Chapter 852: Chapter 849 Standoff

In Yalin City, Second Prince Greena sat in his castle with a splitting headache. Beside him, the Red Overseer stood quietly, her eyes half-closed.

"Lucia is trying to grind us to death," Greena rubbed his temples, his eyes filled with exhaustion and gloom.

Over the past few days, Lucia had sent troops to attack the city three times. Each time was merely harassment; it was obvious he simply didn’t want to give Greena a moment of peace.

Yet, they couldn’t afford to ignore it. If the enemy ever attacked for real, they would be in massive trouble.

"If we ration the grain we transported back last time, holding out for four months will be no problem," The Red Overseer opened her eyes and stated calmly.

The knight squads dispatched to requisition grain from other cities had returned two days ago. The amount of grain they brought back wasn’t small, but to feed the entire city’s population, it would only last for four months. Any longer was highly improbable.

"Four months," Greena’s vision went slightly dark. They could only hold out for four months. There were still six months until winter. If they held out for four months, what were they going to do about the last two months?

He knew that as long as they could hold out until winter, Lucia would be unable to do anything to him and would be forced to call a truce. The problem was, they couldn’t last until winter arrived.

If they continued this war of attrition with Lucia, the one who would ultimately collapse was him. The First Prince had the backing of the Siacan Kingdom, while he currently only had Yalin City.

For the first time, Greena felt that the idea proposed by the Head Knight was an incredibly terrible one. But for now, there seemed to be no other option.

"I hope your Black Iris organization can dispatch personnel to assist us," Greena’s eyes narrowed slightly as he turned to look at the Red Overseer.

"..." The Red Overseer frowned. After thinking for a moment, she said deeply, "I will notify the organization. As for how many people the organization will send, that will depend entirely on your value, Second Prince."

Greena’s face darkened, a trace of panic rising in his heart. They were close to abandoning him. If he lost this war against the First Prince, there was no doubt he would be discarded by them.

"Hmph! Currently, only if I ascend the throne will you be able to reap benefits. Are you going to place your hopes on someone else? Lucy or Lucia?" Greena snorted coldly.

The Red Overseer’s brow furrowed. She knew Greena was right. Lucy was out of the question; although she was a Princess, she lacked the influential rallying power of a Prince.

And Lucia went without saying. The other party had the backing of that mysterious Luminous Creed and had no need for the Black Iris organization whatsoever.

Bong, bong, bong...

Suddenly, the bell signaling an attack rang out from outside.

"Your Highness, the First Prince has brought troops to attack the city!" A knight rushed into the room, reporting in a panic.

"Damn it, again!" Greena furiously slapped the armrest and stood up abruptly.

"Did Lucia come personally?" The Red Overseer frowned, looking at the knight.

"Y-yes, sir," The knight replied.

"What did he say?" The Red Overseer glanced at Greena and pressed further.

"This subordinate dares not say..." The knight lowered his head.

"Speak!" Greena’s face darkened as he barked.

"The First Prince said... for Your Highness to come out... and die." After finishing, the knight immediately dropped his head, not daring to meet Greena’s eyes.

"Damn it! Get out of my sight!" Greena’s expression contorted as he roared in anger. He kicked the knight directly in the chest, then stormed out of the castle aggressively. He was going to go meet his so-called eldest brother.

"..." The Red Overseer coldly watched Greena’s retreating back, cast a casual glance at the knight kneeling on the floor, and then stepped forward to follow.

One thousand meters outside Yalin City, First Prince Lucia was issuing a challenge, accompanied by three thousand knights.

"Surrender, or die!" Knights shouted out.

The First Prince sat on his warhorse, his eyes locked onto the walls of Yalin City. They were already lined with men holding longbows, aiming directly at him.

However, from this distance, the arrows wouldn’t reach them.

"It seems the Second Prince is going to fight to the bitter end," Deacon No. 3 sneered from the side. This time, it wasn’t just the First Prince; Daniel and Benson had also come.

"He won’t last long. Four months at most," Benson said deeply.

A few days ago, when they went to recapture the surrounding cities, they discovered that the Second Prince’s men had arrived a day or two earlier and plundered all the grain in the cities. It was then that Benson deduced the Second Prince’s plan.

"Then we’ll drag them out for four months. Besiege but do not attack. Harass them constantly so they can’t rest peacefully. After four months, we can easily capture the Second Prince," Deacon No. 3 said coldly.

"That’s the Second Prince, right?" Daniel suddenly pointed at a figure that appeared on the walls of Yalin City.

"Hehe, my dear younger brother has finally shown his face," Lucia said, guiding his warhorse slowly forward.

"Follow him," Benson frowned and ordered.

All the knights began moving forward, raising their large shields to protect the First Prince in the center, coming to a halt seven hundred meters away from the city wall.

"My dear younger brother, surrender. I can guarantee you won’t die," Lucia shouted loudly at Greena on the city wall, a trace of murderous intent in the depths of his eyes.

On the city wall, Greena’s face was grim. Looking at Lucia, who was protected within the formation of knights, he shouted back coldly, "Hmph! Who wins or loses is still unknown!"

"You are too arrogant," Lucia said. He was not going to lose this war.

He shouted indifferently, "We can hold a noble’s duel to decide the victor."

Greena was just about to agree when the Red Overseer grabbed him, shouting in a low voice, "Do not fall into his trap!"

"Urgh..." Greena calmed down, feeling a wave of lingering fear. He knew exactly how much strength he possessed. Even if he fought the First Prince, there was no chance he would return alive.

"What’s wrong, Greena? Are you scared?" Lucia continued to shout his challenge.

On the city wall, the Red Overseer’s heart sank. This First Prince was far more calculating than the Second Prince. In terms of scheming, Greena was purely garbage. Winning this war would probably be harder than ascending to the heavens for the Second Prince.

"First Prince, there is no need to resort to such childish goading tactics. These are tricks played by petty nobles," The Red Overseer replied coldly.

She had to respond; otherwise, they would have lost the battle before it even began, and the knights’ fighting spirit would be severely affected.

"Hmph! Greena, you finally have someone useful by your side," Lucia smirked.

Greena’s face darkened. Not just him—all the people who had evacuated the capital with the Second Prince looked very unhappy. Was he indirectly calling all of them useless?
