Chapter 521: Wu Yun's Fangirl Underclassmen

Every September, the vast majority of freshmen arrived on campus, sold on the dream their high school teachers had painted for them.

Li Jing was no exception.

Back in high school, all her teachers would go on and on about the wonderful things awaiting them in college.

All the handsome guys from orientation day seemed to have been plants; they vanished right after they finished registering.

It wasn’t just her; her three roommates thought the same way.

“Li Jing, I totally regret applying to a teachers’ college!” a girl with a ponytail, dressed for the warm weather, complained. “My teacher said I’d find someone better in college, so I immediately gave up on my three-year crush! Ugh! Now I’m starting to doubt if I’ll even find a boyfriend in the next four years!”

Tugging at the camouflage uniform hanging on her locker door, she added, “I’m so glad to be out of these camos. My own clothes are so much more comfortable!”

“These camos made me look ten times uglier!”

Just then, a girl drying her freshly washed hair with a towel stepped out of the bathroom. Hearing their conversation, she laughed. “Well, we’ll get to see just how many cute guys there are at the opening ceremony tomorrow!”

SLAM! The security door was thrown open and a slightly chubby girl with a round face burst in.

“Girls! You’ll never guess what I just heard!”

Seeing the excited look on her face, Li Jing ventured a guess. “The opening ceremony is postponed and we get the day off?”

Li Jing broke into laughter. “Chen Jia, am I right?”

The other two laughed along with her. The atmosphere in the freshman girls’ dorm room was cheerful and harmonious.

Chen Jia, the girl who’d brought the news, rolled her eyes. “You’re so naive. As if they’d ever cancel or postpone the opening ceremony!”

With that, Chen Jia stopped beating around the bush. “I heard that the student representative at the opening ceremony is a huge deal at our school!”

“He’s a sophomore, and you’ve probably all heard his name!”

As soon as Chen Jia said that, it clicked for Li Jing. She slapped her thigh. “Oh! I know who you’re talking about!”

Liu Chang paused from drying her hair. “Who? Is he that famous?” she asked, confused.

Li Jing’s voice was also filled with excitement. “Wu Yun! I heard from one of my high school teachers that he’s just a year above us, but he’s already a nationally famous young entrepreneur!”

“No wonder I saw so many of the upperclassmen girls talking about the opening ceremony, saying they needed to get there early to save seats.”

Liu Chang looked curious. “Wu Yun? Who’s that? Is he really famous?”

The other three, Li Jing included, stared at her as if she were from another planet.

“Why are you all looking at me like that!? So what if he’s famous? Why do I have to know who he is!” Liu Chang said with a frown.

Li Jing finally spoke, her voice laced with disbelief. “Liu Chang, did you not have a phone in high school? Or ever go online?”

“My school and my parents were really strict, and besides, I prefer reading, so I rarely used my phone!” Liu Chang smiled at the three of them, not the least bit embarrassed about being out of the loop.

Li Jing looked completely speechless. “Okay, you win! Wu Yun is my absolute idol! He’s not just handsome, he’s also super rich! I feel like he’s the real-life version of all those young, successful CEOs you read about in novels!”

“Liu Chang! You’ve been here for a while, you must have seen those red bikes all over campus, right?” Li Jing said, looking at Liu Chang’s pretty face.

Liu Chang nodded. “The Little Red Car, right? I know about those! I even registered for an account the other day, but I haven’t paid the deposit yet.”

Chen Jia exclaimed excitedly, “That Little Red Car is Wu Yun’s company!”

“You have to understand, Little Red Car is in major cities all over the country now. Wu Yun’s net worth is in the hundreds of millions! And that’s in USD!”

Liao Na, who had been quiet until now, gave a knowing smile. “Chen Jia, what year is your news from? Wu Yun’s Pinduoduo was valued at over four billion US dollars in its last funding round! And his Nirvana Investment is the controlling shareholder!”

“And there are rumors online that Wu Yun has 100% ownership of Nirvana Investment! No idea if it’s true, though!”

As she listened to the other three chatter excitedly, Liu Chang grew more and more curious about Wu Yun. ‘I can’t believe a genius like that actually exists,’ she thought, ‘and he’s so close to my own life.’

She’d heard of legends like Bill Gates, and even Chinese tech giants like Xiaomage and Old Ma, but they were just that—legends. Wu Yun, on the other hand, who she’d see at the opening ceremony tomorrow, was the closest thing to a living legend she could actually encounter.

She made up her mind. Later, she would go online and look up everything she could find about Wu Yun.

“Have you guys seen the speech Wu Yun gave at the competition he hosted at the Bird’s Nest?” Li Jing was clearly asking the other two, not Liu Chang.

Liao Na’s expression immediately turned dreamy. “I saw it! He was sooooo manly! I just love his type—muscular and masculine!”

But Chen Jia teased, “Are you sure it’s his muscles you like, and not just his handsome face?”

Liao Na lifted the hem of her tank top, revealing her defined abs. “Tch! I just like guys who are athletic! Of course, all of Wu Yun’s other assets are a huge bonus I’m even more into!”

Li Jing, however, had a look of pure admiration. “I just thought his speech was so inspiring! But man, being rich really lets you do whatever you want!”
