Chapter 51: The Beginning of the True Trial

The battlefield remained silent for several moments after the Weapon Grandmaster disappeared.

Subin stood alone beneath the dark blue sky, Simple Edge resting naturally in his hand.

The number on the system panel remained unchanged.

[Weapon Battlefield Progress: 27/100.]

Seventy-three masters remained.

Yet Subin no longer looked at that number as a simple count.

The battle against the Grandmaster had changed his understanding of the trial.

Until now, he had thought of each opponent as something to defeat and analyze. But the Grandmaster had forced him to recognize a deeper truth.

Combat wasn't divided into techniques.

It was divided into decisions.

Every weapon, every movement, every stance and every attack existed because the wielder had chosen a particular response to a particular situation.

The stronger the opponent, the fewer unnecessary decisions they made.

Subin closed his eyes.

He replayed the final battle.

The bow.

The spear.

The chain.

The axe.

The sword.

The transitions.

Then his own final attack.

It hadn't been the strongest attack he knew.

It hadn't even been a technique.

It had simply been the movement he had chosen.

That realization settled quietly inside his Sword God Foundation.

[Sword God Foundation: 90%.]

The number remained stable.

But Subin could feel the difference.

The foundation was no longer simply storing sword techniques.

It was beginning to organize his understanding of them.

He opened his eyes.

"Let's continue."

The battlefield responded.

The ground trembled.

The mountains became taller.

The river widened.

The forest grew denser.

The floating platforms moved farther apart.

Then the next group appeared.

Ten figures.

But this time, Subin immediately noticed something unusual.

They weren't standing separately.

They were positioned across the entire battlefield.

One stood on the mountain.

Another stood inside the forest.

Three were positioned around the river.

Two stood on floating platforms.

Three remained near the central plain.

Their levels ranged from Level 55 to Level 58.

The system appeared.

[Weapon Battlefield — Advanced Stage.]

[Progress: 27/100.]

[Opponents: 10.]

[Special Condition: Environmental Coordination.]

[Warning: Opponents will not engage individually.]

Subin's expression became serious.

"So we're changing the rules."

The ten masters attacked simultaneously.

An arrow came from the mountain.

Subin moved.

A spear emerged from the forest.

He redirected it.

A chain came from the river.

He jumped.

A hammer struck the ground.

The shockwave spread beneath his feet.

Subin activated Fang Step.

He crossed several meters in an instant.

A sword appeared in front of him.

He blocked.

The projection immediately transitioned into a short blade.

Subin stepped back.

A second sword attacked from behind.

He turned.

Simple Edge stopped the blade.

Two opponents.

Then three.

The battlefield had become chaotic.

But Subin didn't panic.

He had already experienced formation combat.

What made this different was the terrain.

The enemies weren't merely coordinating their weapons.

They were coordinating the environment.

The archer forced him toward the forest.

The chain master controlled the entrance.

The spear master waited inside.

The swordsman controlled the center.

The hammer master prevented him from remaining still.

The entire battlefield was being used against him.

Subin moved toward the mountain.

The archer immediately fired.

He changed direction.

The arrow followed.

Subin cut it.

Another arrow came.

He stepped behind a tree.

The arrow struck the trunk.

Subin used the brief obstruction to accelerate toward the archer.

A spear suddenly appeared between them.

Subin blocked.

The spear master pushed him backward.

The archer fired again.

Subin moved sideways.

A chain wrapped around the tree behind him.

The chain master pulled.

The tree cracked.

Subin realized they were attempting to restrict his movement rather than kill him directly.

He smiled.

"They're learning too."

He suddenly stopped retreating.

The spear came toward his chest.

Subin stepped forward.

The spear passed beside him.

Simple Edge moved.

The spear master blocked.

Subin didn't continue the attack.

Instead, he stepped around the projection.

The archer fired.

The spear master was directly between them.

The arrow struck the spear master's shoulder.

The projection didn't disappear, but its formation broke.

