Rael Sutekh

Current Rank: Diamond 1
It wasn’t hard at all. If anything, this match here was much easier than the first. And from the looks of things, he was one match away from ranking up.
Though Rael didn’t really feel like playing anymore. Sure, it was fun for a bit, but it seemed like a waste of time, especially since he couldn’t find anyone to fight that would give him a challenge.
So what else was left for him? Nothing.
Rael sat in the waiting room for a few seconds, then decided to leave. All it took was a single thought, and soon enough, Rael was wide awake. He pushed the virtual reality pod open and then noticed that Melissa and Altros were already standing there, chatting with each other.
When they spotted that Rael had exited his virtual reality pod, they sighed.
Melissa stepped up and said:
“My bad. I didn’t expect you to have so little competition. I remember that even in the lower ranks, I got hit at least once or twice. You, on the other hand…”
Rael shrugged. “It’s fine. I’m just a little stronger than everyone else, so it’s hard for anyone to have a fair chance against me.”
Obviously, he didn’t care about sounding arrogant, since that was the truth. Though on one end, Rael was sure that his kids would enjoy something like this in the future.
Until then though, he fixed his clothes and checked the group chat. His wives were still asleep somehow, and while that was the case, he didn’t really feel like hanging around here any longer. If anything, he wanted to get his ass out of here.
Yet the moment he made his way down to the ground floor, he was surprised to see tens of people gathered around, as well as a giant camera crew. He was a little confused about what that was for, but attributed it to either Melissa’s appearance or some celebrity’s.
Though, he seemed to be deadly wrong, as the cameras were all on Rael. The paparazzi took pictures and ran up to him, suddenly bombarding him with all sorts of questions.
“Are you the player Rael Sutekh? What are the two abilities you chose?”
“Hey, what’s your guide to winning so many fights in a row? Have you had any professional practice or army experience?”
“How many girlfriends are you willing to date at once?”
Ignoring the last part, Rael focused on the other questions. After only a few seconds though, Rael no longer had any intention of answering the questions, since they bored him so much.
Coincidentally, that was where Altros stepped in, his step brimming with confidence.
“Heya. Well, as much as he probably wants to answer your questions, he has to go and finish his business. Now, if you lousy reporters could politely fuck off, that’d be great. Thank you for your understanding~”
With that, Altros grabbed Rael and carefully led him out of the arena. Melissa obviously followed suit, and there was also one more thing that interested both Rael and Altros. That, of course, was Melissa’s true role.
Earlier, the guards treated her like she was the president. Even now, despite Rael being the center of attention, some pictures were taken of her. In short, Rael was sure that her minimum-wage-earning persona was just some bullshit she conjured up to get Altros off her ass.
Whether that was the truth though, he had his doubts.
Anyhow, after just a few minutes of walking, they managed to leave the arena and then make it all the way to a café not too far away. The three of them sat down, and after ordering some lattes, they just sat there in silence.
That was until Rael finally spoke up, breaking the slightly uncomfortable silence.
“So, what do you do, exactly? Ms. minimum-wage worker.”
Melissa leaned back slightly. “Does it really matter? I’m just with the search and exploration division. I scout out areas and take back biological samples of species that we’ve yet to see.”
“So medicine, then?” Rael mused. “Or do you guys just like fiddling around with shit you don’t understand?”
Even Altros chimed in. “She walks around smelling like a dead rat, so it’s definitely medicine.”
Melissa’s brow twitched at both of their comments. Still, she didn’t lash out at them. Instead, she went ahead and decided to sate their curiosity.
“I’m the manager of this division. The government gave me free will to do anything. I get a big salary and invest it into my future. In addition, I’m exempt from all taxes, and if that wasn’t enough, I have permission to kill anyone I deem fit.”
Oof.
Well, that wasn’t a very small responsibility. If anything, Rael felt like this girl had just become 10 times more important in the span of a few seconds.
But then again…
“Rich? Don’t you live in a hotel filled with poor people and crying children? When’s the last time you had a good night’s sleep, Miss Minimum Wage?”
“That’s none of your business. Plus, even if you have to pay taxes, it’s not like you don’t write most of them off because of some bullshit loophole you found,” Melissa replied.
Altros shrugged. “Not my fault I’m effortlessly rich.”
Yeah, when Rael was around, it seemed like the conversation always spiraled into money. But then again, it’s fine. He could sit here in the middle knowing full well he could most likely buy this entire galaxy several times over and not even feel a dent in his balance.
Humming to himself, Rael chatted for a few moments, enjoying the peacefulness as he drank the latte that had arrived not too long ago.
Everything seemed to be doing well, and honestly… looking at Altros and Melissa… it was something he had wanted as well, so in a way, this was very therapeutic.
But alas, he wasn’t actually Rael or Altros, or the Supreme Beast, or whatever. He was just someone who had no name but took the name of someone else.
Maybe…
Maybe I should spend some time and figure out who I am? Yeah… that’s definitely what I’ll do.
Rael finally set down his latte, a determined look on his face.
Yet right as he opened his mouth…
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
He was met with a pretty annoying inconvenience.
