Chapter 720: Somewhat Surprising

Seeing his reluctance, Director Xie didn’t press the matter.

When Qin Wenhao got home, he started cleaning the house.

He was just about to make a simple dinner when he heard the sound of a car outside.

His eyes immediately lit up.

He hurried outside at once.

Just then, Fu Mingxue was getting out of the driver’s seat.

She was a little surprised to see Qin Wenhao, too.

"Honey! You’re back!"

"You’re back from your mission too? When did you get in?"

"Just this afternoon. Let’s not stand here talking in the doorway. Come on in."

As he spoke, Qin Wenhao stepped forward and took the luggage from her hands.

After the couple went into the yard, Qin Wenhao closed the main gate behind them.

"What a coincidence. We both came home today."

Fu Mingxue was a little tired.

After all, it had been a long drive.

"I’m going to take a shower first. We can talk later."

Seeing the exhaustion on his wife’s face, Qin Wenhao’s heart ached for her.

"Honey, you go ahead and get showered. I’ll start on dinner. We don’t have many ingredients tonight, so how about we just have some noodles?"

Fu Mingxue was feeling a bit hungry herself.

But she needed to shower first.

With that, she went into the house to find a change of clothes.

Meanwhile, Qin Wenhao put down the luggage and headed to the kitchen.

By the time Fu Mingxue finished her shower and dried her hair, Qin Wenhao was already walking out of the kitchen with the noodles.

"Honey, dinner’s ready."

Fu Mingxue walked right over.

The sight of a huge, steaming bowl of noodles completely whetted her appetite.

"Why three eggs? That’s too many. Two is enough for me."

She said, starting to pick one of the eggs out of her bowl.

Qin Wenhao stopped her just in time. "Honey, I’ve got three in my bowl too. Just eat them!"

"Where did these eggs come from?" After all, they had been away for so long. Eggs wouldn’t last that long.

Besides, on the day she left, she had put all the remaining eggs into her storage space.

Qin Wenhao immediately explained, "I borrowed ten from our neighbor. I’ll go into town tomorrow to buy some to give back to her."

Fu Mingxue didn’t say anything else.

The couple each finished off their huge bowls of noodles.

Once they had eaten their fill, Fu Mingxue finally looked at Qin Wenhao. "Did you get injured on your mission this time?"

Qin Wenhao was delighted by his wife’s concern. "Nope. It was perfectly safe."

Fu Mingxue knew that even if he were injured, he would only say he was fine.

Fortunately, he really didn’t seem to have any injuries.

"Oh, by the way, the New Year is fast approaching. I’m planning to leave for Beijing in five days. What are your plans? Are you coming back to Beijing with me, or staying with the unit?"

As soon as he heard this, Qin Wenhao said, "I’ll go back to Beijing with you. The higher-ups approved a full month of leave for me this time. It’s perfect—our family can spend the New Year in Beijing together."

Fu Mingxue was a little surprised. After all, she recalled that Qin Wenhao had already taken leave recently.

She hadn’t expected he would be able to get such a long vacation this time.

"A month of leave? That really is a long time."

"Yeah. It’s mainly because of this last mission, and there’s nothing much scheduled for me next." He wasn’t needed for the regiment’s training exercises.

"That’s great. In that case, you should buy the train tickets in advance. By the way, I ran into your sister on this trip. She said she’s also going home for the New Year."

After all, his second older sister hadn’t spent the New Year at home in years.
