enough to do the trick. So I guess what we can do is simple, huh?*
"If only Felix was here, this would have been easier."
Ray heaved a sigh as he watched the King rise back to his full height. The crystal barrier around the beast retracted into the warhammer.
The King spun the massive weapon once, making it look almost like a staff in his hands.
Then his thighs bulged.
*He’s about to mo—*
Ray hadn’t even finished the thought when the King pounced forward.
The enormous beast crossed the distance between them in a single breath.
His warhammer came hurtling from the side, ready to crush the Tribrid once more.
[Rail Dash]
At the very last moment, Ray’s body blurred backward in a straight line.
The warhammer smashed into the spot he had occupied only an instant ago, pulverizing the ground and creating another enormous hollow.
That gave Nebula enough time to dash toward the beast, her bladed hands shooting forward.
However, the King spun around with astonishing fluidity, his weapon snapping into position.
CLANG!
Nebula’s bladed hands struck the warhammer with tremendous force.
The impact forced the King to slide an inch backward.
Then the pressure above him changed.
The King lifted his head.
Ray was descending from above, two lightning spears crackling violently in his hands.
"Human slow."
The King took a single step backward.
In a flash, the enormous beast had crossed six metres in reverse.
Ray crashed into the ground, his lightning spears ripping chunks of earth apart as arcs of electricity raced wildly across the floor.
The corner of Ray’s lips curled upward.
He took control of the sparks spreading across the ground.
[Chain Burst Activated]
The arcs suddenly fizzled with far greater intensity before surging forward at frightening speed.
Within a second, they struck the King’s legs.
Electricity dug into his flesh, bypassing the armor covering his body as electrifying pain coursed through him with merciless force.
The purpose was simple.
Paralyze him.
The same way the attack had worked against the King-rank beasts outside.
Ray gave Nebula the signal.
His Echo blitzed forward.
Her bladed hands whistled through the air as she rapidly closed the distance. In an instant, she was before the King.
Her bladed hands streaked toward him from the side, ready to cleave the enormous Ogre open.
But to Ray’s utter shock, the King moved.
Despite the paralysis Ray had expected, the Emperor-rank beast moved as though the electricity meant almost nothing.
He reappeared directly beside Nebula.
His weapon was already swinging.
Before Ray could even process what was happening, the warhammer crashed into Nebula’s side with tremendous force.
BOOOM!
The Echo was lifted completely off her feet and sent blasting into a wall.
And in that same breath, without wasting a single beat, the King darted forward like an arrow.
His weapon raced upward from below.
Lightning crackled fiercely across Ray’s body as he blurred to the side.
The hammer crashed through the air, causing the sound barrier to crack violently.
Ray rolled across his left shoulder before springing back to his feet almost immediately. Lightning coiled around his body and gathered around his hand, rapidly forming into a spear.
He wasted no time.
With all his might, Ray hurled the lightning spear forward.
Despite the incredible speed at which the spear tore through the air, the King simply lifted his warhammer.
CLANG!
The massive weapon swatted the spear aside as though it were nothing more than an inconvenience.
The spear plunged deep into the ground, electricity bursting from its tip and spreading across the chamber floor in a web of crackling sparks.
*Damn it. Damn it. Damn it. Why is nothing working?!*
Ray’s senses flooded the chamber.
He could feel Nebula slowly rising from where she had been blasted into the wall.
But it would take a few seconds before she recovered.
A few precious seconds that the Tribrid definitely didn’t have.
The Ogre King was already moving toward him.
Faster than even the Tribrid could move with his lightning ability.
He knew it.
He fucking knew that an Emperor-rank beast was way above his pay grade.
But greed.
Greed.
*Greed is really a wicked thing that could get you killed.*
Even as the warhammer raced toward his face, ready to smash his skull apart, the boy wasn’t about to give up.
[Thunder Step Activated]
BANG!
His body blurred backward in the nick of time, crossing six metres in a jiffy.
In that same instant, as the King’s weapon collided with nothing but air, Ray blurred forward again.
This time, his daggers were already in his grasp.
His eyes darted across the beast’s armored body, searching.
Searching for a gap.
A weakness.
Anything he could plunge his blades into.
He didn’t waste another second.
Ray darted into the air, his obsidian dagger racing toward the small opening between the plates of the beast’s armor.
*One strike... just one strike.*
But as though the King had read his intentions, its hand snapped into place.
The armor covering its arm intercepted Ray’s dagger with a deafening clang.
Sparks exploded between them.
Ray immediately performed a backflip, twisting through the air to escape just as a massive fist raced toward the space he had occupied a moment ago.
The punch tore through empty air.
Ray’s feet landed smoothly on the ground.
And Nebula appeared beside him.
A hairline crack ran across her otherwise sturdy chitin.
Ray glanced at her briefly, checking whether she was still alright.
She was.
He nodded before equipping his second dagger.
Then he wiped the small dribble of blood from his chin with the back of his hand.
His eyes narrowed as the Ogre King lifted its warhammer and pointed it toward him.
A wicked grin stretched across the beast’s face.
"Human getting tired? Human wants to give up?"
"Give up? Ha!"
Ray let out a short laugh before shifting one leg behind him and lowering his stance.
"The name’s Ray ’never give up’ Dawson."
BANG!
Ray and Nebula lunged forward simultaneously, attacking from opposite sides of the King as they attempted to flank the enormous beast.
Lightning fizzled violently around Ray’s weapons.
His eyes almost seemed to shine.
And he continued his words from earlier.
"...Nice to meet you."
