Chapter 562 - 560: I Miss You, Celeste...
Chapter 562: Chapter 560: I Miss You, Celeste...
Arthur Jacobs wore a dark expression, but there was nothing else he could do but wait for someone from the General’s Mansion to come and get him.
Meanwhile, back at the fork in the road, Celeste Grant and the others, who had been enjoying the show, watched as that young master was led away. They saw Arthur Jacobs and his dog bites, though he didn’t notice them there.
"Serves him right for getting bitten."
Once the others had left, Aaron Sinclair turned his gaze to his birth parents. He reached out to take his mother’s hand, feeling its warmth. A smile spread across his face.
"Let’s go home."
It was a simple phrase, "let’s go home," yet it was laden with complex emotions. He was realizing that not all homes were the same. He had lived in the General’s Mansion for years, but Aaron Sinclair never felt like it was his home. In contrast, the short time he’d spent with his birth parents had given him a sense of belonging. ’This is what home feels like.’
Celeste Grant raised a hand and gently stroked his head, her tone soft. "Alright, let’s go home." As she spoke, her gaze shifted to Javier Sinclair. "The Archfiend is gone."
Javier Sinclair grunted in acknowledgment.
"Mm, let’s go."
Holding his mother’s hand, Aaron Sinclair looked at his father. He sidled up to his mother, his face full of curiosity. "Mother, why do you call Dad ’The Archfiend’?" ’The strangest part was that it sounded completely natural to him, almost affectionate, as if it were the most normal thing in the world for his mother to call his father that.’
’Could this be what it meant to be a family of three, bound by blood?’ he wondered. ’To feel such familiarity and warmth in everything they did?’
Hearing this, Celeste Grant couldn’t help but laugh. "Why don’t you ask your father?"
Aaron Sinclair turned to his father and couldn’t resist asking, "So, Dad, why is that?"
Javier Sinclair glanced at his son and said with a straight face, "Isn’t it obvious? It’s proof that your mother and I have a great relationship. Why doesn’t she call anyone else a Demon? She only calls me one. That’s why. You’re still young. You’ll understand when you have a wife of your own someday."
Aaron Sinclair nodded slightly and laughed. "Haha, I knew it was something like that."
After all, when his mother called his father a Demon, her eyes were full of tenderness. There was no doubt they had a wonderful relationship.
「Back in the carriage.」
Celeste Grant sat next to her son, with Javier Sinclair seated across from them. Outside, Zephyr drove the carriage toward the Warden’s Northern Manor.
Inside the carriage, Aaron Sinclair was still thinking about that word, "Demon."
"Dad, I didn’t expect Mom to call you a Demon. I’ve heard storytellers talk about those ’Demons,’ and they’re always powerful, at least a sect leader or something. You don’t happen to have some incredible identity, do you?"
Upon hearing this, Javier Sinclair’s gaze fell upon his son. He said nonchalantly, "Something like that."
Before he could say more, Javier Sinclair spoke again. "Actually, you can take that word, ’Demon,’ another way—literally. Do you want to hear the truth, or a lie?"
Aaron Sinclair arched an eyebrow, his face full of curiosity. "Is there something I don’t know? Go on, I’m listening."
Javier Sinclair sat up straight. He glanced at his son and said very calmly, "The truth is, your father—I—am the Umbral Sovereign. This current avatar has already been in Cultivation for ten thousand years. As for my true body, it’s still slumbering in the Demon Realm and is now nearly two hundred thousand years old. I am the supreme God of the Demon Realm, the Demon God."
Because this was his own son, he held nothing back. Every word he spoke was the truth. As the Demon God, at his level of power, his true body would not easily manifest in the mortal plane; his avatar was more than sufficient.
The corner of Aaron Sinclair’s mouth twitched, and he couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes.
"Yeah, right, Dad. I’ll just listen to you spin your tall tales. I’ll just sit here quietly and listen."
Javier Sinclair waved a hand dismissively and said softly, "I tell you the truth and you don’t believe me. You can’t blame me for that." ’So, when this sliver of his son’s Primordial Spirit returns to its true body and he remembers everything, he can’t blame his old man for not giving him a heads-up.’
The Demon God? The Umbral Sovereign? Here in the Mortal Realm? Anyone would think he was just bragging. Hahaha! It was hilarious. But in fact, the boy’s father was telling the absolute truth.
Listening to the conversation between father and son, Celeste Grant chimed in, "Son, have you ever considered the possibility that your father is telling the truth?"
Of course, Aaron Sinclair didn’t believe her, assuming his mother was just playing along with his father’s joke. He reached out and hugged her arm, smiling as he said, "Yes, yes. I believe whatever Mother says."
Celeste Grant smiled and hugged her son, patting his arm gently. "Such a good boy." She happily planted a kiss on his forehead.
Javier Sinclair, sitting across from them, let out a dry laugh. ’Heh. The boy’s this old and still needs to be cuddled? Is that any way to behave?’
He leaned forward slightly and grabbed his son’s arm, pulling the boy over to sit next to him. Then he slid over to sit beside his wife. He put an arm around Celeste Grant’s shoulder and scooped her into his embrace.
"Celeste, I’m feeling a little dizzy." As he spoke, he rested his head against Celeste Grant’s, their faces close. "Let me lean on you for a bit. I might have had too much to drink at the palace."
Celeste Grant: "..."
’Archfiend, do you hear the nonsense you’re spouting? You can drink Spiritual Wine from the Cultivation World like it’s water. The wine from this Mortal Realm is no different from plain water to you.’
She shot him a sideways glare.
"You’re so childish."
Javier Sinclair wrapped his arm around her waist, closing his eyes to rest without another word.
Seeing this, Aaron Sinclair, who was sitting opposite them, felt like he was being subjected to an unnecessary public display of affection.
The carriage ambled down the street, the sound of its wheels rolling across the ground. Soon, they arrived at the entrance to the Warden’s Northern Manor.
"Your Highness, Princess Consort... we’ve arrived."
After getting down from the carriage, the family of three walked inside...
「That night.」
Celeste Grant rested her head on Javier Sinclair’s chest. Lying on her side, she placed a hand on his abs.
Noticing her eyes were open, Javier Sinclair gently patted her back. "Can’t sleep?"
Celeste Grant looked up at him and said softly, "I’m thinking about something."
Just one look told Javier Sinclair exactly what she was thinking. "You mean that so-called ’system’ that appeared in this world?"
Celeste Grant nodded slightly. "You noticed it, too?"
Javier Sinclair was unconcerned.
"How could I not? I noticed it the first day I arrived. Don’t worry about it; it’s nothing important. If you can’t sleep..." His hand moved from her back, stroking downward to her waist. "Or perhaps my wife would like to do something else."
"I’m trying to discuss something serious! What’s on your mind?"
He was very direct.
"You, Celeste."
Celeste Grant slapped his hand away.
Javier Sinclair behaved himself.
"Speak. I’m listening."
