Wasteland: I Awakened A Plant System - Chapter 116: Ember Meteor And Tidal Guard

Chapter 116: Ember Meteor And Tidal Guard
Seeing how easily the fourth wave had been cleared, the defenders on the wall had almost no reaction left.
From the very beginning of the Zombie Wave, Vikram’s Plant Team had been handling everything with shocking ease.
At this point, they were simply curious, they wanted to see how Vikram would deal with the final and most dangerous threat of Saturday: the Wall Breaker.
Vikram had already planned exactly how to handle it. He would first let the Wall Breaker waste all its rockets, then have his Plant Team finish it off. Until then, he knew a massive number of normal and Elite Zombies would keep pouring in.
As 9:00 pm arrived, the portals stabilized once more. Zombies began flooding out from multiple rifts.
It was the same composition as the previous day’s final wave: 2000 normal zombies, 500 mixed Elite Zombies, along with four Apex Hulkings, one Plague Bringer, one Colossus, and one Shadow Lurker, and finally the Leader Walk Breaker.
Vikram quickly gave new orders.
“Light Mage and Water Mage, you two also join the battle. Light Mage, focus on the Shadow Lurker. Water Mage, your job is to deal with the Wall Breaker’s rockets.”
Both sprouts nodded and immediately jumped down from the wall along with the others. Only the two Archer Sprouts remained on the wall for long-range support.
The Guardian Druid, Warrior Druid, and Fire Mage Sprout stood together. The Fire Mage Sprout nodded at them.
Even though the Warrior and Guardian Druids had grown much stronger, in the eyes of the other sprouts and their, the Fire Mage was still the most dangerous one. They had all seen how he had toyed with and effortlessly destroyed the Kobolds in the Kobold dungeon.
With the Light Mage heading toward the Shadow Lurker and the Water Mage moving toward the Wall Breaker, the Fire Mage Sprout turned its attention to the incoming sea of normal and Elite Zombies.
It slowly raised its tiny hand toward the sky.
“What is he doing?” Pooja asked curiously. She could only produce fire from her hands, so she had no idea why the small sprout was pointing upward.
Her question was answered in the next moment.
A concentrated flaming projectile began forming high in the sky. It grew rapidly before crashing down onto the battlefield like a meteor.
“BOOM!”
A massive explosion erupted, engulfing a huge portion of the horde. When the flames and smoke cleared, almost all the normal zombies had vanished, and only a handful of Elite Zombies remained standing.
“Wow… that’s such a cool move!” Vikrant shouted in amazement. “Pooja sis, why don’t you use something like this every time?”
Pooja shot him a dangerous glare. Vikrant instantly felt a chill and forced a fake laugh, though he continued complaining in his mind, “You’re just a bully who only picks on us, but can’t kill the zombies that easily.”
“Don’t mind his words, Pooja,” Isha said calmly, soothing her. “You’re not at fault. You can only ignite fire from your hands. You can’t call it down from the sky like his Fire Mage Sprout.”
The others were equally stunned. They had always struggled with waves of normal and Elite Zombies constantly pushing toward the gate, forcing them to waste massive amounts of ammunition and energy.
Just yesterday, many of them had been pushed to the brink of death because Arjun and James were occupied with the elites.
But now? One single fire meteor attack had wiped out nearly the entire horde of normal zombies, leaving only a few elites that were quickly finished off by the Guardian and Warrior Druids.
The Zombie Leader, the Wall Breaker, watched in pure rage as all the normal and Elite Zombies were slaughtered with ridiculous ease. Its rotten face twisted with fury.
It let out a thunderous roar, “Kraa Krrrah! Krrraaaahh!” and raised its fused RPG launcher, locking its aim directly onto the Fire Mage Sprout, Guardian Druid, and Warrior Druid.
The rocket fired with a deafening “whoosh”.
But just as the rocket streaked toward them, the Water Mage Sprout acted instantly. It raised both hands and created a spinning, glowing, a rotating water shield that enveloped the three sprouts in a protective dome. It has used Tidal Guard moves.
“BOOM!*l”
The rocket slammed into the water barrier with full force. The explosion was massive, sending shockwaves across the battlefield… yet the water shield didn’t even crack. The blast and shrapnel were completely neutralized, dissipating harmlessly against the swirling liquid wall. Not a single sprout received any damage.
Once again, the entire wall fell into stunned silence.
“What just happened…?” Even Isha looked visibly shocked this time. She knew Vikram’s Plant Team was strong, but she had never imagined they could stand still and completely nullify the Wall Breaker’s rocket explosion without dodging or taking any damage.
