Chapter 1271: Chapter 1243: True and False—Who Is Real

"Buy some fruit and go see your mas—uh, Qi... whoever!" Xiaoqiang deliberately mimicked her speaking tone. Qian pushed him playfully, "You’re annoying!"

Yeah, even Xiaoqiang noticed she was being a bit melodramatic about the father-recognition thing, but there was no helping it. She just couldn’t accept the change in identity all at once.

The two of them went back to the hospital again. Yu Minglang knocked on the door. Hearing a call to come in, he entered with a bright smile and some fruit.

"Hey, you, are you feeling better?"

"Hey, you" was lying on the hospital bed, bored, counting the little black dots on the ceiling. Hearing the door open, he immediately sprang up but lay back down disappointed when he saw it was just Xiaoqiang. Proudly, he responded,

"Still alive."

"Oh, honey, he’s still alive, you don’t have to come in!" Yu Minglang yelled towards the hallway outside. Qio Yu Xuan immediately coughed a few times, clutching his chest.

"I might not make it, Yao... bring your master’s medicine... ah, you ungrateful disciple, why aren’t you moving..."

Upon hearing this, Qian rushed in, "Where’s the medicine?"

Nong Yao, for no reason, got the label of ungrateful disciple. Looking at his master putting on a show, he rolled his eyes and pointed at Qian, "The medicine’s here, I’m out!"

He raised his hand, pulling Yu Minglang by the arm, "Come on, we didn’t settle things last time. Let’s go practice a few moves at the restroom door?"

Yu Minglang knew this was to give Qian and Qio Yu Xuan some space to talk alone, so he half-jokingly said,

"Alright, today I’ll beat you until you’re looking for your teeth all over the ground."

"I’ll beat you so hard your own dad wouldn’t recognize you—hey old man, don’t glare at me; I’m talking about him, not your little darling!"

Nong Yao ran off after saying this. Qian was extremely embarrassed and looked to Yu Minglang for help, but Xiaoqiang just gave her a thumbs-up sign and followed suit.

He could help his wife with anything else, but he couldn’t make the decision for her about recognizing her father.

When it was just the two of them left in the room, Qian stood before the bed with her head down, unsure of what to say, while Qio Yu Xuan looked at her with a satisfied expression.

The fact that this child could come over meant she already had a living sense in her heart, at least a click towards him, and that was enough.

"What’s really going on with your illness?"

"Sit down, don’t just stand there!"

Both spoke at the same time, concerned about each other. Qian blushed, thinking it was no wonder Xiaoqiang mocked her for being pretentious—she, too, was not used to this side of herself.

She pulled over a chair and sat a fair distance away from Qio Yu Xuan, cleared her throat, and asked again,

"Tell me, what’s really going on with your illness?" She wanted to ask if it was serious and treatable, but Qio Yu Xuan hit her with a shocking revelation.

"This hospital stay is a lie, I deceived you."

"...You deceived me?" Qian felt as though a bucket of cold water had been dumped over her head.

"Yes, these facial expressions, this abnormal heartbeat, it’s all fake. I just wanted an opportunity to meet you. You know your third brother specializes in medicine; he concocted all these things."

Qian’s face began to turn ugly, "You’re playing with me?!"

Then what was all her internal struggle for? She felt like a fool!

"I just wanted you to understand that in certain environments, one’s feelings can be amplified or diminished. What you think can never be forgiven, after comparison, appears less important."

Betrayed!

The word "amplified" echoed in Qian’s mind, making her face redden with anger, though she restrained herself.

"Since I already believed it, why tell me the truth?"

"My goal was for you to experience this process and learn to choose, to be less conflicted and more carefree. Once the goal was achieved, there was no need to hide the process from you anymore. Don’t you hate being lied to the most?"

Qian looked around. Where were the fruits Xiaoqiang had brought? Wouldn’t it be better to smash them in this guy’s face? With the nerve to deceive and yet justify?

"What you’re doing right now is exactly what I hate!" she scolded.

"If I didn’t tell you the truth, you’d hate me even more. I really don’t know how to approach you, and you’re so smart you’ve probably already found clues. If I didn’t do this, the results of you finding out yourself would be even more severe, so it’s better if I reveal this truth."

Qian took a deep breath, reminding herself that it’s not good for a pregnant woman to get too angry, and it took a while to calm herself down.

"Qi, give me an explanation I can accept. What’s going on between you and my mom? Why approach me? Why did you abandon my mom and me back then? In those days, extramarital affairs that resulted in other children could be disastrous if discovered—did you think about our fate?"

She was fuming inside, holding back the impulse to storm out, just waiting for an answer. Maybe somewhere in her heart, Qian still hoped this guy would say something to pacify her, but he didn’t.

"It’s better if you don’t intervene in matters between your mother and me. What you need to know is one thing: you are my daughter. I approached you purely out of love for my child. Abandoning you back then was a last resort; I can’t tell you the reason. As for your final question, it doesn’t apply; I had already manipulated your mother’s memories, so no one can find out your secret."

He answered all this in one breath, but Qian’s anger didn’t diminish. It was as if he hadn’t said anything at all.

"Your lies are too many. From approaching me, you’ve been inventing identities and faking illness to deceive me. How much of what you just said is true, and how much is false?"

Qio Yu Xuan was a mix of truth and lies, not following any script. It was only a moment ago that Qian completely believed he was sick. If he had made even a little more effort, Qian would have acknowledged him as her father, but he didn’t!

Suddenly, he revealed the deception. Such unconventional actions left Qian unable to grasp his intentions, not knowing what this guy was truly up to.

Being deceived so many times left her skeptical. Whatever he said, Qian didn’t believe it.

"I swear to the heavens, every word I just said is true. You are my daughter, and I couldn’t bear to leave you. There was an unspeakable reason I had to give you up back then."

"Ha... so around and around you go, all you can say is ’last resort.’ Your ’last resort’ led to my skewed life for so many years, and now you expect forgiveness with ’last resort’? Not a chance!" Qian felt the disgrace of being thoroughly deceived. This old man deeply understood human psychology and played her like a puppet.

"I never expected you to forgive me. I now just want to complete what I need to do in the little life I have left." As Qio Yu Xuan said this, his face turned pale. He pointed at the cabinet.

"Can you help me get the medicine?"

Seeing this, Qian thought he was once again up to his old tricks. Furious, she walked over, yanked open the cabinet door, and was speechless at the row of medicines inside.
