The security guard said gravely, “When I said no vehicles, I was referring to ordinary cars. But the ones behind you aren’t ordinary.”

The driver sneered. “It’s just one lousy Audi and two lousy Volkswagens. Even all of them put together aren’t as expensive as this car.”

“The price doesn’t matter. What matters is that you need to back up right now and let them pass.”

“Why should I? They’re not ordinary, and the person in my car isn’t ordinary either. Besides, we were here first. Lift the gate and let us in!”

“You can’t enter. Move aside now, or I’ll have to call a forklift to forcibly remove your vehicle.”

Seeing the guard wouldn’t give an inch, the driver erupted, “You fucking try it!”

“What’s all the shouting about?” Lin Jiji asked, hearing the argument.

“This damn guard outside just said no vehicles could enter, but now he’s telling us to move aside to let the cars behind us in. Says the people behind us are ‘not ordinary.'”

“So they’re special and we’re just common folk?” Lin Jiji grumbled. “So much drama for such a backwater place. It was one thing for Chenyang, a mere doctor, to cross me, but I can’t believe a security guard at this dump of a hospital dares to run his mouth nonstop.”

“So what do we do now?”

“We’re staying right here. I’d like to see if he has the balls to touch our car. Also, tell him I’m in the car. If he only lets those cars in today and not us, I’ll have this hospital shut down for good!”

With Lin Jiji’s threat backing him up, the driver became even more arrogant. He stuck his head out the window and shouted Lin Jiji’s threat, embellishing it for good measure.

After hearing this, the security guard sneered, “You think just because you’re a celebrity, you’re entitled to special privileges everywhere you go?”

“Of course! I’ve got a huge celebrity in my car. All those people in the cars behind us combined aren’t worth a single hair on his head!”

“Heh, you really are a good little dog, putting your celebrity master on a higher pedestal than the city leaders.”

The security guard let out a cold laugh. First, he took out his walkie-talkie and ordered someone to bring the forklift over. Then, he said to the driver, “Last chance. Either move the car immediately, or I’m having the forklift haul it away.”

“I’m not moving! You just try and touch us today! If you dare, the superstar in my car will have this hospital shut down for good!”

“You’re so full of shit! Shut down our hospital? Who the hell do you think you are? You think being a celebrity makes you all that?”

“It does make me all that. At least, a stinking security guard like you could never compare in a million years.”

BEEP! BEEP!

As the driver was cursing, the car behind them honked its horn a few more times, and someone leaned out the window, shouting, “Hey, what’s going on up there?”

The guard said apologetically, “My apologies. We have an unreasonable person here who’s blocking the road and won’t move. If you could just wait a moment, I’m dealing with him right now.”

The person in the Audi said, “Please hurry it up. We have urgent business to attend to.”

“Yes. One moment.”

After his apology, the guard turned back to Lin Jiji’s driver and said, “Move it! The people in the car behind you are here on important business!”

“We’re here on important business too, damn it!”

“What kind of damn business could a celebrity have?”

“You…”

The guard didn’t give the driver a chance to start swearing. He changed his tack and continued, “And another thing, don’t throw your weight around just because you’re a celebrity’s driver. What’s so special about them? What do they contribute to society? Other than putting on airs and hogging public resources, if you ask me, they’re not even as useful as a security guard like me.

“Also, take a good look at those cars behind you. The people inside are the ones who actually solve problems for the public. If you know what’s good for you, get out of the way. I don’t know if you can get this hospital shut down, but I guarantee the people in those cars can make sure your so-called superstar never leaves Yang City!”

“Heh, the biggest shot in Yang City is just the Party Secretary. Even if the city’s top leader himself is in that car, he’d still have to be respectful when he meets my star.”

Hearing his driver’s words, the smug look on Lin Jiji’s face deepened.

Clearly, he thought so too.

He truly believed he was a bigger deal than all the leaders in Yang City combined.

But Liu Yue, sitting beside him, was fighting the urge to jump out of the car and publicly disown Lin Jiji.

Because with every word and action, those two were digging their own graves deeper and deeper.

WEE-WOO WEE-WOO…

Just then, the sound of a siren grew closer as an ambulance approached. As it neared the gate, the driver’s voice boomed from the loudspeaker: “Make way! There’s a critically ill patient in the ambulance in need of emergency treatment!”

Hearing this, the Audi and the Volkswagens all reversed to clear a path.

But Lin Jiji’s car remained completely still.

The guard yelled urgently, “Move it! There’s a patient in critical condition!”

“We’re not moving!” Not only did the driver refuse to budge, he even turned off the engine.

The guard’s expression faltered. “Saving a life is what’s important. I’ll lift the gate for you. Just let me let you in first, how about that?”

The driver looked hesitantly toward Lin Jiji.

Without a second thought, Lin Jiji cursed, “No! We’re not going in! Unless the hospital director comes here to apologize to me in person, no one is getting through this gate today!”
