"The result is the same," Lucian said. "We can’t trust them. Any of them. The second branch wants to use you to break a curse you didn’t create. And if you refuse...or if you fail...they’ll eliminate you to protect themselves."

"Maybe," Lilith said. "Or maybe some of them genuinely want to help. Maybe there are factions within the second branch who see value in alliance instead of conflict."

"You’re being naive," Sebastian said.

The word hit like a slap.

Lilith felt something hot and sharp flare in her chest. "Excuse me?"

"Naive," Sebastian repeated. "You’re looking for the best in people who have made it very clear they see you as either a tool or a threat. That’s dangerous, Lilith. That’s how you get manipulated or killed."

"I’m not naive," Lilith said. Her voice was cold now. "I’m trying to be strategic. Trying to consider all our options instead of just rejecting everything out of fear."

"Fear?" Lucian’s eyes flashed. "You think we’re afraid?"

"I think you’re overprotective," Lilith said. "I think you’re so terrified of losing someone else after Nicholas that you’re trying to wrap me in cotton and keep me locked away from anything that might be remotely dangerous."

"That’s not fair...." Sebastian started.

"Isn’t it?" Lilith interrupted. She stood up from her chair. "Every decision we make, you two decide for me. Where I go. Who I talk to. What alliances I consider. You don’t ask my opinion. You don’t give me choices. You just tell me what we’re doing and expect me to agree."

"Because we’re trying to keep you alive!" Lucian shouted. "Because every faction in the supernatural world wants to either use you or kill you! Because we just lost Nicholas and we can’t...we won’t.....lose you too!"

"I’m not yours to lose!" Lilith shouted back. "I’m a person! Not a possession! Not something you get to control because you’re afraid!"

"We’re not trying to control you...." Sebastian said.

"Yes you are!" Lilith’s magic surged. Dual forces blazing. Plants erupting through the library floor. Books on nearby shelves aging and crumbling to dust. "You’re suffocating me! Every time I try to make a decision, you override it! Every time I express an opinion, you tell me I’m wrong! You don’t see me as an equal partner in this....you see me as something fragile that needs constant protection!"

"Because you do need protection!" Sebastian said. His own power flaring. Alpha dominance radiating from him in waves. "You’re carrying power you barely understand! You’re bound by a covenant to a dark witch! You have covens and councils and family branches all mobilizing around you! You think we’re being overprotective? We’re being realistic!"

"Realistic would be teaching me to protect myself instead of trying to lock me away!" Lilith said.

"We are teaching you!" Lucian said. "Elena and Victoria have been training you for days! You’re getting stronger! But Lilith....that doesn’t mean you’re ready to make political alliances with vampires who openly admit some of their faction wants you dead!"

"So what’s your solution?" Lilith demanded. "I just stay here? Hide on Blackwood territory forever? Never talk to anyone outside the pack? Never consider options that might actually help us?"

"Our solution is you trust us to handle the political maneuvering while you focus on training!" Sebastian said. "You get stronger. You master your power. And we deal with the threats!"

"You want me to be a weapon you can point at problems!" Lilith said. "Not a person with agency and choices!"

"We want you alive!" Sebastian roared. "We want you safe! We want...."

His voice broke. He turned away. His shoulders shaking.

When he spoke again, his voice was quiet. Devastated.

"We just buried Nicholas three days ago," Sebastian said. "We stood at that cairn and said goodbye to our brother. The person we’ve been with since before we were born. And Lilith....we can’t do that again. We can’t bury another person we love. So yes, we’re being overprotective. Yes, we’re making decisions without asking you first. Because the alternative is risking you and we can’t....I can’t...."

He stopped. Unable to finish.

Lilith felt her anger falter. Guilt crashing in to replace it.

"Sebastian...." she started.

"You want to know what I think about Dorian’s offer?" Lucian asked. His voice was sharp. Hard. "I think it’s another trap. Another group of people who want to use you for their own purposes. And I think accepting help from them makes you vulnerable to manipulation we can’t protect you from."

"So your answer is just refuse everything?" Lilith asked. "Reject every possible alliance because it might be dangerous?"

"Yes," Lucian said flatly. "Until we know for certain who we can trust....we trust no one except the people in this room."

"That’s not sustainable," Elena said quietly. She had been silent until now. Watching the argument unfold. "Isolating ourselves completely means we face every threat alone. We don’t have the resources for that."

"We have pack strength," Sebastian said.

"Pack strength isn’t enough against coordinated supernatural factions," Victoria said. "The covens. The councils. The second branch. Demons. All of them mobilizing. We need allies, Sebastian. Whether we like it or not."

"Then we find allies we can trust!" Sebastian said. "Not vampires with divided loyalties and family members who want Lilith dead!"

"Where?" Lilith demanded. "Where do we find these perfect allies? Everyone who approaches us has ulterior motives! Everyone wants something! That’s how politics works! We don’t get the luxury of only allying with people who have pure intentions!"

"Then we don’t ally with anyone!" Lucian said.

"That’s suicide!" Lilith shouted.

Her magic exploded.

Not directed. Not controlled. Just pure emotional overload manifesting as raw power.

The library shook. Windows shattered. Shelves collapsed. Books flew off surfaces and slammed into walls.

Green and black light blazed from Lilith’s skin. Plants growing. Wood decaying. Dual forces destroying everything in reach.

"Lilith!" Victoria moved forward. Hands glowing. Trying to calm the surge.