For the defenders, today had become the most magical, and unbelievable day of their lives. They had finally understood the truth: Vikram was a one-man army. He wasn’t even fighting himself. He was simply standing on the wall, calmly watching, while his Plant Team handled everything with overwhelming dominance.
Before today, they had only heard tales of geniuses and monsters. Now, after witnessing Vikram’s power, those old stories felt weak and insignificant.
Meanwhile, Carol was silently recording everything on her device, making detailed mental notes of every ability, every coordination, and every impressive moment.
She had already made up her mind, even if her relationship with Isha became sour, Vikram had to be recruited into their team. Her captain needed to take him. After all, they were blood relatives, no matter how strained things were.
—
Back on the battlefield, the four remaining Apex Zombies and the Wall Breaker now focused entirely on the five Plant Sprouts.
Their attention was especially sharp on the Water Mage Sprout, the one who had effortlessly diffused their boss’s rocket.
The Wall Breaker roared in fury, “Kraaa! Kraaahhh! Kraah!” and barked orders at its subordinates.
Immediately, the Hulking, Colossus, and Plague Bringer charged forward, targeting the Fire Mage Sprout, Guardian Druid, and Warrior Druid.
Meanwhile, the Light Mage Sprout had already positioned itself directly in front of the Shadow Lurker, its small body glowing with soft golden light, ready for the confrontation.
—
The battlefield shifted the moment the Apex Zombies moved.
The Hulking roared and charged first, its massive body cracking the ground with every step. It raised its fists to crush everything in front of it and swung at the Guardian Druid.
“GAGAA!”
“BOOOOOOM!!*
The punch landed with a violent shockwave. Dust exploded outward. When it cleared, the Guardian Druid hadn’t moved even an inch. The ground behind it was shattered, but it stood completely firm.
“THUD!!”
The Guardian Druid slammed its shield upward into the Hulking’s jaw, lifting the giant slightly off the ground. At the same time, thick vines erupted from the earth, wrapping around its legs and locking it in place.
“GAGAGA!!”
The Hulking roared in rage and tried to break free, but it was now trapped.
On the other side, the Colossus charged the Warrior Druid. Its fist came down like a falling mountain.
“BOOOOOOM!!”
The Warrior Druid dodged to the side with unnatural speed and countered instantly.
“SHHHHK!!!”
Its blade struck the same spot on the Colossus’s arm repeatedly. Sparks flew. Cracks formed. The Colossus tried to grab it, but it was too slow.
“SHHHHHK!!!”
The arm was half-severed. The Colossus staggered.
Behind them, the Plague Bringer swelled and released a wave of toxic mist.
“FSSSSSS—!!!”
But a wall of fire erupted. The Fire Mage Sprout stepped forward, burning the poisonous gas away instantly. Every time the Plague Bringer tried to release more mist, it was met with blazing fire blasts that suppressed and burned it faster.
“SKRRRAAAHHH!!!”
The Plague Bringer shrieked helplessly.
Then the Shadow Lurker moved. It flickered and vanished, reappearing behind the Light Mage Sprout.
“SHHHK—!”
But before the strike could land—
“FLASH!!”
A brilliant light exploded outward. The Light Mage Sprout didn’t even turn around. The radiant pulse forced the Shadow Lurker back into visibility, its body distorting. Another burst of light followed, stronger than the first. The shadows around it disintegrated completely. The hunter had become the hunted.
On the wall, no one spoke. Not even Carol. What they were witnessing felt impossible, each Plant Sprout was handling an Apex-level threat individually, perfectly, and without any panic.
Back on the battlefield, the Hulking tore through some vines and swung both fists down again.
“BOOOOOOM!!”
The Guardian Druid blocked, but this time it was pushed back slightly. Cracks formed under its feet.
Then from the ground, thicker and stronger vines surged upward, binding the Hulking’s arms and locking them tight.
“GAGAAAA!!”
The Guardian Druid stepped forward and slammed its shield into the Hulking’s chest with full force.
“BOOOOM!!”
The giant staggered backward.
At the same moment, the Warrior Druid dashed in from behind. Two arrows from the Archer Sprouts flew in perfect sync, piercing the Hulking’s eyes and blinding it.
“ROOOOOOOAAARRR!!!”
The Hulking screamed in rage and pain.
“Now,” Vikram said calmly from the wall.
“WAWA!!”
The Warrior Druid leaped forward, spun mid-air, and delivered a full-power strike to the weakened neck.
“SHHHHHHHK!!!”
The blade cut clean through. The Hulking’s head fell. Its massive body collapsed with a heavy ’THUD’.
One Apex — down. And the others were next.
