Chapter 777: Chapter 777: I Will Try My Best to Live On

In reality, they were both lying to each other.

They were just doing research; the two teams could have easily worked together. But she was afraid that if she stayed in Lynton, Leona Grant would discover that she was also poisoned and then come here to do his research.

As for Leona Grant, he was afraid that if they conducted the research together, he wouldn’t be able to hide it from her if the experiments failed.

She knew this man all too well. If they truly couldn’t find an antidote, he would definitely make arrangements for her, and he would only tell her at the very last moment.

He was always like this. Just as he had said, even if the sky were to fall, he would always be the one to hold it up alone.

It was like this in her past life, and it was still the same in this one.

The thought that they would be separated, that they would die, made Annabelle Linton’s heart ache as if it were being gouged out.

The pain was so intense that even breathing seemed to make her throat ache rawly.

Annabelle Linton clutched her phone, bent over, and began to cry.

She didn’t want to cry, but the tears just wouldn’t stop falling.

Bent over, she desperately tried to suppress her sobs, but she couldn’t hold them back.

Annabelle Linton covered her face and whimpered.

"Annabelle..."

Annabelle Linton was in the middle of crying when Mia Holloway suddenly called out from the doorway. After standing there for a few seconds, she started walking toward her.

The instant she heard the voice, Annabelle Linton quickly turned away to wipe her tears.

Mia Holloway looked at her and immediately burst into tears. She hugged her and said, "Annabelle..."

Annabelle Linton wiped her tears away fiercely and, in turn, tried to comfort her. "Why are you crying? It’s like I’m bullying you or something. Stop crying."

Annabelle Linton said this as if nothing was wrong, but to Mia Holloway’s ears, it was nothing but heartbreaking.

Although Annabelle Linton always appeared calm, gentle, and considerate in front of them, Mia knew that she was actually under immense pressure.

She was sick, yet she did research with them every day. And every time an experiment failed, she was the one who would comfort them instead.

Several times, Mia had seen her crying alone in secret—crying so sadly, so heartbrokenly—only to appear before them moments later as if nothing had happened.

’Honestly, if Annabelle Linton really dies, I feel like my life will lose its light forever. I just can’t accept such a young life being extinguished like this.’

Mia Holloway hugged her and said through her tears, "Annabelle, I know you’re sad. If you want to cry, just let it all out. You don’t have to hold it in. Don’t worry, Quentin and the others and I will definitely cure you. You’re not going to die. Please don’t be sad, okay?"

It would be a lie to say Annabelle Linton wasn’t moved by her words.

She would never forget how much her friends had helped her across her two lifetimes.

In her past life, when she was abroad, she had no one to rely on. It was they who helped her survive in a foreign land.

Now, she was sick, and they were still the ones giving their all for her.

Annabelle Linton truly didn’t know how to describe the place they held in her heart.

She hugged Mia Holloway and said softly, "Mia, don’t worry. I’ll do my best to keep living. Please stop crying."

After she spoke, Annabelle Linton looked up toward the door, where Quentin Holland was standing. She offered a small smile and said, "Quentin, I’ll keep fighting to live."

Quentin Holland looked at her with a complicated expression, not knowing what to say.

After a long moment, he sighed and asked with a deadpan expression, "Annabelle, when you tested the drug, did you ever think about the consequences?"

Hearing this, Annabelle Linton lowered her gaze and fell silent.

After a while, she said in a low, hoarse voice, "I did."
