"What’s wrong?" Junyue asked, looking at Jiang Fan.

Jiang Fan forced a smile and glanced inside the orphanage.

"It’s nothing, Junyue. I have something urgent to take care of, so I have to step out for a little while. Could you and Qian’Er do me a favor and watch Mengmeng for me? I’ll be back soon!"

Junyue was a bit surprised, but she nodded anyway.

After leaving the Grand Orphanage, Jiang Fan didn’t waste any time. He drove straight to the Guomao Restaurant.

The Guomao Restaurant was in the city center, but it wasn’t far from the Grand Orphanage. It took Jiang Fan just twenty minutes to walk into the private room.

Pushing the door open, Jiang Fan saw Su Qingchu and Chen Xuan in the middle of a toast. Both of them looked like they had already had a fair bit to drink. The table was laden with a lavish spread of dishes.

Behind them stood four or five big, burly men.

"Well now, Jiang Fan. Right on time. Come on, have a seat!"

When he saw Jiang Fan, Chen Xuan pointed to a nearby chair, gesturing for him to sit.

"Quick, pour Mr. Jiang a drink!"

Chen Xuan waved at one of the men behind him.

"That won’t be necessary, Chen Xuan, Su Qingchu. I’m surprised to see you two have buddied up. If you have something to say, just say it. Cut the crap and spit it out."

Chen Xuan and Su Qingchu exchanged a look. Neither of them seemed angry. They pointed to the seat in front of Jiang Fan and said, "Jiang Fan, my friend, sit down. We can take our time."

Jiang Fan glanced at them both, then slowly sat down.

Su Qingchu glanced at the men behind him. Taking the hint, they filed out of the room and closed the door behind them.

"Jiang Fan," Su Qingchu began, "Xue’Er and I were childhood sweethearts. I know her personality better than anyone. Even though I was away for a while, I know one thing for certain: there’s no way she would marry you and have a child. You can drop the act."

"That’s right, Jiang Fan," Chen Xuan added. "After Elder Yin’s banquet, I did some digging on you. You’re not some out-of-province businessman. There’s no prominent Jiang Family from another province. Your relationship with Yin Ruxue is fake, too. You’re not her boyfriend. I bet she just hired you."

"Well, it seems Young Master Su and Young Master Chen have been very thorough in their investigation," Jiang Fan said with a smirk.

He leisurely pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and looked at the two men.

"You two don’t need to concern yourselves with my background. And my relationship with Yin Ruxue is none of your business. So, let’s get straight to the point. Why did you ask me here? Stop beating around the bush."

"Fine!" Su Qingchu took a gulp of his drink and stood up.

"Let’s be frank, Jiang Fan. You’ve provoked the Liu Family, and I don’t want Xue’Er to suffer because of you. The Liu Family has already partnered with the Fengming Group to make their move. Xue’Er’s company has taken a huge hit, and the Liu Family isn’t going to just let you off the hook. You know that as well as I do."

Just then, Chen Xuan added, "You’re quite the player, aren’t you? Not only are you stringing along Yin Ruxue, but you’ve also gotten involved with Li Muwan from the Li Family. And I hear you’ve hooked up with some online streamer, too, is that right?"

Jiang Fan smirked. "I thought after Young Master Chen lost at stone gambling last time, you’d actually keep your word and get lost. I’m surprised you’re still keeping such close tabs on me."

"Cut the fucking crap!"

Chen Xuan pulled a check right out of his pocket.

"This is two million. You’re not serious about Yin Ruxue anyway. Take the money and never show your face in front of her again."

Su Qingchu then said, "Don’t throw our good intentions back in our faces. Take the money. As for the Liu Family, Young Master Chen and I will use our family influence to sort things out for you. This is a deal you can’t lose."

Hearing this, Jiang Fan couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh.

"You two have really gone to a lot of trouble on my account. But I’m curious. Even if I do back out, one Yin Ruxue can’t possibly date both of you at the same time. At the end of the day, you’re still love rivals. How did you two end up in bed together on this?"

Jiang Fan’s words made both of them flush with anger.

Chen Xuan and Su Qingchu looked at each other, both of them fuming.

"That’s none of your goddamn business! That’s our problem!" Chen Xuan said coldly. "Just think it over. This is a one-time offer. You take the money and get lost, and we’ll handle the Liu Family for you."

"It does sound like a good deal."

Jiang Fan glanced at the offered check, then back at the two men before him, and couldn’t help but shake his head.

"Su Qingchu, your sister is one of Yin Ruxue’s best friends, and Yin Ruxue trusts her completely. Chen Xuan, your grandfather, Chen Feng, and Elder Yin Mountain are old family friends. And yet, both of you are just treating Yin Ruxue like a bargaining chip. What’s the difference between you and a couple of animals?"

As he spoke, Jiang Fan stood up in a fury and walked out without a backward glance.

"Dammit, Jiang Fan! You’ll regret this!"

"You can just fucking wait to die, you bastard!"

The shouts and curses of Chen Xuan and Su Qingchu followed him, but Jiang Fan paid them no mind, simply turning and walking out of the Guomao Restaurant.

Leaving the Guomao Restaurant, Jiang Fan was in low spirits.

But it wasn’t because of Chen Xuan and Su Qingchu. It was because of Yin Ruxue.

From what Su Qingchu had said, Jiang Fan had gleaned at least one useful piece of information: Liujiang River hadn’t let Xuerong International off the hook. Instead, he had teamed up with the Fengming Group to put pressure on Yin Ruxue through underhanded means.

But Yin Ruxue hadn’t said a single word about it to him.

Jiang Fan finally understood why Yin Ruxue had to work on a weekend. It looked like her company had taken a significant hit.

Just as he was thinking about this, his phone rang. It was Yin Ruxue.

"Hello, Xue’Er!"

"Jiang Fan, where’s Mengmeng?"

Yin Ruxue’s voice was frantic as soon as he answered.

"Isn’t Mengmeng at the Grand Orphanage?"

After picking up Mengmeng that morning, Jiang Fan had sent Yin Ruxue a message telling her he’d taken Mengmeng to the Grand Orphanage. Yin Ruxue had even replied with an "Okay" and said she would come find them after she finished up with work at the company.

"I’m at the Grand Orphanage right now!" Yin Ruxue said.

He could also hear Junyue’s voice in the background.

"Jiang Fan, Mengmeng is gone! She was just in the yard after her nap. We only looked away for a moment and she vanished."

"Mengmeng is gone?"

Hearing this, Jiang Fan’s heart dropped.

Yin Ruxue’s panicked voice came through the phone.

"Jiang Fan, why did you leave her alone? Where is Mengmeng?"

"Don’t panic! I’m on my way back right now!"

Jiang Fan hung up and sped toward the Grand Orphanage.

His heart sank and his mind went completely blank.

He raced back, arriving at the Grand Orphanage just over ten minutes later.

He quickly spotted Junyue and Yin Ruxue inside the orphanage.

"Xue’Er! Junyue! What happened?" Jiang Fan rushed over to them.

By this point, both Yin Ruxue and Junyue were distraught.
