Chapter 2382: Death Butterfly
Chapter 2382: Chapter 2382: Death Butterfly
Although he recognized Shard, John Flynn still looked suspiciously at the other four somewhat strange ladies following Shard, curious if they were also Vampire Kind.
At this moment, the enemy faced by John Flynn’s squad was also not unfamiliar to Shard. The Thirteen-Ring Sorcerer "Light Chaser" stood at the center of the bridge entrance and casually threw out a barrage of Light Bullets, which already overwhelmed the four members of the New World Mutual Aid Society.
The only reason John Flynn and his team could hold on was probably that the opponent had no intention of seriously engaging them.
The white mist on Moon Bay Bridge was denser than in other places, as if something else was hidden behind the Light Chaser.
He also noticed the group of people approaching through the mist. Upon seeing Shard, he frowned, recalling Shard and Miss Eles from the Elf Hero Ruins at the foot of Vulture Mountain before waving his hand to stop the barrage of Light Bullets.
Only then did John Flynn and his team have a chance to catch their breath. He turned his head and nodded at Shard in greeting, then sensibly led his three teammates aside, allowing Shard and his group to face the Light Chaser directly.
The latter, of course, remembered last time being suppressed by Miss Eles’s Maze Lock, that eerie Lightless Sea. His expression became serious. Seeing Shard at the center of the group, he also understood that Shard was the leader among these beautiful women.
Of course, he didn’t yet recognize Sister Delphine. It’s not that he didn’t know about the famous Chosen by Death, but the Nun herself used Illusion Technique to conceal her iconic appearance and attire.
"If I’m not mistaken, the Dragonborn behind you last time joined those mad women from the Witch Council to besiege me, so are you a woman too? No, it doesn’t matter, I only have one question, are you a God Summoner?"
The Light Chaser leaned on his staff and asked, but he didn’t expect Shard to answer:
"Alright, that’s not important either. How about we make a trade?
You give me the Higgs Dragonhead Stone, and I’ll leave immediately, and I can also tell you a secret... a very important secret."
Shard raised an eyebrow:
"Isn’t the big affair here something you caused? But I have a question too, we have so many people here, why don’t we just kill you and then walk past?"
The Light Chaser calmly responded:
"Because this isn’t the real world, I can use any power here. This bridge has been set up with a ritual, and I can use my Sublimation Incantation at any time. If you truly are a God Summoner, even if you’re the strongest among the Thirteen Rings, without summoning a God, how would you defeat me? I believe you also have a way to forcibly initiate the Sublimation Incantation, but is it necessary?"
His eyes swept over the hazy faces of the women around Shard:
"Higgs Dragonhead Stone in exchange for my information and my departure, it’s that simple."
"Are you telling me explicitly that the Higgs Dragonhead Stone is related to the Chosen One Ceremony?"
Shard retorted, pausing before asking again:
"Would the Chosen One Ceremony require the Ancient Dragon Transformation Stone synthesized from the Higgs Dragonhead Stone and the Hafana Dragon Body Stone?"
The Thirteen-Ring Sorcerer lifted his staff with his hand wearing a Gold Ring and struck the bridge surface. Behind him, the Steam Mist combined with the dense, cold, glowing white mist, and the Thirteen-Ring Life Ring appeared completely:
"You really are a God Summoner."
"I’m curious what led you to that conclusion, but I’m sorry, whether I am or not, I think you can’t take that stone from me."
An instant of light nearly swallowed Shard’s figure, and the light piercing the bridge entrance seemed like a Dragon’s Breath spewing from Moon Bay Bridge itself.
The light penetrated the white mist, causing the glowing fog itself to roll and flow. But the next moment, Miss Sylvie held Miss Eles’s hand and appeared to the Light Chaser’s left, where Miss Eles opened her mouth and breathed out a Dragon’s Breath at him.
The blazing flame penetrated his body, and the optical illusion-constructed figure disintegrated into Light Particles and disappeared. Meanwhile, above the newly completed Moon Bay Bridge, behind him suspended the Thirteen-Ring Life Ring, as the five Spirit Runes behind the Light Chaser were lit one by one.
At the moment the ritual markings carved on the bottom and sides of the bridge were illuminated, he shouted loudly:
"Beyond the Mad Mountains, Giant of Light..."
The melodious sound of a flute echoed from the depths of the thick fog. The Light Chaser, on the brink of completing the "Sublimation Incantation," suddenly widened his eyes and forcibly gave up the spell-casting at the last moment, turning into a beam of light falling toward the ground.
Almost at the same time as his disappearance, Grace’s pale hand tore through the space to appear at the spot he had just vacated. Upon seeing the enemy escape, a slightly cute "tsk~" sound came from behind the space rift, and then Grace’s hand retracted back behind the rift.
