Quick Transmigration Cannon Fodder’s Record of Counterattacks
Chapter 3635: Ghosts Everywhere (7)
The building shook violently. Ning Shu and her group were at the very bottom. Had they been on the upper floors, the swaying would have surely made them vomit.
If they didn’t act soon, they would be buried under the ruins.
Ning Shu saw that Song Mo was still trying to mentally prepare himself. She snatched the wooden stick from his hand, pulled open the iron gate, and charged toward the massive white skeleton. She jammed the stick, which was coated in Fengyou Essence, directly into the bone. Sure enough, the medicated oil began to corrode the white bone, sending up plumes of green smoke.
What a bizarre, distorted world.
The skeleton seemed to feel the pain. It lifted a foot and stomped directly toward Ning Shu. The massive sole of its foot came crashing down. Even though Ning Shu ran with all her might, she was still caught under the giant foot.
“Shi Mei…”
Ning Shu snapped her eyes open. She stared at the stark white ceiling of her dormitory while the large fan in the center whirred around and around.
She was drenched in sweat and her heart raced. A rhythmic thumping filled her ears.
Ning Shu sat up. Her head felt heavy and swollen, throbbing with a splitting pain. She had absolutely no strength left in her body.
She rubbed her brow and turned her head to see a bottle of Fengyou Essence on her nightstand. A faint scent of camphor and mint lingered around her nose. That medicated oil certainly seemed to have a lot of screen time.
Was it just a dream?
Ning Shu felt incredibly weak. Her body was more exhausted than if she had run five kilometres. She was just so, so tired.
“Shi Mei, hurry up. We have class soon,” her roommate said. This was the same roommate who had given her the Fengyou Essence in the dream.
Ning Shu’s mind was a complete jumble. She actually couldn’t remember this woman’s name.
Sometimes you clearly knew someone, yet you just couldn’t call out their name.
It was temporary amnesia.
“I know.” Ning Shu climbed out of bed, though her limbs felt like lead. To be honest, feeling like this made her wonder if she had been sleepwalking.
She dizzily went to get water to wash her face. Thinking of the dream she’d had, Ning Shu held her washbasin and poked her head into the bathroom first. There were quite a few people inside brushing their teeth or using the toilet.
Ning Shu let out a long sigh of relief. So it really was a dream?
She splashed ice-cold water onto her face. The biting chill cleared her head slightly and brought some relief to her stinging eyes.
Regardless, she still couldn’t find any energy.
Ning Shu buried her face in the washbasin to try and wake herself up.
After finishing her morning routine, she hurriedly followed her roommate to class.
University life was relatively free, but if you were unlucky enough to be absent when the professor took roll, you could kiss your credits goodbye.
Although Ning Shu felt unwell and moved in a daze, being around a large crowd of people provided a sense of vitality. With so much human energy around, there shouldn’t be any demons or ghosts, right?
Ning Shu followed the tide of people into the classroom and found a seat. Before the professor arrived, she tried to cultivate her Unsurpassable Martial Arts. Although modern planes lacked spiritual energy, she could still absorb the fiery yang energy.
Then, Ning Shu discovered that she couldn’t use her Unsurpassable Martial Arts at all. Even though the sun was shining brightly outside and birds were hopping and chirping on the tree branches, the magnetic field remained distorted.
Ning Shu: ???
What was going on?
If it wasn’t a dream, then had she not woken up from the dream yet?
She felt weak all over and her head ached terribly. She felt so miserable that she honestly thought she might die.
“Shi Mei.” Someone behind her poked her in the back with a pen. Ning Shu turned around and saw Song Mo.
“What is it?” she asked.
“Why are your eyes so red? Did you not sleep well?” Song Mo asked.
“I’m fine.” Ning Shu turned back around. Song Mo poked her with the pen again. She suppressed the irritability brought on by her physical discomfort and silently recited the heart-clearing chant.
“What is it now?” Ning Shu asked with a forced smile.
“Shi Mei, I think your smile looks terrifying.” Song Mo looked at her and pulled out a hamburger. “You haven’t eaten yet. Here, for you.”
Ning Shu saw that the hamburger was covered in crawling maggots. It even emitted a foul stench. In short, it was something utterly disgusting.
Her heart hammered against her ribs, but she kept a calm face. “I’ve already eaten. Keep it for yourself.”
“I’ve already eaten too. You take it.” As Song Mo spoke, he tried to shove the food into her hands.
Ning Shu: …
“I’m not hungry, really.” Ning Shu quickly declined. She was determined not to eat it.
“What’s wrong with you? You look so haggard.” Song Mo asked curiously.
Seeing her sickly, pale face with a greenish tint, he couldn’t help but ask with concern, “Are you sick?”
“Just eat it. Don’t be polite.”
“That’s your breakfast. I’m not eating it,” Ning Shu declined politely once more.
“I’m giving it to you!”
“No, it’s your hamburger.”
“Fine, stop pushing it back and forth. Give it to me.” A roommate snatched the burger away. Under Ning Shu’s trembling gaze and horrified expression, the roommate took a bite and started chewing.
Ning Shu closed her eyes and rubbed them. When she opened them again, she saw that there were still maggots crawling on the bun and over the beef patty inside.
Ning Shu: …
Was she the one who was blind, or were all of these people blind?
However, no one around her showed any abnormal reaction. It was as if the roommate were simply eating an ordinary beef burger.
Ning Shu, who possessed an incredibly powerful spirit, asked her roommate, “How does it taste? Is it delicious?”
The roommate gave Ning Shu a suggestive wink. “It’s not bad. Don’t be so modest next time.”
“Don’t you see the bugs on it?” Ning Shu asked.
“What bugs?” the roommate asked while looking the burger over.
“Could you not try to gross people out while they’re eating?” The roommate playfully punched Ning Shu in the chest, hitting her so hard her heart felt like it might break.
Ning Shu closed her eyes and rubbed her temples. When she opened them again, she saw her roommate stuffing the last maggot-filled bite into her mouth.
She began to deeply suspect that something was wrong with her eyes, and a major something at that.
Ning Shu pulled a mirror out of her bag and hid it behind a book to look at herself. She pried her eyelids open and checked to see if her eyes had suffered some kind of functional impairment. The things she saw were different from what everyone else saw.
Shi Mei wasn’t a world-shaking beauty, but at most, she was a woman with fair skin. This skin was quite lovely, without any messy spots or blemishes.
She could be considered pretty.
Her eyelids were swollen and her eyes were bloodshot. She looked exhausted, but there didn’t seem to be anything physically wrong.
Had she just been seeing things earlier?
The professor arrived to give the lecture. She was a woman and started by taking attendance. Ning Shu didn’t know if it was just her imagination, but when the professor called her name, she felt like the woman was grinning at her. Flesh and blood fell off the professor’s face in chunks, leaving a crimson mess where the texture of the muscles was clearly visible.
Ning Shu didn’t realize her eyesight was so good that she could see the flayed texture of the professor’s face from all the way at the podium.
Ning Shu began her internal chant. ‘Prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony, freedom, equality, justice, the rule of law… may the Socialist Core Values protect me, protect my body, Heaven is spirit, earth is spirit…’
Without any spirit energy, though, Ning Shu realized she had become a fake Daoist priest.
