Chapter 787: Chapter 287: I Don’t Want Leona Grant to Die, and I Don’t Believe I Will Die

A moment later, he came into view.

Annabelle quickly ducked behind the curtains. A moment later, sure enough, he looked back.

The glow of the neon streetlights washed over him, highlighting his tall, imposing figure. He exuded a powerful aura, carrying himself with a heavy grace.

From her vantage point, she could clearly see the flickers of reluctance and worry on his chiseled face.

The truth was, she had already woken up when he was giving her a bath earlier. She’d only pretended to be asleep because she was afraid he wouldn’t leave.

To her surprise, he had even given her medicine before he left.

Annabelle crouched behind the heavy curtains, gazing at him in a daze.

Leona Grant stood downstairs for a long, long time before finally sighing and leaving.

Watching his retreating figure, Annabelle sank to the floor. She hugged her knees and buried her face in them as tears began to fall once more against her will.

’What on earth am I supposed to do?’

’Is there really no other way?’

...

「The next day.」

Annabelle still got up early to go to the lab.

As long as she was alive for these next two months, she wouldn’t waste a single minute or give up a single shred of hope.

Annabelle first changed into a sterile medical gown and underwent a full-body examination.

She should have been examined immediately after the experiment a few days ago, but Leona Grant had shown up unexpectedly, so she never got the chance.

Today, she had to get a thorough examination.

The results came back quickly.

They revealed two critical issues. First, proper rest was essential after the experiment. Because she hadn’t rested, the virus had worsened significantly. Second, she was never supposed to take the symptom-relieving medication post-experiment, as it contained ingredients that reacted negatively with the treatment. But Annabelle had taken a large dose, which was why she had coughed up blood.

Hearing the doctor’s words, Annabelle was silent for a long time.

Quentin Holland looked at her and said in a heavy voice, "This method isn’t working at all. Why don’t we try to find another way? Medicine is so advanced these days; how can there not be a cure? Just give us some more time. We’ll find it. Stop taking such risks."

’But what if we can’t find it?’

’Are we supposed to just wait idly by?’

Annabelle coughed a few times, her brow furrowed as she stared blankly at the floor.

After a long pause, she finally spoke, her voice hoarse. "We’re out of time. The virus in my body is getting worse every day. The way things are going... I might not even make it two months..."

Before she could even finish, she was overcome by a violent coughing fit.

A flicker of worry crossed Quentin Holland’s eyes. He quickly sat beside her, patting her back to help her breathe.

Annabelle struggled to catch her breath, then said weakly, "Quentin, I can’t afford any more wishful thinking. That’s no different from just waiting to die. I don’t want to die. I don’t want Leona Grant to die. And I refuse to believe I *will* die. Honestly, I’d rather die of anything else than from this virus."

Quentin Holland looked at her, at a loss for words. After a moment, he sighed. "Have you thought this through? We developed these drugs based on intuition, nothing more. There was no way to test their safety, and they’re incredibly potent. What if you die from taking one? Wouldn’t it all be for nothing? Why are you so determined to take this risk?"

’It’s not that I’m determined to take this risk. It’s not that at all.’

’The truth is, I have no other choice, do I?’
