Chapter 76: Rescue, Escape

A second after Ruan Weisong gave out the orders, responses came one after another through the communication device.

"Yes, Captain!"

"Roger that!"

Following his order, the six armored cars maneuvered among the zombies, crushing them as they formed a barricade between the zombies and the warehouse.

When the armored cars stopped, Ruan Weisong got out of the car and threw out more lightning balls toward the nearby zombies.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Seeing their captain fighting the zombie horde alone, the members of the Chi Wen Team all came out of their armored cars and joined the fight.

While they cleared the zombies besieging the warehouse, two wood-element ability users circulated their wood-element energy. A few seconds later, thick vines shot out from their palms toward the warehouse’s wall.

Stab! Stab! Stab!

The vines stabbed into the wall, forming a crude but sturdy green bridge between the warehouse and the Chi Wen Team.

Looking up, the male wood-element ability user shouted, "Jump!"

When his words fell, Lian Tianci urged, "Go, go, go!"

The soldiers quickly finished off the zombies rushing toward them, then jumped down from the rooftop. While they were evacuating, Lian Tianci stayed behind, fighting the zombies that tried to climb up the vines.

Two minutes later, all the soldiers had safely evacuated from the rooftop.

"Captain, hurry up!" shouted the soldier who had been saved by the Chi Wen Team earlier.

Seeing that all his team members had joined the battle below, Lian Tianci jumped down from the rooftop and landed on the vine bridge. Slashing at the zombies rushing toward him, he ran down as fast as he could with his remaining strength.

Meanwhile, Ruan Weisong and his team had cleared most of the zombies surrounding them.

The second he saw Lian Tianci jump down from the vine bridge, he commanded, "Get into the cars!"

Without delay, everyone got into the armored cars and climbed onto the cars’ roofs.

"Drive now!" Ruan Weisong shouted as he climbed onto the roof of the car, then threw out a few more lightning balls towards the zombies.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Following his example, those who climbed onto the cars’ roofs threw out their abilities as if they were free.

With them clearing the path, the drivers pressed down on the accelerators and drove out of the factory warehouse area at full speed.

Behind them, hundreds of zombies stepped over the corpses of their own kind and chased after the convoy madly.

Slumping down on top of one of the armored cars, Lian Tianci turned to look at Ruan Weisong. Covered in dust, sweat, and blood, he smiled and sincerely said, "Captain Ruan, I owe you one this time."

Ruan Weisong sat down, then took a few breaths to steady himself. Scanning Lian Tianci’s miserable appearance, he wiped the sweat from his chin, then nodded.

Noticing that Lian Tianci had lost his backpack, Ruan Weisong took out a small bottle of mineral water from his jacket pocket, then handed it to him.

"Thanks." Accepting the water, Lian Tianci thanked him, then quickly took a few mouthfuls.

While he was drinking, Ruan Weisong glanced at the zombie horde chasing after them, then fell into deep thought.

After Lian Tianci finished the entire bottle of water, Ruan Weisong asked, "Captain Lian, can you tell me how your team ended up surrounded by the zombie horde? I remember there weren’t many zombies in that area before."

Hearing the question, Lian Tianci’s expression darkened. Recalling those three armored cars and that ridiculous tissue-sale promotional loudspeaker, he clenched his hand angrily.

Crack!

Hearing a crushing sound, Lian Tianci lowered his eyes and saw that the empty plastic bottle had been crushed under his fingers.

Coughing lightly, he threw the crushed plastic bottle away, then looked at Ruan Weisong with a hint of embarrassment in his eyes.

"Uh, sorry about that."

Ruan Weisong waved his hand casually, then said, "Looks like this zombie horde was not a coincidence."

Lian Tianci nodded. "Mhm. After we split up, my team went to Area A to collect some supplies. However, on our way out after collecting the supplies, three black armored cars suddenly drove toward us."

"At first, we planned to hide until those three cars left. But who knew they would spot us before we could hide."

Noticing the murderous intent in Lian Tianci’s eyes, Ruan Weisong asked, "Did they do something to your team?"

Lian Tianci gritted his teeth in anger and replied, "Yes. They threw a loudspeaker promoting tissues toward us, attracting the nearby zombies. Unfortunately, although we managed to destroy the loudspeaker, hundreds of zombies had already surrounded us."

"As we fought, more and more zombies gathered while our ammunition and abilities were depleted. Left with no other option, I could only lead my team to the highest warehouse building nearby and defend that place."

Lian Tianci paused for a second, then gave Ruan Weisong a sincere smile. "Fortunately, Captain Ruan arrived in time to save us from becoming the zombies’ snacks."

After he finished recounting the events, Ruan Weisong frowned slightly.

’Three armored cars? Could it be that these people are the ones after the item? Looks like I need to investigate this matter further.’

Having made his decision, Ruan Weisong raised his eyes to look at Lian Tianci. ℯℯ𝑙.

"These people are despicable. Captain Lian, my Ruan family has built a base near the Lie Huo Military Base. If you don’t mind, I can help you find out the identities of those people."

Lian Tianci indeed wanted to find out the identities of those bastards. However, he had already owed Ruan Weisong a favor. If he let Ruan Weisong help him investigate this matter, it would be even harder to repay the favor in the future.

Noticing Lian Tianci’s hesitation, Ruan Weisong added, "Captain Lian, you don’t need to feel troubled by this. The reason I want to help you is that I suspect the people trying to kill you are maybe the ones I’m looking for."
