Chapter 1440 - 1437: The True Meaning

  • Next Chapter

The Spirit Book now mentions the Han Lake, which is related to the Water Spirits.

The Water Spirits of the Vero Realm appeared in the Han Lake, first articulated by the Vero People. Since the Vero People always believed their aquatic skills were superb, they constantly tried to cross the Han Lake to invade Kayne and Mantai. They continuously attempted and explored, always lingering by the shores of the Han Lake.

During that time, standing on the opposite shore of the Han Lake, one could always see a dense crowd on the other side. These Vero People kept challenging the Han Lake, but ultimately faced continuous failures.

However, being slapped by the waves, sucked into whirlpools—such failures could not deter the Vero People. They persevered in their experiments, willing to endure head injuries and bleeding.

Ultimately, it was the Water Spirits that made the Vero People give up the route across the Han Lake.

It is said that at the time, an advance team of the Vero People once again pushed their boats to challenge the unusual nature of the Han Lake.

Yet, as soon as their boat touched the water, they sensed the anger of Han Lake. The Vero People weren't unfamiliar with such occurrences and had ways to overcome such fury.

However, this time, the anger of Han Lake subsided faster than usual, as though a stronger force had overshadowed this anger. Naturally, the Vero People were more familiar with water currents than others, and they traced this peculiarity, searching for this powerful force.

Then they were astonished to discover that the Han Lake harbored Water Spirits. Their sensitivity to the Water Spirits caused them to immediately turn the vessel around, but just as they were approaching the shore, the Water Spirits crushed them.

The boat was left as wreckage, and out of an advance team of fifteen, only two survived.

These two lucky survivors were the ones who spread the news of Water Spirits dwelling in Han Lake.

Because of the fame of Water Spirits, the news quickly circulated across the entire Yowein Continent.

Queen Wensi did not believe such news and dispatched another advance team for investigation, but eventually, this team also disappeared without a trace, leaving only their helmet by the Han Lake.

The second team, third team, fourth team...

Several teams were sent out, each disappearing. The Vero People knew well, even though the currents of the Han Lake were swift, it shouldn't result in the complete disappearance of the Vero warriors' remains. In previous expeditions, many teams exploring Han Lake had safely retreated, though unable to reach the opposite shore, returning was feasible.

But this time, none of the advance teams managed to retreat...

To achieve such secrecy, leaving no trace, only the Water Spirits could manage...

It was also because of the presence of Water Spirits that the Wensi Empire abandoned their plans to attack Kayne and Mantai via the Han Lake route.

The Spirit Book rambled on, explaining extensively, and simply sought to recount the history of the Water Spirits within Han Lake.

"After all this time, you're merely speaking from hearsay..." Igor still harbored a slight grudge over the previous matters.

"You should feel ashamed upon knowing this history. The Vero People tried every means to cross the Han Lake, attempting numerous times, but what about Kayne? It seems they never even attempted once. Is the Han Lake so insignificant?" The Spirit Book was slightly emotional.

"What are you talking about?" Igor was rather baffled by why the Spirit Book had to say these things.

Amoon seemed to grasp the underlying implication.

"Lord Soron's concern was always right. Kayne indeed overlooked the Han Lake, and the surrounding troops are few, not even well-equipped."

Igor was somewhat unaccustomed to such profound thoughts of national concerns.

"Lord Soron himself led by example, attempting to find a way to cross the Han Lake for the sake of the entire continent. It was during this process that he discovered a shortcut."

Finally speaking of a shortcut, but Igor vaguely felt that everything previously mentioned was unrelated to this shortcut.

Initially, Igor intended to mock, but he refrained since he didn't want to add more chaos. The Spirit Book hardly remembered what it had to do, unable to be casually interrupted.

"Now you may feel all this has nothing to do with the Water Spirits, but I'm here to tell you, everything is related to the Water Spirits." The Spirit Book voiced the query lingering in Igor's mind, proving rather understanding.

But what exactly is the connection to Water Spirits?

"This shortcut was created by the Water Spirits. If you wish to cross the Han Lake, you must rely on the help of Water Spirits."

The Spirit Book spoke earnestly, disregarding the astonished expressions of others.

Invoke the Water Spirits' help?

Is this nonsense? Water Spirits aiding people to cross the river? Don't be ridiculous, unless a pie falls from the sky; such a situation won't occur.

"Are you serious?" Amoon expressed his doubts, feeling this was simply a joke.

"This was discovered by Lord Soron—you think he would deceive you?" The Spirit Book retorted, this time showing no hint of amusement, wearing a serious demeanor.

"But, Water Spirits, isn't this unknown? How could they possibly show us kindness..." Douglas also naturally didn't believe.

Igor didn't doubt this time; he instead anticipated the appearance of the Water Spirits.

"Kindness is mutual. If you don't respect others, they won't respect you." The Spirit Book's teachings began.

"Even if we need the Water Spirits' aid, how can we communicate with them? Haven't Water Spirits always regarded us with malice?" Unlike Douglas and Amoon who questioned the fact, Igor was more concerned about how to meet the Water Spirits.

"You've asked a pertinent question." The Spirit Book smiled, it now genuinely liked Igor.

"I don't understand..."

"Do you recall the initial talk about appearances, which relates to the statue behind you?" The Spirit Book continued questioning, guiding Igor and others, hoping they find those hidden secrets sooner.

"Do you mean the Precarious Watcher's emblem?" Igor glanced back at this emblem, neither stone nor mountain.

"Yes, this is a statue."

"A statue indicating danger to us." Igor promptly added.

"You're speaking of apparent meanings, but the true purpose of this object isn't to indicate danger to humanity; it's conveying a message, a warning, or better yet, a friendly reminder." The Spirit Book explained.

This novel interpretation naturally surprised Igor and others.

"Of course, you might wonder how I know this. In fact, this isn't my discovery; it's Lord Soron's discovery. He wrote these down, but few could comprehend them..."
