Chapter 307: Chapter 307: Aiden’s Surprise
People are complex. We can show the light of humanity in some ways, yet use innocent children to boost our Soul strength, or even sell our own kind to the Abyss.
Aiden never really wanted to be a “good guy.”
But now, seeing Demons slaughter humans, watching innocent children die in unimaginable pain, witnessing desperate human slaves break down completely—even to the point where they can’t even commit suicide… and watching warrior after warrior sacrifice themselves voluntarily… Aiden’s emotions have surged and crashed, again and again.
In the past, he could barely hold them back. But this time, the emotions he had buried deep inside finally exploded.
It wasn’t because he was kind or possessed some high moral standard. It was simply because he is human. Especially because he is a normal person, he couldn’t just turn a blind eye and stay cold.
Facing the crisis on Earth, if he wanted to abandon everything, his current strength and resources would allow him to flee to some unknown corner of the Abyss and live in safety.
The rest of the world? He wouldn’t care. He would just need to survive.
But what would be the point of that?
“Everything I’ve done, whether boosting my power or gathering materials, was all to be free to do whatever I want in the future!” Aiden shouted in his mind.
“Yes, I want to kill everyone who tries to kill me. I want to make brainless fools get out of my way. I want to be the strongest… But now? I want to kill that giant centipede at any cost!”
“Even if… this is just some so-called trial!” Aiden stared fiercely at the giant centipede in the sky with his one remaining eye.
He had no mana left in his body now, but he could use his skill, Mana Spring, to restore it.
It only costs 10% of his health to instantly recover 20% of his mana!
Even though his health was critically low, Aiden decided to keep fighting!
There was no way he would admit defeat!
Buzz!
Broken, rusted weapons began to vibrate constantly, producing a deafening buzz.
Suddenly, faint red energy appeared on the bodies of all the fallen human warriors and Abyss creatures across the battlefield. It swirled quickly, gathering together to form a blood-red energy sphere that looked exactly like an eyeball.
The moment this sphere appeared, a terrifying killing intent erupted from it, causing the temperature around them to plummet.
Then, a massive crack tore open within the energy ball, splitting apart at an incredible speed.
Immediately, faces of human warriors crowded into that crack!
Their eyes were also blood-red, staring fiercely at Aiden as he fell from the sky.
Aiden’s body suddenly froze in mid-air. Everything around him seemed to stop.
The blood-red sphere instantly flashed above Aiden’s body. Threads of red energy began to cling to his damaged form.
The parts of his body that had been mostly corroded by the giant centipede’s venom instantly healed, making him whole again.
However, Aiden now looked terrifyingly monstrous. Half of his body was normal flesh, while the other half was pure red energy, like a monster resurrected from hell.
“Kill!” A low, guttural roar burst from Aiden’s throat.
His clarity and reason in his eyes were fading fast, replaced by a wild, unbridled hunger for slaughter.
Crack-crack-crack!
Aiden slowly twisted his neck, his bones crunching loudly. Yet, there was no pain on his face.
Boom!
As Aiden raised his staff again, the space around him began to shake.
The once-golden Divine Golden Sunflame changed its appearance. It now surged forward toward the giant centipede in the sky, mixed with blinding red light.
Meanwhile, Graham and Cassian, who were watching the trial, wore completely different expressions on their faces.
Graham’s eyes were filled with excitement, but his hands were clenched tight. He watched Aiden’s every move with intense nervousness.
“There’s hope! Aiden really has a chance to pass the Trial of the Deadliest Kill Intent! Keep going!” Graham couldn’t help but whisper, his voice tight with excitement.
Cassian, meanwhile, kept shaking his head violently, his eyes wide with sheer disbelief and shock.
“Why? How is this possible? Aiden was barely on the verge of failure just moments ago!”
“That ball of red energy… that must be the Kill Intent of the Deadliest Kill Intent, made manifest!”
“If Aiden can withstand such terrifying Kill Intent and take down the giant centipede, does that mean he’ll actually pass the trial?”
“This is impossible! No, absolutely not! I can’t let Aiden pass. I was planning to teach him a lesson properly!” Cassian’s thoughts churned furiously.
He never imagined Aiden would get this far. If it were him, he would have failed long ago.
After all, he was the disciple of The Flame God Ignis, the strongest Forgemaster on Earth! How could he possibly lose to Aiden?