Subin used the opportunity.

One slash.

[Weapon Master 28/100 defeated.]

The remaining masters immediately adjusted.

Subin's eyes narrowed.

Their coordination was improving.

He moved toward the river.

The chain master attacked.

Subin stepped backward.

The chain followed.

He jumped onto a stone.

The chain wrapped around it.

Subin cut the chain.

The weapon reformed.

The chain master pulled.

The stone moved.

Subin understood.

The chain wasn't targeting him.

It was targeting his footing.

He jumped.

A spear thrust upward.

Subin twisted in midair.

Simple Edge struck the spear aside.

He landed behind the spear master.

One cut.

[Weapon Master 29/100 defeated.]

Two opponents gone.

But the remaining eight immediately changed formation.

The shield warrior moved toward the center.

The hammer master moved behind it.

The swordsman moved to the left.

The dual-blade master moved right.

The staff master remained behind them.

The archer climbed higher.

A new weapon master appeared on the floating platform.

A halberd.

Subin looked upward.

"Eight."

Then the system corrected him.

[Current active opponents: 9.]

Subin glanced at the far side of the battlefield.

A figure he hadn't noticed before stepped out from the forest.

A massive axe rested in its hand.

Level 58.

Subin smiled.

"So that's how this stage works."

The trial wasn't simply spawning ten opponents at once.

It was hiding their positions within the environment.

The axe master charged.

Subin moved.

The sword master attacked simultaneously.

Subin blocked the sword.

The axe came from the side.

He jumped.

The staff struck him in midair.

Subin twisted.

The staff passed beneath his chest.

He landed on a floating platform.

The archer fired.

Subin cut the arrow.

The halberd master attacked from the opposite side.

Subin moved backward.

The platform ended.

He jumped to another platform.

The shield master charged.

Subin used Fang Step.

He passed around the shield.

The dual-blade master attacked.

Subin blocked both blades.

The hammer master arrived.

Subin immediately understood.

They were forcing him between platforms.

There was almost no stable ground.

Every movement was being predetermined.

Subin's Sword Intent spread outward.

He stopped looking at individual opponents.

Instead, he observed the battlefield.

The platforms.

The river.

The forest.

The mountain.

The distance between the masters.

Their lines of attack.

Then he smiled.

"They're controlling my movement."

His sword lowered.

"Then I'll control theirs."

Subin jumped from the platform.

He didn't move toward an opponent.

He landed near the river.

The spear master attacked.

Subin stepped aside.

The spear entered the river.

Subin moved.

The spear master followed.

Subin suddenly accelerated toward the mountain.

The spear master pursued.

The archer fired.

Subin moved behind the spear master.

The arrow passed through the space between them.

The spear master was forced to defend.

Subin didn't attack.

He continued moving.

The swordsman came from the side.

Subin redirected the sword toward the spear master.

The spear master blocked.

The two projections collided.

Subin moved toward the axe master.

The axe descended.

He stepped aside.

The axe struck the ground.

Subin used the opening to push the axe master's position toward the river.

The shield warrior followed.

The hammer master followed the shield.

The dual blades followed the hammer.

The formation was shifting.

Subin kept moving.

He wasn't trying to defeat anyone.

He was moving the battlefield.

The masters followed because their combat logic demanded it.

Subin brought them toward the river.

Then toward the forest.

Then toward the mountain.

Each movement changed their formation.

The system began displaying notifications.

[Battlefield Control comprehension increasing.]

[76% → 79%.]

Subin continued.

The archer lost his ideal firing angle.

The halberd master became restricted by the trees.

The axe master couldn't swing freely.

The shield master couldn't maintain a forward-facing formation.

The hammer master couldn't create enough space for its attacks.

The chain master became entangled with the environment.

Subin finally stopped.

The nine masters were no longer coordinated.

They had become separate opponents.

Subin raised Simple Edge.

The swordsman attacked first.

Subin blocked.

The dual blades followed.

He redirected them.

The spear attacked.

