One-Eyed Monster
Chapter 1431 - 1428: Gaoju Clan Members (Part 2)
Igor carefully observed these people, thinking they resembled Exchange Beasts more, with blank faces and staggering steps due to desperation. They continued to approach, surrounded by those Exchange Beasts, looking as if they'd never give up, completely different from the previous Mantai People.
Even driven by these Exchange Beasts, they showed no sign of fear or abandonment.
They huddled together but didn't rely entirely on each other, seeming to wait for an order.
"Not missing a single one, six people in total!" Amoon stated, his Exchange Beast already encircling them, clearly controlling the scene.
The initiative was in Amoon and his team's hands, and they weren't in a rush, knowing these matters could not be hurried.
Amoon and his team knew their opponents would be more anxious, and indeed, the elder among the six whistled, prompting the group to break in one direction, gambling everything without hesitation.
This direction led to where Douglas placed these people's weapons. The weapons on the ground glittered, seemingly waiting for their owners to caress them.
"Their momentum is strong, yet even if you six combined forces, you wouldn't break this barrier, for this Exchange Beast is fiercer than a real dog."
As Amoon finished speaking, the Exchange Beast swiftly controlled the scene again. Those marked with Dual Fish on their heads stopped resisting, still showing no expression.
Igor realized then what these people lacked; they lacked vitality, emotion, expression, akin to wooden figures.
"Now let's ask who they really are; are they Gaoju..."
Before Amoon could finish, the six raised their right hand, simultaneously chopping at each other's temples with astounding speed.
This scene seemed rehearsed, each swiftly striking another's temple, mutually restraining, harming, and binding together without hesitation or delay.
Their suicide manner was peculiar and sudden, leaving Igor and his companions at a loss.
"This... Did they just commit suicide?" Igor couldn't believe his eyes.
The group attacked each other without hesitation, their bodies collapsing like soft mud, forming a circle, their palms still resting under their temples, resembling a snake biting its tail...
"We didn't get to ask anything..." Amoon murmured with slight regret.
"Why did they choose to die?" Igor was puzzled as to why vibrant lives were abandoned in such a manner, pondering if living wasn't preferable.
"They didn't seem intent on prolonged battle, attacking and fleeing without doubt," Douglas mused, finding such incidents somewhat interesting.
"Even their resistance was aimed at a final strike!" Amoon commented.
"Final strike?" Igor was confused.
"They gambled on seizing the items, hoping to fight back and eventually escape..." Douglas gestured at the artifacts on the ground.
"Yet ultimately, they still committed suicide!" Igor returned to the matter itself.
"Indeed, they were bound, receiving a death command—either succeed or die honorably."
"So cruel." Igor couldn't help remarking, finding it unbelievable how life could be so easily discarded, deeming it too cheap.
"Some view certain things as more important than life itself, willing to forsake everything for them." Amoon sighed, recalling his Exchange Beast as it was now unnecessary.
They originally came to examine Brass's corpse for clues to continue their investigation, yet unexpectedly, these sudden attackers vanished silently.
Indeed, they came swiftly and departed swiftly.
"Are these people from the Gaoju Family?" Douglas carefully examined, "If so, then this family is indeed terrifying."
"Legend has it this family will stop at nothing for their goals, never taking prisoners, a trait shared with the Mantai People."
Amoon shared his extensive knowledge.
They seemed to echo the world's impression of the Gaoju Family, reminding Igor of how many traits matched this group before them.
Igor started scrutinizing these lifeless bodies on the ground, once vibrant lives, now cold corpses, without a word or expression throughout.
Truly like wooden figures, genuinely without any emotion.
"Even corpses can speak; we haven't severed all clues." Amoon remarked, beginning to observe them.
Suddenly, these bodies started drying, evidently disturbed by Earth Leeches again.
"Ugh..." Igor found these Earth Leeches truly annoying.
"Leave it to me!" Seeing the situation, Amoon promptly reacted, releasing more Exchange Beasts to deal with the Earth Leeches underground.
"Glad we discovered it in time; otherwise, we'd face a batch of dried corpses." Douglas was relieved.
The three observed carefully, forming a unanimous view on the six attackers' identities.
That was, the six were indeed members of the Gaoju Family.
They based this on the Dual Fish Badge tattoos on their heads and the dual fish emblem on their clothing.
Only upon closer inspection did they notice the clothing also bore the Dual Fish symbol, representing the Gaoju Family, an ancient clan thriving in the watery Vero Realm, never before seen in other domains.
"These clothes are quite valuable; it's a pity they bear the Dual Fish emblem, else they'd fetch a good price at the Black Market."
"Can't they fetch a good price even now?" Amoon wondered at Douglas.
"Clothes with family emblems, no Black Market would dare accept; they're not foolish, knowing they can't provoke families." Douglas explained.
"True, the Gaoju Family is an ancient Hunter family, never with a good reputation, their sacrifice of many clans for Queen Wensi's favor is known worldwide."
Igor was aware, as Stan Sol had told him the family's history.
Yet he couldn't fathom why the Gaoju Family appeared here.
