Chapter 2143: Distortion

A chill ran down my spine when I heard this, but it wasn’t as if there was anything that I could do to stop War.

All I could do was bring out the different relics that I possessed and tried to form a barrier around us.

I knew that this barrier wouldn’t really be able to do anything to help us, but it was the only thing that could be done.

While I was doing this, I could feel the pressure that was coming from behind us.

This was the pressure that came from someone more powerful than you gathering their power to attack. This was the kind of pressure that really made it hard for you to do anything against.

But there was something that was pushing me on.

“We have to stall for as long as possible to allow as many people as possible to evacuate from the city.”

The only thought that was on my mind was hoping that the people that I loved were alright and that pushed me to keep going.

“Ugh.”

The moment that the first attack hit, I knew what War was doing.

This attack obviously didn’t have the full power that War was capable of. Instead of using its full power, it used just enough that it would cause me pressure, but it wasn’t enough to break through my defenses.

“It’s playing with me…” I muttered through gritted teeth.

Though there was a part of me that felt angry and aggrieved because of this, it wasn’t as if there was anything that I could do in response. I had already tried to break through War’s defenses and it had resulted in it breaking out this second form.

So the only thing that I could do was run as much as possible to stall it.

It didn’t seem like War was losing interest in me with the way that it kept firing attacks from behind that didn’t break through the barrier that I had set up. It seemed like at this rate, I would be able to stall it for some time.

Or that would have been the case if War didn’t suddenly stop.

It wasn’t hard to tell that War had stopped since the attacks had stopped coming and even the aura coming from behind me stopped moving. Once it stopped like this, I could easily tell that War was no longer following me and I went back to see what was happening.

After all, it would be disastrous if War suddenly set their sights on the capital.

But that was what it seemed like with how War turned in that direction.

“Stop!” I shouted to get War’s attention, but it didn’t seem like I was able to do so.

With the way that War looked at the capital, it was as if there was something that went beyond just getting its attention. The way that War looked in that direction was as if there was something that might have even posed a threat to War.

Which was why it seemed like War was planning on going there to take care of it.

However, I just couldn’t let War do something like that.

“We’re going to distract him.” I said through gritted teeth.

This was for Joan as well since I didn’t have the same mental connection with her, but right now we all had to do what we could do to stop War.

I didn’t know how the evacuation was going in the capital, but it didn’t feel like it had been enough time.

Which was why we had to buy more time.

“Come at me!”

I shouted before releasing every single attack that I had at War.

It was the same for Joan and Lupus.

All of us were doing all that we could to distract War from the capital.

This time, it seemed like War reacted to our provocation as it turned to look at me.

However, it didn’t seem like War was planning on stalling for time like I wanted it to.

This time, it seemed like War had finally had enough as there was something else that it wanted to do.

After all, this time War raised its lance properly and looked like it was about to charge us.

“Is this how it ends?” A part of me couldn’t help thinking this, but it wasn’t as if there was anything that I could change about this. The only thing that I could do now was risk my life for my wife and children.

Taking a deep breath, I said to Joan, “You can still leave if you want.”

But Joan didn’t seem like she heard me at all.

It wasn’t that she couldn’t hear me, it was that she was completely ignoring me.

A smile appeared on my face seeing this, but I knew that there was nothing that needed to be said.

So all three of us gathered all of our power and charged right at War.

But the moment that we clashed, there was this strange feeling that came over us.

At the same time, there was this strange distortion that appeared where our energies clashed. It seemed like there was something that was happening to the space that was there with how it was warped.

“Sh*t.”

I was completely caught off guard by this since I never thought that War would suddenly curse like this.

Then I was even more caught off guard when War suddenly drew back the lance as if it was trying to pull away.

I didn’t know why War was doing this or why it was scared of this distortion, but I knew that it had to be something bad if War was acting this way. I started using even more energy, gathering everything that I could.

If this was bad for War, then it should be good for us.

Even if it wasn’t good, at least it would be a mutual end.

Or that was what I thought before I felt something pulling me in.
