Chapter 476: Chapter 475: Deep Adaptation

"So? Are you signing or not?"

The Gloom Hatchling hesitated for three seconds before struggling out of Luna Jacobs’s arms. It pattered over to Seraphina Sinclair on its short legs, tilted its head up, and gave her a look that said, ’I’m only doing this for your sake.’

Seraphina Sinclair reached out and patted its head.

"Good."

The blood-colored rune on the Sheepskin Scroll suddenly flashed, as if it had sensed something.

The next second, Seraphina Sinclair clearly felt another presence besides Luna Jacobs.

It was the Gloom Hatchling!

This stinking dragon that slept all day, slacked off during fights, and was the first to flee at the sign of danger... Seraphina Sinclair could finally exploit it to her heart’s content!

Extremely satisfied, Seraphina Sinclair didn’t even spare the Gloom Hatchling a glance as she went back to examining the other items in the A-level Supply Box.

As for the poor Gloom Hatchling, it still hadn’t figured out what was going on, nor did it know what had just happened.

It squatted on the spot, tilting its head, its vertical pupils filled with confusion.

The Gloom Hatchling glanced at Seraphina Sinclair’s back, then looked down at its own claws. Before it could make sense of anything, its tail swished impatiently behind it.

Obeying its instincts, it leaped back into Luna Jacobs’s arms and went back to snuggling against her face.

The second item in the A-level Supply Box was a piece of dark silver metal. Patterns resembling auspicious clouds slowly swirled across its surface, making it look less like an inanimate object.

Seraphina Sinclair reached out and picked it up.

It was heavier than she expected and bone-chillingly cold to the touch. After using Insight, the system’s information immediately appeared:

[Star Meteorite Iron (A-level)]

[Description: A metal fabled to have fallen from the stars, its surface shimmers with a faint, silvery light. Its texture is incredibly hard, yet surprisingly light, making it an excellent material for crafting armor.]

[Note: The stars shattered and fell to the earth, becoming this. When you hold it in your hand, you might hear a distant roar—the sound of its arrival.]

’An excellent material for crafting armor?’

Seraphina Sinclair made a mental note to ask Little Mushroom about it the next time it visited.

After carefully putting away the Star Meteorite Iron, Seraphina Sinclair’s gaze fell on the last item.

[Dawn (A-level)]

[Description: A jet-black dagger with a long, slender blade. Dark Gold patterns flow faintly along its length under the light, like molten lava. The hilt is inlaid with an unknown Blood-colored Crystal Stone, which is warm to the touch and seems to pulse like a heartbeat.]

[Note: The darkness is deepest just before the dawn, and it was born in that moment. When you hold it, it will tell you—some beings are destined never to see the sun.]

The moment Seraphina Sinclair’s fingers touched the dagger, the Dark Gold patterns on the blade suddenly lit up, as if a slumbering presence had been awakened.

A wave of warmth emanated from the Blood-colored Crystal Stone on the hilt, surging from her palm into her veins and bringing with it a strange sense of agitation.

Seraphina Sinclair only glanced at the dagger’s traits. After all, her preferred weapon was a long blade, and she already had an S-Class one. No matter how she looked at it, this dagger seemed like a spare item for her.

However...

Seraphina Sinclair’s gaze fell upon Luna Jacobs.

She was a puppet now. Although she had self-awareness, she completely followed Seraphina Sinclair’s orders.

’If I give this dagger to her, then the daily tasks of moving the cabin and killing the monsters that get inside...’

’Couldn’t she be the one to do it?’

’Even if Luna Jacobs runs into a monster she can’t beat, isn’t there still the Gloom Hatchling?’

The Gloom Hatchling of today was not the same as before.

With a command from Seraphina Sinclair, how could it dare to disobey?

The more Seraphina Sinclair thought about it, the more feasible it seemed.

The monsters that appeared while moving weren’t strong, but the problem was that the battles dragged on for too long, consuming too much time.

She used to do it all herself, but things were different now.

She had a puppet and a contracted dragon, so why should she have to step up personally? What kind of boss needs to do their own dirty work?

"Luna Jacobs." Seraphina Sinclair held out Dawn.

Luna Jacobs reached out and took it with a smooth, natural motion. The instant her fingertips touched the hilt, the Blood-colored Crystal Stone flared to life.

It flickered, brightening and dimming, like a beating heart.

With each flash, Dark Gold patterns spread up Luna Jacobs’s wrist, as if something living was swimming through her veins.

Luna Jacobs looked down at her arm, a rare hint of confusion appearing on her face.

"What is this?"

She raised her other hand and lightly touched the spreading patterns. They were warm and carried a faint pulse.

It wasn’t her own pulse.

As a puppet, she hadn’t had a heartbeat for a long time. This was... the pulse of the dagger.

Seraphina Sinclair narrowed her eyes and activated Insight.

[Dawn · Gloom-Eater (Deep Resonance)]

[Current Wielder: Luna Jacobs (Puppet Body)]

[Resonance Effect: The Puppet Body has achieved a deep resonance with Dawn. After killing a target, the duration of the undetectable state is extended to 300 seconds and can be shared with the contractor.]

’Something like this can happen?’

Seraphina Sinclair immediately took out her Moon-Tracking Blade. She used Insight on the long blade several times, but she never saw the two words she was looking for: "Deep Resonance."

Seraphina Sinclair: "..."

She was genuinely a little hurt.

She had gotten a C-level Polishing Knife from a Supply Box, and it turned out Luna Jacobs was an Engraving Master who could use it.

Then she got an A-level dagger from another Supply Box, and not only was Luna Jacobs skilled with daggers, but this one even had a deep resonance with her puppet body, making its effects even stronger!

But thinking about it from another angle, Luna Jacobs had used all the Polishing Knives to improve Seraphina Sinclair’s blueprints.

The resonance effect of this dagger could also benefit Seraphina Sinclair.

Besides, the stronger Luna Jacobs became, the stronger Seraphina Sinclair’s support would be, right?

Once Seraphina Sinclair thought of it that way, that little bit of imbalance in her heart immediately vanished.

’That’s right.’

’No matter how strong Luna Jacobs gets, she’s still my puppet.’

’Besides, a puppet body counts as a special Constitution.’

’If she had to give something up to achieve deep resonance with the Moon-Tracking Blade, Seraphina Sinclair would rather not have it.’

She briefly explained her thoughts to Luna Jacobs.

When she heard the plan for handling truly strong enemies and the Gloom Hatchling, Luna Jacobs was visibly relieved.

"Then it’s settled."

Seraphina Sinclair clapped her hands, making the final decision. "Starting today, the daily moving is your responsibility. If you run into something you can’t handle, call the Gloom Hatchling. If the Gloom Hatchling can’t handle it either—"

She paused, a cryptic smile playing on her lips. "Then have it stall them until I get back."

Luna Jacobs nodded, her hand tightening slightly around Dawn, still seeming to attune herself to the new weapon.

Seraphina Sinclair didn’t disturb her and went back to opening her Supply Boxes.

There were still two B-level ones left.

They weren’t as good as A-level, but they weren’t bad either.

Seraphina Sinclair turned and walked toward the two remaining B-level Supply Boxes, feeling quite pleased with herself.

One on her left and one on her right, they were stacked neatly. The patterns on their surfaces were simpler than those on the A-level box, but they still gave off a faint glow, clearly indicating they were no ordinary items.

She opened the box on the left first.
