Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Going All Out, Fighting Above Demigod Level!
At the same time, at the No. 46 Restricted Zone base.
Clea sat cross-legged on a stone platform, burning her source power to help Blind Prophet maintain the prophecy interference. This ensured that Logan’s Soul attacks wouldn’t be tracked back by The Observer No. 1.
From overexertion, Clea’s presence grew weaker. Golden blood poured from the corner of her mouth, dripping onto the gray stone platform and spreading dark-gold stains.
Just then, an old voice spoke.
Blind Prophet Cassandra had unknowingly opened his eyes.
After his fainting spell, his white hair at the front had grown even more. The cracks in his skin had spread to his neck, and with every move, golden blood droplets seeped out.
He didn’t explain why he had woken up. Instead, he burned his source power to keep the prophecy interference running.
As his strength dropped further, his hair turned completely white, and deep, knife-carved wrinkles formed on his forehead.
Clea stood nearby, pouring Life Rules power into Cassandra’s body, but it couldn’t fill the growing gap of consumption.
“Don’t burn it anymore!” Clea’s voice trembled as she gripped his shoulders tightly. “If you keep going… you won’t even have ash left!”
Blind Prophet shook his head. The prophecy rune on his fingertips still glowed, refusing to break its link with Logan.
He needed to predict Observer No. 3’s movements to buy Logan enough time to win the kill.
When he sensed Logan successfully absorbing Faceless’s soul source, Blind Prophet used up his very last drop of source power. He triggered a fate scan through prophecy rules to predict exactly when Observer No. 3 would arrive.
He saw silver-gray space chains tearing through the sky, heading straight for Black Abyss Canyon. His pupils instantly shrank.
“Observer No. 3 has arrived early,” Blind Prophet gasped, his voice faint and shaky. “There are only 12 hours left before the 72-hour deadline. You must finish your next kill as fast as possible.”
As soon as he spoke, his strength collapsed. He plummeted to the brink of death. The broken half of his staff of prophecy clattered to the ground.
Cling-clatter!
Blind Prophet’s body went limp and he slumped over. His consciousness once again sank into a deep sleep.
Clea caught him immediately. She reached a finger into his source power, her face turning deathly pale. “That madman! His source power is shattered completely. Without technology to remove the rules and repair it, he will never wake up.”
Gray Bone stepped forward. A wave of gray-white death energy brushed past Blind Prophet’s body from his sleeve. “His life signs are at the absolute limit. He could fade away at any moment.”
Both of them looked toward Black Abyss Canyon, their eyes filled with worry. Without Blind Prophet’s prophetic help, Logan now faced the combined might of seven Demigods and two super Demigods, plus the early arrival of Observer No. 3.
Logan stood at the edge of the mist zone. Just as he stabilized his Soul Rule, he received the final warning from Blind Prophet.
He looked up at the sky. Sure enough, he saw a faint silver-gray glow. Observer No. 3’s presence was drawing near.
Logan dashed toward the lava zone. His boots sank into the scorching black volcanic rock. The leather soles smoked from the heat, sticking to the ground before he finally ripped them free.
Wind whipped sparks against his face, stinging his eyes until they narrowed. The pebbles at his feet glowed red-hot from the heat; one step turned them into dust.
The geothermal heat of the lava zone amplified the effects of his Creation Rule. Logan remembered this terrain specifically from before; it was the perfect spot for a defensive counterattack.
The moment he found his footing, Maka was already there.
As one of the three Demigod vanguard leaders and the Controller of the Devouring Rule, Maka was stronger than Crystal Bone and Faceless. His massive body was formed entirely of a black vortex. The void black hole on his chest was huge, devouring rocks, air, and even light that passed by.
Logan froze, holding Staff of Creation. Emerald rule-light surged from the tip, forming a large spherical cage in front of him that perfectly blocked Maka’s devouring path.
“Life Cage!”
The emerald glow on the cage surface clashed with Maka’s devouring power, hissing as it was eaten away by the corrosion.
Seeing his path blocked, Maka roared in anger. His body swelled even larger, and the suction force of the black hole on his chest doubled.
He quickly noticed the golden Truth Mark on Logan’s left arm. He deliberately twisted the Devouring Rule to slam right into the mark, trying to trigger an explosion of the mark and speed up Logan’s assimilation.
The scar on Logan’s left arm burned as if it were on fire. He could clearly feel his source power being pulled out from a distance. His entire left arm went numb, and golden blood dripped from his fingertips.
He calculated that within half a minute, the Truth Mark would explode completely. If that happened, he would be directly controlled by The Observer No. 1.
Suddenly, a warm stream of emerald energy flowed through his soul contract.
Far away in No. 53 Restricted Zone, Violet sensed Logan’s crisis.
“Violet! Your horn is about to shatter!” Clea shouted over the comms.
“Shut up!” Violet bit her tongue, letting blood flow down the lines of her horn. “One last… transmission…”
Violet sent her source power again, this time the very last drop. Her reserves were now 100% drained.
The cracks on the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor had widened by more than half. She leaned against her Staff of Creation and slid slowly to the ground, blood gushing from her nose.
