One-Eyed Monster
Chapter 1437 - 1434: Water Spirit (Part 2)
This Precarious Watcher brought Igor not just surprise, but waves of confusion.
Especially that Illusion Spell, which Igor couldn't fathom at all.
Whose magical power is this, why do it, do others see these dangers from their perspective too?
These things, which shouldn't have been issues, slowly took root and grew into a towering tree in Igor's heart, making him restless.
"Is this Illusion Spell something left here deliberately?" Igor asked in bewilderment.
"Possibly, but nobody knows for sure now," Douglas replied gently.
"The wisdom of the ancestors always surprises us, yet here we just can't understand how such an Illusion Spell was formed," Amoon sighed, his tone filled with reluctance and helplessness.
"So you're saying, this rock, no, I mean this mountain, seems to be man-made then." Reflecting on his spontaneous admiration for nature earlier, he felt he had been too impulsive.
This is certainly not the work of nature, what's the point in admiring nature for this?
"Well, it's hard to say whether it's man-made or not. From my understanding, no one can carve such a statue, and this kind of smoothness can't be achieved with any tools," Amoon explained.
This explanation somewhat eased Igor's previous regret; he felt many things were complicated and beyond his comprehension.
"Now, perhaps we should summon the Spirit Book. It might know more than us," Amoon reminded them, suggesting the main reason they came was the words from the Spirit Book.
"I completely forgot, alas!" Igor sighed, his awe at the place had indeed made him forget their main purpose.
The Spirit Book was thus summoned. It had been resting, and who knows what kind of grand strategy it was brewing this time.
"We've reached the Precarious Watcher!" The Spirit Book yawned and stretched lazily, evidently rested well.
"Yes, we have arrived, it's all yours now," Amoon said.
"Hmm, the familiar scent, it's been ages since I've visited this place; it's still the same old scent, nothing has changed," the Spirit Book was filled with nostalgia, like a child revisiting a familiar place.
"Uh, we're here now, but everywhere seems dangerous. I mean in terms of crossing the river. Where exactly is the shortcut?" Igor couldn't wait; he was eager to see how the Spirit Book would respond.
"Everywhere is dangerous? You mean what you see?" The Spirit Book was quite puzzled by Igor's statement and seemed to be waiting for him to explain further.
"Yes, looking from the direction this rock points, everywhere on the river surface appears to be dangerous." Igor replied calmly, confident in the scenes he observed.
"You're referring to the mist on the river, fish swimming in the water, the rushing currents, etc.?" The Spirit Book answered on behalf of Igor.
"Isn't that right?" Igor retorted, feeling the Spirit Book was playing dumb, making him want to punch it.
"Haha, these superficial phenomena really do cause humans to be suspicious, indeed addressing the right 'illness' with the right 'medicine'," the Spirit Book chuckled; if it had shoulders, it surely would have shrugged.
This kind of response naturally puzzled Igor and the others; they wondered what the Spirit Book was up to, being mysterious at this moment, truly keeping them in suspense.
Just as Igor was about to express his frustration, Amoon stepped in and stopped him.
Amoon whispered, "You wanted to know how to communicate with the Spirit Book, right? Just start by being clay-like; never show impatience or curiosity before a Spirit Book."
Igor was taken aback by this remark, as he wasn't foolish; he understood what Amoon meant by it.
Therefore, Igor and Douglas, along with the others, remained silent.
This silence made the Spirit Book a bit uncomfortable; it hadn't expected these few individuals to react this way, showing disinterest in its seemingly mysterious words!
To the Spirit Book, this was an insult.
In truth, Amoon and the others knew, regardless of anything, that the Spirit Book would eventually say what it wanted to say; the suspense was merely to make them more eager.
"Don't you want to know why?" the Spirit Book said, evidently with a trace of urgency in its tone.
"We're more interested in knowing where the shortcut is!" Amoon replied calmly, shrugging his shoulders, meaning they're genuinely not interested in the reason.
"Uh... This won't do, there's a cause-and-effect to this; the statue behind you is just a phenomenon; its purpose isn't to remind you, but merely to warn you,"
Amoon and Igor exchanged a knowing smile; Amoon thought, see, it still told you what you wanted to know. If you kept pushing, it would only delay further instead of being direct, because every book loves to preach; otherwise, they'd lose much of their value.
Of course, what the Spirit Book said was still shocking to them, but to shake off the Spirit Book's condescending manner, they continued to act nonchalant.
"Don't you have any questions?" The Spirit Book felt completely puzzled, wondering why even Igor had ceased to be curious; could their desire to know the shortcut be so overwhelming!
"We want to know where the shortcut lies, the rest we aren't so concerned about, but if you think it's necessary, we don't mind either. After all, we've spent half the day on this shortcut issue, and it doesn't matter much," Amoon said mildly, meaning now the initiative is in the Spirit Book's hands, it's up to you whether to speak or not.
The Spirit Book was facing such opponents for the first time, evidently lacking experience, directly falling into the trap that Amoon had set.
"Well, do you know the Water Spirit?" The Spirit Book inquired.
"Of course, it's said that Han Lake is the Water Spirit's realm, which adds another layer of danger to crossing the lake," Douglas answered.
"You've mentioned half correctly," the Spirit Book again assumed a haughty posture, which in Igor's eyes made it quite irritating.
Douglas shrugged as if to say, whatever you say; I'm not asking, although in their hearts they were eagerly wanting to know the answer.
"Han Lake is indeed the domain of the Water Spirit, but the Water Spirit isn't the danger of crossing the lake!" The Spirit Book stated.
