Chapter 779: The Light Of The Lamp.
Star divination snorted and said in disdain to Many Eyes, "Face it, your eyes are above average at best. And that’s me being generous. If i want to be realistic with you, I would call your eyes ordinary."
But Many Eyes refused to admit defeat. He said, "If your eyes are so great, what is the range of your perception right now?"
He was asking that question because he had spread out his eyes in different directions far beyond his normal range of perception. This has caused his range of perception to expand.
In fact, his range of perception is undeniably the largest among the three of them, and he didn’t hesitate to show it off.
His voice was full of disdain as he said, "If your eyes are so good, why can I see farther than you right now?"
Instead of feeling shame, Monarch Star Divination shook her head in pity and chuckled as she said, "You sound so short-sighted to me right now. It is either that or you’re ignorant of the fact that the range of perception doesn’t mean anything to me. I can see everything in the world, no matter where it is."
Then she lifted her chin and said with pride, "Distance means nothing to me."
At this point, Many Eyes was getting angry because she had called him short-sighted. Calling a seer short-sighted was an insult akin to calling a giant a dwarf. It was an insult worthy of coming to blows for.
After he was insulted like that, Many Eyes’s voice rose in anger as he said, "Oh, please. Don’t boast to someone informed. Keep your exaggerations to ignorant plebs."
"I know for a fact that you can’t actually see anything anywhere. I know that you need to have a hook on something before you can see it. And I know that some things can block your vision."
This made her shoot back, saying, "And what about you? A simple crystal shield can block your vision."
Then she sneered and said, "If you were not a divine being with the Insight Stat, a simple wall would also block your vision."
The two of them continued to argue for a while longer. The problem was that it was common sense among seers that the Many Eyes Metac was only so-so. It was supposed to be an established fact that the Many Eyes Metac was mediocre and could only shine when used together with other Divine Metacs. But Monarch Many Eyes refused to admit to this.
Monarch Star Divination was willing to admit that if the Many Eyes Metac was paired with her Star Divination Metac, the power of her Divine Metac would more than double. But this was only if Monarch Many Eyes would admit that, on its own, the Many Eyes Metac was lacking.
But Monarch Many Eyes refused to be reasonable. He refused to let anyone call his Divine Metac an auxiliary Divine Metac for seers. It seemed this was a sore spot for him.
However, no matter how passionate he was about the usefulness of the Many Eyes Metac, he couldn’t defeat Star Divination in this argument. Especially when they moved their verbal argument into the area of practical sparring.
Star Divination suggested that they try to find something, and that the first person to find that thing would win. No matter how vocal Many Eyes was, he was bound to lose this competition.
Fortunately, something came up that proved conclusively that the Many Eyes Divine Metac had merits as a stand-alone Divine Metac. At the very least, he was able to prove that the Many Eyes Divine Metac deserved. The only downside was that he didn’t like the method he used at all.
If he had a choice, he wouldn’t have used this method to prove his point. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a choice in the matter.
When the enemy approached them, he was the first one to notice it. Star Divination didn’t notice the incoming enemy, and neither did Eye Tracker.
Monarch Eye Tracker could be excused for missing the enemy because he was busy looking at the trail in front of him. As for Star Divination, she had no excuse whatsoever for missing such a glaring threat.
Many Eyes noticed the incoming enemy first. When he did, he shushed Star Divination and said, "Keep quiet. There is someone coming. They are very fast and powerful."
But Star Divination didn’t believe him. She rolled her eyes and said, "Oh, come on. Don’t think you can use a made-up enemy to prove that you have better eyesight than me."
Her words made him snap at her in anger, saying, "If there is no enemy, prove me wrong. If you can’t prove me wrong, then what use are your eyes for?"
She took a lot of offense with that question, so she was determined to prove wrong when she looked in the direction Many Eyes was indicating and activated her Divine Metac.
In the void of space, there is no visible light. Everything is pure darkness. They might as well be at the bottom of the ocean with no light and no oxygen.
Even for divine beings with the Insight Stat, moving around in the void is like moving about at night with a lamp. The light of the lamp can help them see what is within a certain range. But there is only darkness beyond the range of the lamp.
In this situation, Many Eyes had claimed that there was an enemy beyond the range of the light of the lamp. For many divine beings, this will stump them.
After all, if there is something beyond their range of perception, there is absolutely nothing they can do to perceive it except to move closer to the object and bring it under the light of their perception.
Even Eye Tracker would be stumped by this. But Star Divination is special. She can see beyond the light of the lamp as long as she has a hook into what she is looking for.