When Logan received that energy, the burning in his left arm subsided instantly. The activity of the Truth Mark was temporarily suppressed.
He lifted his eyes to look at the core of the black hole in Maka’s chest. His gaze sank deep like an abyss as he calculated the 0.5-second window.
At the same time, at the No. 46 Restricted Zone base.
Cassandra, who had been asleep, opened his eyes again. The prophecy mark on his brow burned with blinding light.
He tore through his deep sleep with brute force, squeezing out his very last drop of source power to perform a Fatesight.
Clea’s face went pale. She reached out to stop him. “Your source power is already 60% shattered! If you burn any more, your soul will be scattered to the wind!”
Cassandra ignored her. The golden rune on his fingertips burned so brightly that even his knuckles were charred black.
Countless golden prophecy runes burned before his eyes as he saw countless branches of the future.
In nine of them, Logan was swallowed by Maka’s black hole.
In only one branch, Logan managed to slip through the 0.5-second gap and strike Maka’s core.
“To the upper left, slightly angled, 300 meters out. A 0.5-second window,” Cassandra forced the information into Logan’s mind.
“In 3 seconds, that 0.5-second gap is the only true opening.”
As soon as the data was sent, Cassandra’s body went ice cold. His life signs became so weak they were nearly undetectable, and he sank back into a deep sleep.
Clea caught him, her fingers probing his broken source power. Her face was deathly pale. “Your source power is shattered beyond repair. You fool!”
Receiving Blind Prophet’s warning, Logan didn’t hesitate for a second. He gripped the Blade of Time in his left hand and drew the Bow of Destruction with his right.
His Creation and Destruction Rule merged in his palms, forming a two-meter-long double-edged blade. The left half glowed with emerald Creation Rule, while the right half was pitch-black with Destruction Rule. It was the [Dual Blades of Life and Death].
Stepping on the nodes of the Time Rule, wind howled past his ears and sparks stung his cheeks. Just within that 0.5-second window, he teleported to the slightly angled upper-left position relative to Maka.
That was Maka’s blind spot—the moment his old strength was gone but his new strength hadn’t formed yet.
“Dual Blades of Life and Death!”
The Creation and Destruction Rule exploded at the core of the black hole. The perfect balance perfectly countered Maka’s chaotic Devouring Rule.
Maka let out a roar of pain. The black hole on his chest instantly shattered, exposing the black devoured source power to the air, which radiated a powerful Rule fluctuation.
Logan activated the Devouring Rule, sucking Maka’s entire source power into his body.
His six-spiral DNA, which had been unstable due to rejection reactions, instantly snapped together upon absorbing the same-source Devouring Rule source power. The six gene chains locked into place, becoming completely stable.
The cracks in his DNA repaired slightly. Although still in a dangerous zone, he was temporarily removed from the risk of immediate collapse.
Logan spat a mouthful of golden blood, wiped his lips, and found his presence still hovering right at the super Demigod threshold, much more stable than before.
At the same time, at the Ruin Temple in No. 53 Restricted Zone.
After transmitting her last drop of source power, Violet leaned on the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor and barely managed to stand up.
She looked down at the horn in her hand. The cracks had spread over more than half of it. The once-bright golden totem patterns were now so dim they were almost invisible. Even a slight squeeze made her feel the horn shaking in her grip.
Clea’s remote communication crackled through, her voice heavy with concern. “The three Demigod-stage vanguard teams sent by Observer No. 3 will likely reach the outer defenses within a few hours. You need to be ready.”
Violet nodded, her expression blank. “Don’t worry.”
The Sky-Shattering Chieftain stepped forward, his voice deep. “Should we activate the backup defense on the west side?”
“No need.” Violet commanded coldly, ordering the Sky-Shattering Chieftain, the Flesh Temple Lord, and the Shadow Chairman standing outside the hall to immediately reinforce the temple’s defenses with their troops.
Especially the passage leading to Black Abyss Canyon. Three layers of early-warning traps must be set up. The Ancient Tribunal’s vanguard might arrive at any moment.
After receiving the order, the three men immediately went to deploy the troops.
Violet stood at the temple entrance, looking up toward Black Abyss Canyon.
Through her soul contract, she felt Logan successfully absorbing Maka’s presence fluctuation. Her tense lips curled up for just a split second before she coughed up a mouthful of pale golden blood.
Her state was fluctuating wildly. Sometimes she could touch the peak she had reached before; other times, she dropped to a much lower stage, making it hard just to stand.
Yet, she gripped her Staff of Creation and Bow of Destruction tight, her eyes set in determination.
“I promised Master I would hold the No. 53 Restricted Zone, and I will. Even if I lose all my cultivation in 22 days, it doesn’t matter.”
At the same time,
Logan stood at the edge of the lava zone. All three Demigod vanguards had fallen.
The cracks in the Seamless Space Lock had widened significantly. He could now manipulate the Space Rule, though only on a small scale.
But then, the furious roar of the Origin Devourer echoed out: “Logan! You killed my subordinates! I will make you die!”
