Chapter 299: 299: Teasing The Kitty

After the pups nodded, Ayra smiled and sat up, looking at them. "That’s more like it." She patted their heads before turning to Ally. "Go with them and let them retire for the night."

There were no objections. Ayra had already given her firm instructions, so Ally nodded, gathered the little ones in her arms, and turned to leave.

The triplet snake cubs and Zay were also about to leave with them and retire for the night. The children had their own wooden house to sleep in, after all.

However, just before leaving, Ally suddenly remembered something and paused. Turning towards Ayra, she asked, "Oh, yeah, Mama. What about my healing test?"

She added, "I was supposed to heal my first patient, but I didn’t get the opportunity because of what happened. So, when am I going to get a chance to do that?"

Ayra smiled. "Don’t worry. I’ll make arrangements for that soon enough."

Ally nodded with a smile before carrying the little ones away to retire for the night.

"I’ll go and stay with the kids," Lord Ash said, and Lord Vale followed behind him. The two intended to keep the little ones company and ensure they were safe.

Once they had left, Lord Zark turned to Ayra and asked, "Do you need me to stay with you tonight?"

But Ayra smiled and shook her head. "No. I’ll be with Nyx tonight."

At those words, both Lord Zark and Nyx, who was standing nearby, were stunned. They stared at Ayra in disbelief, as did Kan and the others who were still present.

"...."

Everyone was surprised.

"With me?" Nyx asked, as though he couldn’t believe his ears.

"Yes, with you. Why? Don’t you want to spend time with me? Do you hate me that much?" Ayra asked, folding her arms as she stared at him.

The old wild cat would normally have refused without hesitation. However, at that moment, he found himself hesitating. He didn’t want to turn down the opportunity to spend time with Ayra.

Strangely enough, he even wanted to spend time with her.

When he failed to respond, he simply stood there, staring at Ayra in silence.

Ayra smiled. "I’ll take that as a yes."

Lord Zark folded his arms as he looked at Nyx suspiciously. "Is something happening here that I need to know about? I thought you hated the female?"

"How could I possibly hate her...?" Nyx found himself replying before immediately shutting his mouth.

"I mean... I’m not that evil to just hate someone like that..." he added awkwardly.

Ayra smiled, as did Rai and some of the other beastmen watching the exchange.

"Then that’s good!" Ayra declared. "We shall spend the night together."

Nyx stared at her in alarm. "What do you mean by spending the night together...?"

Now, everyone was staring at them curiously, eager to understand what she meant.

But Ayra immediately hugged herself and gasped dramatically. "I mean we’ll go for a walk, chat, and all that. What were you thinking about?" she teased him.

Nyx instantly flushed, his cheeks turning red as he hurriedly defended himself. "I’m not thinking about anything! You’re making things up!"

Ayra only smiled before turning towards Lord Zark and the others. "So... You can all retire now."

She approached Nyx and linked her arm with his, smiling brightly.

"I’ll be spending some time with my kitty."

"Kitty?" Rai and Kan repeated in shock, struggling to hold back their laughter.

Nyx shot her a glare. "Who’s your kitty? I’m not that..."

Lord Zark chuckled. "Then have fun with your kitty," he teased before turning and walking away.

"Who are you calling a kitty...?" Nyx demanded, but Rai and Kan were already grinning at him.

"Bye, kitty!" the two called out before hurrying away, unable to hold back their laughter any longer.

"I’ll kill you when I find you!" Nyx threatened as they ran off.

With everyone gone, Nyx was left standing alone with Ayra, who still had her arm linked with his. He glanced down at their linked arms before looking up at her smiling face.

"You can let go of my hand now," he said, trying to sound firm.

"You don’t like it?" Ayra asked with a smile, leaning closer to him.

"...."

Nyx said nothing for a moment. He supposed he actually liked it, but he wanted to play it cool.

"No... I don’t..." he eventually replied.

Ayra smiled and released his arm, nodding. "Okay, kitty. Can I call you that?"

Nyx stared at her in disbelief. "No! I’m not a kitty. I’m a ferocious cat... A wild one who destroys!" he insisted.

But Ayra only smiled.

"How cute."

She reached over and patted his hair and ears affectionately.

"I’m not cute!" Nyx protested.

Just then, a little squirrel suddenly darted past his leg. The unexpected movement startled him so badly that he jumped in fright.

"Meow!" he cried out sharply.

The squirrel immediately scurried away, leaving Nyx standing frozen in embarrassment as he realized that it had only been a tiny squirrel.

Ayra burst into laughter at his reaction.

Nyx’s cheeks flushed even more as he glared at her, utterly embarrassed.

"Let’s go now, or I’ll just go and sleep," he muttered.

Ayra tried to force herself to stop laughing before nodding. "Okay, okay! I won’t laugh. Let’s go."

With that, the two began walking through the tribe.

However, Ayra still couldn’t stop giggling whenever she remembered his reaction.

"Cute kitty."

"I’m not cute, and I’m not a kitty!" Nyx insisted, folding his arms.

But his protests only made Ayra smile even more as they continued their walk.

Ayra had figured that she also needed to spend more time with the wild cat. He was one of her potential mates, and she still remembered the system’s earlier updates.

The system had informed her that Nyx held the key to reaching 100% in most of her stats. Because of that, Ayra figured she could start by getting closer to him.

However, completing her system tasks wasn’t the only reason she wanted to spend time with him.

Ayra genuinely wanted to get closer to Nyx. She felt that the cat was a misunderstood individual, someone who had been labeled a wild beastman who only knew how to destroy.

But Ayra couldn’t help seeing the softer side of him. Beneath his fierce appearance and intimidating reputation, she had noticed a gentleness that drew her towards him.

And somehow, that gentle side of Nyx made her heart flutter. She wanted to understand him better and discover more of the person he kept hidden beneath his wild exterior.

Perhaps this was the perfect opportunity to accomplish both things: grow closer to Nyx while gradually working towards completing her system tasks.
