Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 774: Turns Out She’s Still Alive
Chapter 774: Chapter 774: Turns Out She’s Still Alive
Annabelle Linton was running out of time. The only choice was to develop an antidote as quickly as possible, while she was still alive.
To put it bluntly, she was going to die anyway. It was better to risk it all. At least that way, she would have tried, and there might be a sliver of hope. If she didn’t even try, she would truly just be waiting for death.
Quentin Holland stood in the office, his thin lips pressed into a hard line. Under the lights, his severe expression looked even more chilling, almost terrifying.
He looked at Simon Moss and asked in an icy voice, "What happened to Annabelle?"
"She tested the drug, our initial prototype. It caused severe side effects, and she had to have her stomach pumped and her bowels cleansed. She seems to be past the worst of it, though. She’s out of danger for now and just needs to rest."
Quentin Holland said nothing, his lips still pursed. His dark, cold eyes stared out into the pitch-black night, his thoughts unreadable.
Simon Moss sighed and finally said, "Quentin, you and I both know the truth about Annabelle’s illness, so I won’t sugarcoat it. There’s really nothing left to be done. Even if there were a solution, we’re out of time. Plus, with her rare blood type, our only option is to experiment on her and Leona Grant."
As the senior members of the team, they had chosen to prioritize Annabelle Linton over Leona Grant.
After a pause, he added, "I’m against using Leona Grant for the experiments. Considering Annabelle’s condition, we’ll probably need extremely rare ingredients. If we end up with only a single dose of the antidote, that silly girl will undoubtedly give it to Leona."
’There were only two outcomes for Annabelle now: life or death.’
’So it was better to experiment directly on her.’
’If it failed, they could at least say they had tried. If, by some miracle, it succeeded, all the better.’
Quentin Holland’s deep, dark eyes remained fixed on the window, his face devoid of expression.
’It wasn’t that an antidote didn’t exist. But he was unwilling to use it unless it was the absolute last resort.’
’Sometimes he wondered...’
’Was this all destined to be?’
...
An unknown amount of time passed before Annabelle Linton slowly opened her eyes.
The first thing that met her eyes was a white ceiling, and the sharp scent of antiseptic filled the air.
Annabelle pushed herself into a sitting position and slowly raised her hands, staring at them.
’So I’m still alive.’
The last thing she remembered was a churning pain in her stomach that grew steadily worse until she couldn’t take it anymore and passed out.
She had been sure she was going to die, but she was still alive.
At this thought, Annabelle hurriedly threw back the covers and tried to get out of bed.
’I’ve tested the prototype, so my mentors must know by now. I need to go record the data to help with the next version.’
Annabelle started to get out of bed, but the moment her feet touched the floor, a sharp pain in her stomach made it impossible for her to stand up straight.
Panting, she braced her hands on the mattress and slowly sat back down, pressing a hand to her stomach to soothe the pain.
Having your stomach pumped and your bowels cleansed was a far more agonizing experience than it sounded.
Annabelle closed her eyes, enduring the waves of pain.
Just as the pain was beginning to subside, the phone on her nightstand rang.
She glanced at the phone, picked it up with some effort, and saw the caller ID: Leona Grant.
Seeing Leona’s name, she took a few deep breaths to steady herself before answering the call.
"Hello." As soon as the call connected, Leona’s urgent voice burst through the speaker. "Annabelle Linton, what took you so long to answer? You didn’t pick up yesterday when I called, either. If your friend hadn’t told me you were asleep, I would have come over to find you."