The dense fog swirled around the inside and outside of Moon Bay Bridge. The Light Chaser, having re-descended onto the upper deck of the bridge, looked solemnly at the hand-holding, red-glowing twin girls approaching her through the fog, though their detailed appearances were obscured. Then, she looked behind her, noticing a woman approaching while holding a scythe with the blade facing downward in her left hand.
Unknowingly, the fog around was now full of bizarre glowing red butterflies. Frost quietly spread along the ground, and although the gray-white world was already exceptionally chilling, the cold the Light Chaser felt at this moment seeped into his very soul.
John Flynn and his four companions had retreated beyond the entrance of Moon Bay Bridge, so they certainly didn’t witness this scene. Meanwhile, the hand-holding figures of Grace and Helen suddenly vanished into the dense fog, prompting the Light Chaser to vomit a mouthful of blood forward.
He quickly transformed his body back into a form of light, but before completing the transformation, parts of his blood and flesh had already turned into blood-stained red butterflies flitting in all directions. His flesh, spirit, and even soul were morphing toward forms of necromancy and butterflies under the eerie power of the Relic.
The light-transformed Light Chaser did not turn himself into a giant as in previous attempts; instead, the glowing humanoid figure abruptly expanded, resembling a Steam Bomb explosion on the bridge deck, with his radiating glimmer spreading outward. Yet before the explosion’s power manifested, the swirling Red Butterfly Group enveloped the glowing mass, forcibly confining it within the dense flock of red butterflies.
A flash of black light sliced through as Sister Delphine brought down her black scythe, precisely splitting the Red Butterfly Group and the white light within into two perfectly equal parts.
The two streams of light dashed toward the left and right sides of the bridge, respectively. However, the portion on the left was soon entirely assimilated into part of the red butterflies, while the right-side light barely broke free from the butterfly confinement, shooting directly into the sky.
Miss Sylvia appeared suddenly beside Sister Delphine, grabbed her left hand, and with a sharp explosive sound, both appeared in the sky, causing the black scythe to once more accurately slice through the escaping stream of light.
The light was divided again, with the severed small portion transforming into a jacket and a notebook, falling to the bridge deck, while most continued fleeing into the depths of the fog.
Grace and Helen, controlling the endless red butterflies, wanted to give chase, but a smaller, grain-sized speck of light fell from the fleeing white light.
The two sisters hiding in the fog beside Shard were startled, and the pervasive red butterflies immediately vanished into the fog. Noticing this as well, Shard was about to pull out the "Calamity Card: Shadow of the Deep" to unleash Dark Magic but at that moment, Sister Delphine swung the Dark Gold Scythe formed from her own Ring of Fate upward, striking beneath that light particle.
The black trail left by the scythe in the fog even diminished the surrounding white fog’s density. And as the scythe passed through the light particle, the glow was directly annihilated.
"The power of death and destruction."
Miss Eles, well-versed in such matters, remarked behind Shard. By the time they looked up to find the fleeing light, it had already vanished.
Now, everyone stood on the upper deck of Moon Bay Bridge. Miss Sylvia, pulling Sister Delphine through the fog, returned by their side. Of course, she also held the jacket and the notebook that had fallen from the sky:
"Doesn’t it seem like the Light Chaser deliberately left these for us? Although the red butterflies are strong, isn’t it abnormal for them to be defeated so easily?"
The Grand Witch of Space muttered while handing over the two items to Shard.
The Countess, the weakest in combat among the group, finally breathed a sigh of relief:
"What the Light Chaser just dropped is indeed that unusual glow capable of assimilating everything. It seems the Light Worshipper Training Association truly has mastered controlling this twisted power. It turns out that besides the power of the Earth used by the Knight and Dark Magic, pure death can also annihilate such glow."
She softly concluded, but suddenly noticed the hand-holding twin sisters standing nearby and pursed her lips, not daring to speak further.
She, more than anyone, could keenly sense just how terrifying the seemingly normal sisters truly were.
Grace in a white dress, Helen in a black one, their legs wrapped in stockings matching their dress colors, wore small black buttoned leather shoes. Summoned by the Butterfly Summoning Flute, the sisters turned to Shard, smiling as they held his hands, one on each side:
"Sir, honestly, how did you end up on the edge of life and death again?"
The sisters spoke in Delarion with a Midshire Fort accent, understood by everyone present. Miss Sylvia and Sister Delphine were familiar with them, so their faces showed no odd expressions; the Blue Dragon Lady adjusted her daily-worn large hat adorned with anchor embellishments, casting a peculiar glance at Shard.
Only the Countess, who had heard tales from other witches but had seldom seen the sisters herself, pointed at Shard in surprise:
"Wait a minute, you’re not really with them, are you...?"
