Chapter 3636: Ghosts Everywhere (8)

The distorted magnetic field and the chaotic state of the world meant that Ning Shu couldn’t use any of her auxiliary methods.

“Shi Mei, it’s time to hand in your paper,” the professor said to Ning Shu. As she spoke, her flesh continued to peel away, revealing the blood-stained bone of her face.

The corner of Ning Shu’s mouth twitched.

“Some students have no idea what they’re doing every day. I assigned this a long time ago, yet it’s still not finished,” the professor said with a hideous grin.

Ning Shu closed her eyes. “I understand.”

It was all an illusion, just an illusion. When Ning Shu scanned the room with her spiritual consciousness, she found that the professor looked normal again.

Her eyes were deceiving her!

She deeply suspected this was a lingering effect of last night’s dream. Now, everything she looked at seemed like something disgusting and extreme.

Ning Shu sat down. She felt exhausted, her body weak and aching. She simply had no energy. Listening to the professor’s lullaby of a lecture, her eyelids grew heavy, and she felt an irresistible urge to sleep.

She pinched her thigh hard, and a jolt of pain shot through her. Even though she had been in bed all night, she felt as tired as if she had been asleep for half a month. She couldn’t let herself fall back to sleep.

The horrific and intensely stimulating images in her mind were draining her energy, leaving her body in a state of constant fatigue.

However, the drowsiness was impossible to resist. In an instant, Ning Shu plunged into darkness. She didn’t know how much time had passed before someone shook her awake. “Shi Mei, stop sleeping. Get up.”

Song Mo shook her awake. Ning Shu opened her eyes and asked, “Is it over?”

“You really can sleep. You slept from the beginning to the very end,” Song Mo said.

Her other three roommates were packing their things. They said to Ning Shu, “Hurry up, or there won’t be anything left to eat at the cafeteria.”

Ning Shu felt even more tired. The more she slept, the more exhausted she became. It looked like she would have to stay up late tonight. She would be staying up late to cultivate toward immortality—only cultivation could make her happy.

When they arrived at the cafeteria, Ning Shu looked at the dishes in the basins. They were filled with spiders, centipedes, and large worms. They were terrifying things.

Watching the people around her eat these things, Ning Shu felt like gagging.

Something had happened to her eyes. It had to be.

Ning Shu scanned with her spiritual consciousness and saw that the food was actually normal.

It seemed she would have to eat with her eyes closed from now on.

“Shi Mei, what are you doing?” Her roommate asked, feeling baffled as she watched Ning Shu shove food into her mouth with her eyes shut.

Ning Shu opened her eyes and saw centipedes, worms, and fried scorpions on the other girl’s plate. She quickly closed her eyes again.

I can’t see them, I can’t see them…

This distorted magnetic field was enough to drive someone insane. If an ordinary person saw that what they were looking at was different from everyone else—that everyone was eating horrifying insects and familiar people were grinning at them like monsters—it would be a total nightmare.

She wasn’t sure if she was awake or dreaming anymore. She was losing her grip on reality. She had to be dreaming to see things so differently from everyone else.

“Aaaaah!” Terrifying, shrill screams rang out across the campus, followed by the sound of growls and roars.

Those sounds were so familiar. Ning Shu felt a splitting headache coming on.

“What’s happening?” her roommate asked curiously. Immediately afterward, zombies with staggering gaits and dull, bloodthirsty eyes charged into the cafeteria.

They bit whoever they saw. Those who were bitten were quickly swarmed and torn apart by the zombies.

The three roommates were so terrified they clutched their heads and screamed, seemingly losing their ability to think straight. They were clearly paralyzed by the horror.

Ning Shu kicked one and grabbed another. “Stop screaming! Run!”

The veins on Ning Shu’s forehead bulged. She felt like her head was about to explode.

The roommates, snapped back to their senses by Ning Shu’s kicks, quickly followed her.

They ran out of the cafeteria. The campus was in total chaos, with blood everywhere and zombies wandering around. Ning Shu no longer bothered to wonder where these zombies had come from.

Even though it was daytime, the sight of these zombies roaming the campus, lunging at people and tearing into them, made her hair stand on end. It was terrifying. She suspected this was all just a dream.

The zombies caught the scent of living humans and lunged at Ning Shu and her group. Ning Shu pulled out the Fengyou Essence and splashed it on the approaching zombies, but the medicated oil no longer had any effect.

Had it turned back into ordinary medicated oil?

Ning Shu didn’t have time to figure out what was going on. She could only run as fast as her legs would carry her. She should be calling for help right now, as there was no way she could take on the zombies alone.

One of her roommates, who was exhausted from running, slowed down and was torn apart by the zombies. A swarm of them crowded around her, feasting on her corpse.

Her two remaining roommates were now shaking like leaves. They didn’t dare stop and kept running.

“Shi Mei, where are we going?” one roommate asked Ning Shu while panting heavily. By this point, they were terrified out of their wits. Seeing that Ning Shu was relatively calm, they pinned all their hopes on her.

“Out of the campus.” Ning Shu gritted her teeth. Subconsciously, she wanted to go to the dorms, as if the dorms were the only safe place.

It was completely illogical. Why would the dorms be safe?

What Ning Shu had to do now was expand her field of vision. Last night, the scope of the nightmare had been limited to the girls’ dormitory. Now, it had expanded to the entire campus.

There was a lot of missing logic here. Even though things were this serious, no one had appeared. Only Song Mo had shown up; no university officials were anywhere to be found.

After Ning Shu had been stomped to death by a giant pile of white bones, she had woken up to find everything normal, as if it had just been a dream. Now, zombies had appeared.

Ning Shu could no longer tell if she was dreaming or awake, or if it was a dream within a dream. Perhaps she was still dreaming.

But this dream was larger and more vivid. There were severed limbs and uniforms scattered along the path they took.

Ning Shu saw the campus gate. She pulled her two roommates along, preparing to dash out. She felt like her heart was going to jump out of her chest. The gate was right there. Maybe she could escape this situation.

But Ning Shu came to a dead stop. Several Xenomorph-like monsters had crawled out of the guardhouse next to the campus gate.

Oh, my god!

Ning Shu immediately turned and ran. These monsters looked like dinosaurs, but they weren’t. They had very long heads and flesh hanging from their mouths. They had clearly eaten the security guards in the guardhouse.

These monsters were incredibly fast. The roommates following Ning Shu were bitten to death. With just one bite, their bodies were snapped in two. Their lower halves actually kept running for a short distance due to momentum before falling over.

Ning Shu ran until her lungs felt like they were going to explode. Her head throbbed painfully, and she could no longer feel her legs. She could only keep running on pure instinct.

Why were these things getting more and more terrifying? Each time was more horrifying than the last. If this continued, her mind would surely break.

Was someone crafting these dreams for her?

If they were going to make dreams for her, they should at least make them pleasant. Why were they all nightmares like this?

This had to be the result of some deep-seated grudge!

When a person was subjected to too much stimulation and lost control of their emotions, their mind would become a jumble. They would either go crazy or turn into an idiot.
