National Guardian's Gone and We're Done
Chapter 592 - 416: Just a Single Encounter
The three of them vanished without a trace, their forms as ethereal as ghosts. In the blink of an eye, they reappeared high in the sky. Their movements were silent, as if they were phantoms gliding through the darkness, leaving not a single mark behind.
Then, as if sharing a single mind, all three simultaneously made a deadly move.
Their arm muscles instantly tensed, veins bulging as they put all their strength into their hands. With speed and power beyond mortal comprehension, they viciously thrust their Silver Long Spears forward.
The entire motion was seamless and fluid, without the slightest hint of hesitation, yet it was as eerie as a silent phantom.
Even though their movements were as fast as lightning, the surrounding air remained as still as stagnant water, not even a ripple stirring. It was as if their actions transcended the very laws of nature.
In that instant, everything changed.
Three tall and mighty warhorses, exuding a fearsome aura like the mounts of ancient War Gods, teleported without warning, appearing directly in front of Xiao Yu, Nanting Snow, and Lin Zuoguang.
They brought with them an overwhelming, earth-shattering impact force, like a runaway train at full speed, crashing forward with world-destroying power.
"PFFT!"
Xiao Yu, Nanting Snow, and Lin Zuoguang had no time to react before they all simultaneously spat out a mouthful of blood.
The crimson blood sprayed through the air like the tragic blossoming of a blood-red flower, a shocking and gruesome sight.
Their bodies, like kites with their strings cut, were sent flying backward uncontrollably by the immense force of the impact.
At the same time, a heart-stopping series of CRACKLES and POPS echoed from within their bodies, as if countless dry twigs had been snapped in half at once.
Those were their bones, shattering one after another, unable to withstand the merciless, terrifying force of the collision.
The horrifying sound carried clearly across the surface of the sea, causing the scalps of the waiting Defense Team members to tingle and the hair on their bodies to stand on end.
"The difference in power is just too great! They’re worlds apart!"
A member of the Defense Team stared with wide, terrified eyes, his voice trembling as he muttered, "In a single clash, right after they appeared, they took down three powerhouses like Nanting Snow, Xiao Yu, and Lin Zuoguang..."
His words cut off, his eyes filled with despair and fear, as if he were witnessing the end of the world.
Just as he feared, the three of them plummeted into the sea like cannonballs, sending up a massive splash dozens of feet high.
However, they were fortunate. A mysterious and powerful force, the Supreme Divine Power, flowed within them.
This power, like a miraculous master of restoration, immediately began to repair the severe injuries they had sustained.
Before long, the three of them burst from the surface of the sea. Looking utterly battered, like lone wild geese that had fallen from the sky, they landed heavily on the deck of a Great Xia Empire ship.
They gasped for breath, their bodies trembling violently with every heave of their chests.
Their chests heaved violently, and their faces were masks of exhaustion, pain, and indignation.
"I suggest we retreat for now."
Lin Zuoguang suggested, his voice hoarse and trembling as he roughly wiped the blood trickling from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand.
By now, a deep-seated fear was visible in his eyes—
the instinctive dread of an unknown, superior power, and the helpless despair of their current predicament.
"Retreat? Retreat, my ass!"
Xiao Yu immediately shot back, his eyes burning with a fiery resolve as he conveyed his anger and determination to the others. "Our most important mission is to stall for time.
Once our teacher’s plan succeeds, it’ll be doomsday for those sanctimonious bastards from the Bright Holy See!"
He clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white, venting his unyielding fury through the gesture.
"That’s right. Our mission is to stall. We absolutely cannot back down!"
Nanting Snow added, her voice firm and resolute as she gritted her teeth.
Although her body still ached and every movement sent a piercing pain through her,
her eyes revealed an indomitable will, a declaration to the entire world that they would never bow to their enemies.
Facing these three enemies, so powerful they were nearly invincible, she was already prepared to make her last stand.
What awaited them might be a sea of flames or a brutal death, but they showed no hesitation,
no hint of retreat. They resolutely chose to hold their ground—for their beliefs, for their teacher, and for the future of the Great Xia Empire.
"But if we want to stall for time, we need to have the ability to do it!"
Lin Zuoguang was burning with anxiety, large beads of sweat rolling down his forehead like pearls from a broken string.
His voice was sharp and piercing with extreme agitation, as if it could cut through the air.
"We just fought them. You know as well as I do that we don’t even have a chance to face them head-on! We were seriously injured before we could even get close!"
At that moment, the inscrutable Supreme Divine Power within him was surging through his meridians like a monstrous tsunami, racing against time to mend his broken bones.
But he had no time to worry about his torn muscles or the wounds on his body, which were still oozing blood, staining his clothes in a gruesome, mottled pattern.
Lin Zuoguang gasped for air, his chest heaving violently, and continued, "If we keep this up, we’ll last a few more seconds at most. And then what? We still won’t be able to stop them! Only by surviving do we have a chance to turn the tables!"
His eyes, full of anxiety and helplessness, darted toward Xiao Yu and Nanting Snow,
desperate to find a hint of agreement, a shred of understanding in their gazes.
"You’re just a coward who’s afraid to die!"
Xiao Yu could no longer contain his fury. His eyes went wide, as if they would shoot flames, and he roared, his voice echoing over the sea and making one’s eardrums ache.
His face was flushed crimson with rage, like a burning fire.
"We’ve been trained for so long, and our teacher even bestowed upon us the precious Supreme Divine Power.
And now? You want to be a deserter because you can’t even handle a simple task like stalling? What kind of sense does that make?
How can we still have the face to call ourselves students of the National Road Academy?
What right do we have to call ourselves the students of Blue Star’s number one powerhouse?"
The more Xiao Yu spoke, the more agitated he became, his body trembling violently with rage as he clenched his fists, his knuckles white.
Ordinarily, Xiao Yu and Lin Zuoguang were as close as brothers,
but now,
facing the hopelessly powerful enemies from the Bright Holy See, the profound sense of powerlessness was driving Xiao Yu to the brink of collapse, his reason slipping away.
"I’ve never said anything about you being a coward before, but if you try to desert in the middle of a battle, I will never forgive you!"
Xiao Yu snarled through gritted teeth, his glare so intense it was as if he wanted to tear Lin Zuoguang limb from limb.
"Do you have to charge to your death, even when you know it’s a suicide mission?"
Lin Zuoguang’s eyes were red with anxiety as he retorted, "Can’t you be calm and rational for a second? What if something goes wrong with our teacher’s plan? People like us, who wield the Supreme Divine Power, are the last hope for the future of the Great Xia Empire.
If we all die here along with our teacher, the Great Xia Empire will truly be finished!"
Lin Zuoguang’s eyes held not only fear of the immediate danger but also a deep anxiety for the future.
"You’re right about one thing. We do have to charge ahead, even knowing it means death," Xiao Yu said, forcing the words out one by one through gritted teeth. His eyes blazed with a willingness to die.
Just then, something utterly bizarre happened.
Without any warning, sheets of sallow, yellowed paper began to drift down from the sky,
like a sudden, strange "snowfall" of paper.
The paper’s appearance was jarringly abrupt, as if it had been forcefully torn from another dimension.
Stranger still, each sheet of yellowed paper seemed to possess a soul of its own, trembling slightly and emitting a faint sound.
It was as if they were whispering unknown secrets,
a sound so faint it was barely there, seeming to come from the distant horizon,
or perhaps from the depths of the earth, sending a chill down one’s spine.