He stepped inside.

The shield charged.

He moved aside.

The axe swung.

Subin entered the opening.

One cut.

[Weapon Master 30/100 defeated.]

The remaining masters attacked together.

But their formation had already collapsed.

Subin moved through them.

One by one.

A cut against the spear master.

[Weapon Master 31/100 defeated.]

A strike against the dual-blade master.

[Weapon Master 32/100 defeated.]

A slash against the halberd master.

[Weapon Master 33/100 defeated.]

The shield warrior remained.

Subin attacked.

The shield blocked.

Subin changed direction.

The short sword followed.

Subin stepped inside.

Simple Edge touched its chest.

[Weapon Master 34/100 defeated.]

The hammer master attacked.

Subin waited.

The hammer descended.

He moved.

The weapon struck the ground.

Subin stepped forward.

One cut.

[Weapon Master 35/100 defeated.]

The axe master charged.

Subin moved toward it instead of away.

The axe passed above him.

Simple Edge struck.

[Weapon Master 36/100 defeated.]

The chain master attacked.

Subin predicted the movement.

He stepped inside the chain's arc.

One cut.

[Weapon Master 37/100 defeated.]

Only the archer and staff master remained.

The archer fired.

Subin ran directly toward him.

The arrow came.

He cut it.

Another.

He cut it.

The archer fired three simultaneously.

Subin moved through the gap.

He reached the mountain.

The archer attempted to retreat.

Subin followed.

The archer drew another arrow.

Simple Edge touched his chest.

[Weapon Master 38/100 defeated.]

The staff master remained.

It approached slowly.

Unlike the others, it didn't rush.

Subin recognized the stance.

Defensive.

Adaptive.

The staff master attacked.

Subin blocked.

The staff rotated.

Subin stepped around it.

The staff followed.

The battle became a contest of positioning.

Neither opponent wasted movement.

Subin suddenly remembered the Grandmaster.

The transition.

The decision.

The moment between movements.

The staff master changed direction.

Subin saw the opening.

Simple Edge moved.

The staff was redirected.

Subin stepped forward.

One cut.

[Weapon Master 39/100 defeated.]

The battlefield became silent.

Subin stood alone.

The system appeared.

[Advanced Environmental Trial Complete.]

[Weapon Battlefield Progress: 39/100.]

[Battlefield Control: 79% → 84%.]

[Sword God Foundation: 90% → 93%.]

[Personal Sword Path: 69% → 74%.]

[Sword Intent Comprehension: 44% → 46%.]

Subin looked at the numbers.

His Sword God Foundation was approaching another threshold.

But the system didn't give him anything new.

No new skill.

No sudden evolution.

That was fine.

He was beginning to understand that his strongest improvements came when he understood something deeply enough that it no longer needed to be named.

Simple Edge remained in his hand.

Its synchronization displayed:

99.99%.

Still incomplete.

Subin looked at the sword for several seconds.

"Not yet."

The sword remained silent.

The battlefield suddenly changed again.

This time, there was no terrain.

No mountains.

No river.

No forest.

Everything disappeared.

The arena became an endless white space.

Subin stood alone.

Then a single figure appeared.

No weapon.

No armor.

No visible equipment.

Only a human silhouette.

The system displayed:

[Weapon Master 40/100.]

[Level: 60.]

[Rank: A-.]

[Classification: Unknown.]

Subin frowned.

The figure slowly raised its hand.

There was still no weapon.

Yet Subin immediately felt pressure.

Not killing intent.

Not physical strength.

Something else.

Understanding.

The figure took one step.

Subin's eyes narrowed.

For the first time since entering the Hundred Weapon Trial, he couldn't determine what weapon path the opponent represented.

The system gave one final notification.

[Warning.]

[This opponent possesses no fixed weapon.]

Subin tightened his grip on Simple Edge.

A faint smile appeared.

"Then I guess I'll find out what you're teaching me."

The figure moved.

And Subin raised his sword.
