Zhai Muchen frowned hard when he heard Han Ruochen’s cries. He wondered what had happened to the girl; after all, every time he had met with her, Han Ruochen had been steady on her feet. She did not even cry when she was pushed off the cliff by the thugs hired by her ex-fiancé. So why was she crying now? Though he was confused, he did not like Han Ruochen’s sobbing. He pursed his lips and softly coaxed, "Don’t cry. First, tell me what happened; maybe I will be able to help."
He took a sip of the warm water because at that very moment, he did not know why, but felt really stifled, like something was choking him. He set the cup down on the table and waited for Han Ruochen to respond.
Han Ruochen sniffed a few times before answering, "I...my dad... my dad had an accident." Han Ruochen was still sobbing and could hardly talk, causing her speech to turn intermittent. "How much money do you want to borrow?" Zhai Muchen asked. It seemed like the sum was quite big, or else Han Ruochen would not be flustered like this.
"Twen... twenty-three thousand yuan." Han Ruochen was worried that the man would overthink, so she told the truth to him. She hated her mother and did not want to save her face.
When Zhai Muchen heard the good things that Meng Yunhan had done, he did not know what to say. He had to say that he had seen many characters in his life, but he had never seen one as confused and stupid as Meng Yunhan. No matter what her reasons were, was it worth ruining her family like this? He could not understand her actions.
He said to Han Ruochen, "Go and wait at the hospital. Leave the rest of the matters to me, along with the address of the hospital where your father is admitted." Zhai Muchen did not ask much, as he knew that Han Ruochen was not in any condition to respond to him. He simply promised to send her the money and then discussed the remaining things before ending the call.
Han Ruochen, who had been crying nonstop, was in a daze and felt a bit relieved. She crashed on the floor of the booth when she realised that her problem had been solved and swore to return the money to Zhai Muchen as soon as possible. After all, even if Zhai Muchen came from the Zhai family, their money did not come from the wind.
She paid fifty cents to the phone booth owner and returned to the hospital. As soon as she returned, Meng Yunhan, who had been crying like some kind of dodder flower, got to her feet and grabbed her by the shoulders. "How is it? Were you able to borrow money? How much money did you borrow?"
Meng Yunhan was worried that Han Ruochen would only borrow money for Han Yichen’s surgery and leave the matter of her debt aside. If that happened, then she would be in a lot of trouble.
