Necromancer Of The Shadows - Chapter 1362: The Beginning Of The War (Part 4)

Chapter 1362: The Beginning Of The War (Part 4)
From high in the sky, standing in the void space, Evan and the others watched as the high-ranking members of the dragons examined Bura’s body and carefully inspected his tent.
Turoon, a peak Rank Five dragon and the strongest one present in the camp, meticulously searched through Bura’s tent and it did not take him long to find clues that pointed toward the culprit.
Naturally, since they were at war with the demons, the dragons’ first thought was that it had to be the demons who assassinated Bura. And when Turoon discovered a few drops of blood belonging to a high-ranking demon in Bura’s tent, his suspicion toward them grew even stronger.
Not only that, he even sensed the faint aura of a powerful demon lingering inside the tent.
The aura was extremely faint, so faint that, under normal circumstances, it would have been impossible to detect. But because Turoon stood at the very peak of Rank Five, just a single step away from advancing to Rank Six, he was able to perceive it.
Of course, the aura he sensed was not from a true demon. It was Evan’s aura, deliberately left behind inside the tent.
Although Evan was not a demon himself, the aura that naturally surrounded him bore great similarity to that of both elves and demons. Before vanishing from Bura’s tent, he had intentionally left a few traces of his aura behind.
After Turoon shared his discovery with the other three Rank Five dragons present in the camp, all of them burned with rage.
“Those demon bastards!” Colin, the only beginner-level Rank Five fire dragon, snarled, his eyes blazing with fury. “We clearly reached an agreement with them that no one would initiate any large-scale conflict for the next two months while the peace talks are ongoing between the higher-ups… Do they think we are pushovers?”
The two mid-level Rank Five dragons said nothing, but their grim expressions made it clear they were just as enraged.
Losing a Rank Five individual was no small matter. Even though dragons were among the top races of Utopia, they could not easily afford the loss of someone of that caliber.
“What should we do?” Samuel, one of the mid-level Rank Five dragons asked Turoon. “We can’t just sit back and do nothing. Not only have those demons gone too far by killing Bura, but most of the people in the camp also witnessed the earlier commotion and know something happened. If we let this matter slide, the morale of the camp will plummet.”
Turoon remained silent for a moment before taking out a communication crystal from his storage ring.
“Let me contact Elder Valdimor.”
He walked to the side of the tent and activated the crystal, speaking to someone in private.
Evan and the others continued to watch everything with keen interest.
“Do you think it will work?” Ashley asked, her gaze fixed on Turoon.
“Assassination of a Rank Five individual is no small matter,” Evan replied in a low voice. “A Rank Five is strong enough to create a country of their own and rule over it without much resistance. Now that this hot-tempered, overly prideful bunch has lost one of their own and even has evidence pointing to the demons, do you really think they’ll sit quietly and do nothing?”
Ashley pondered Evan’s words and nodded in agreement. She herself was a Rank Five Core Evolver and one of the pillars of the Dryad race.
Although she was far stronger than Bura, it did not change the fact that he had also been a Rank Five individual and an important figure among the dragons. Losing him in such a way was bound to enrage them, and there was no way they would let the matter go.
As Evan and the others conversed, they saw Turoon finish his communication and return to the other Rank Five dragons. Though they couldn’t hear what was being said, the cold expressions on their faces and the furious flames burning in their eyes left no doubt that the orders they had received did not involve peaceful talks with the demons.
Just as Evan and the others had expected, Turoon ordered all the dragons in the camp to prepare for war.
The entire camp instantly became active as individuals rushed about making preparations.
The army was assembled in an orderly manner, and once the other dragons learned that Bura had been assassinated by the demons, the prideful race collectively burned with rage.
Such large-scale movements naturally couldn’t escape the notice of the demon scouts who had been monitoring the dragons’ camp.
When they saw the dragons assembling a vast army as if preparing for a full-scale war, their expressions changed drastically, and they immediately relayed the information to their higher-ups.
When the leaders of the demons received the news that the dragons were gathering a massive army, they were baffled and immediately ordered their people to investigate what had happened.
At the same time, they began mobilizing their own forces in case the dragons launched an attack.
Hours passed, and eventually the demons received reports that one of the Rank Five dragons had been assassinated and that the culprit seemed to be a demon.
Although the details remained unclear, as the dragons had kept much under wraps, the revelation still shocked the higher level demons as none of them had issued such an order, and the thought of one of their own acting independently in such a reckless way stunned them further.
When the demon higher-ups questioned those with the ability to infiltrate the dragons’ camp and assassinate a Rank Five dragon, every single one of them denied taking action, which confused them further.
The demons even attempted to reach out to the dragons, insisting it was not their doing, but their words fell on deaf ears. Especially since Turoon had sensed a lingering aura inside the tent—a powerful aura unmistakably belonging to a demon.
From the sky, Evan and the others watched as the massive dragon army marched out of the camp, heading toward the battlefield and their lips arched upward in a smile.
A great war between dragons and demons was about to erupt.