Cassian first peeked cautiously at Graham. Noticing that Graham wasn’t looking his way, he finally exhaled in relief.
His eyes darted back and forth as he desperately tried to formulate a plan to interfere with Aiden.
But then, his eyes widened in horror as he watched the golden-red flames envelop the giant centipede. When the fire touched the creature’s black carapace, the hard scales began to melt slowly, dissolving into nothingness. Cassian blinked rapidly, instinctively reaching up to rub his eyes hard.
“What kind of fire is this? How could it possibly hold such scorching temperatures?” he blurted out, his voice trembling with shock.
As the disciple of Earth’s supreme Forgemaster, The Flame God Ignis, Cassian’s knowledge of fire far surpassed that of any other genius.
Yet even he was completely baffled, unable to identify the nature of the flames Aiden had unleashed.
“Fire like that… it’s the dream of countless Forgemasters!”
“What other shocking secrets is this guy hiding?” Cassian gritted his teeth, his resolve to sabotage the trial hardening into a cold, desperate intent.
Just then, however, Graham suddenly turned his head and locked eyes with him.
Cassian’s face instantly contorted into a stiff, forced smile.
Graham spoke with a flat expression, “You can choose not to help. But if I catch you trying to do anything bad, you know exactly what will happen. I’ll shove your head right up your own ass. Don’t think being Ignis’s student makes you an exception.”
Cassian instinctively stepped back, glaring at Graham with pure fear.
Don’t let his calm demeanor fool you; like his teacher Kenneth, Graham was a powerful crazy person.
Cassian took a deep breath, forced a awkward smile, and opened his mouth to speak—but then, the commotion inside the trial caught his attention.
Aiden looked like a killing machine. He constantly used large-scale skills to distract the giant centipede while precisely releasing powerful single-target attacks to exploit the wounds caused by the Divine Golden Sunflame.
But even so, the giant centipede’s health barely dropped.
As the battle intensified, Aiden’s wounds multiplied.
Although his injuries healed quickly, they were being replaced by red energy.
Now, most of Aiden’s body had turned completely red.
Just then, his left eye suddenly lit up, as if he had discovered something amazing.
Next, Aiden seemed to fall into a state of weakness. He started getting hit more and more frequently.
“Sigh, it still isn’t working,” Graham sighed, the hope in his eyes slowly fading. “If this continues, the terrifying killing intent will completely take over Aiden.”
Aiden’s performance was already shocking enough, but it wasn’t quite enough to pass the trial of the Strongest Killing Intent’s Fallen Soldiers.
Then again, it was normal. People like Bella, the Flame God Ignis, or his teacher Kenneth were simply too rare.
As time ticked by, only half of Aiden’s head remained his original self. The rest of his body had turned into a red, ghost-like monster, looking incredibly terrifying.
After a long, fierce battle, the giant centipede’s health had finally dropped to 50%.
Seeing this, Graham sighed helplessly and slowly said, “There is no hope left.”
Cassian, on the other hand, let out a huge sigh of relief. A smug grin returned to his face as he casually said:
“See?” Cassian sneered. “I told you Lady Bella must have misjudged. Aiden is so ungrateful; how could he possibly…”
He didn’t finish his sentence. Graham shot him an impatient look and said coldly,
“Even if Aiden fails now, his performance is still better than yours was back then.”
“So what?” Cassian scoffed, smiling. “Failing the Strongest Killing Intent’s Fallen Soldiers trial means his soul takes damage. His soul strength drops, and he’ll have to spend ages recovering.”
No sooner had he spoken than Graham suddenly shouted, “Wait… something’s wrong! Aiden’s state is strange!”
Everyone immediately turned to watch the trial. Aiden seemed to be giving up. He floated motionless in mid-air, staring blankly as the giant centipede slowly healed its wounds, doing nothing to stop it.
“Hahahaha! Giving up now? That’s way too late!” Cassian burst out laughing.
But Graham frowned, staring intently at Aiden’s remaining left eye.
“No… why does Aiden look so strange?” he muttered.
“The killing intent in his eyes is still there, but the red energy on his body… it seems to be fading?”
“Is it possible?” Graham’s eyes widened in shock. “Is he using the invading killing intent to comprehend the Laws of Slaughter?”
He froze, utterly stunned by the thought.
Just then, Aiden suddenly moved again.
