Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Fortunately, You’re Here

At that moment, he felt his heart skip half a beat.

"What’s with all the talk? Are you trying to get out of drinking?"

"Not even God himself could make me back out of a drink today!"

Jiang Fan crushed the can in his hand and threw it down in front of them.

"Hmph, I’ve never backed out of anything in my life!"

After they polished off half a case of beer, Li Muwan’s mind began to grow hazy.

Jiang Fan shook his head, trying to clear it of the alcohol.

He didn’t know what kind of beer it was. It wasn’t strong, but it went straight to his head.

"Jiang Fan, do you like Xue’Er?"

"Have you two really not... done anything else?"

Li Muwan actually scooted closer and nudged him with her shoulder.

"Us? No."

Jiang Fan shook his head, slurring his denial.

"At most, she’s just a friend."

"She helped me when I was at my lowest, but that woman is arrogant, selfish, and brainless."

As he spoke, Jiang Fan fell back onto the grass.

"How dare you slander the company chairman like that! Careful you don’t get fired!"

Li Muwan lay down beside him, and the two of them gazed at the stars in the sky.

"Tch. I’d like to see them try."

Jiang Fan curled his lip, not taking such words to heart at all.

’Right now, Yin Ruxue would do anything to keep me at the company.’

’Fire me?’

"Jiang Fan, do you think we’ll all be happy in the future?"

"We will!"

"Tell me, what are the stars in the sky really made of?"

"They’re the people you miss most, watching over you from the heavens!"

"Tell me, what’s really outside of Earth?"

"An infinite universe, vast and boundless."

"Do you think he’ll come back for me? Does he still love me?" ℴℴ𝘮

"Whether there’s love or not comes from the heart. You should ask yourself, not me."

...

They went on like this, one asking and one answering.

No matter what strange and bizarre questions Li Muwan asked, Jiang Fan could always answer quickly.

And every sentence seemed to carry a hint of deeper meaning.

"The heart?"

Li Muwan sat up and downed a bottle of beer.

"Am I ugly? Or is my personality just bad?"

"All I want is the simplest, most ordinary life."

Li Muwan stared into the distance, speaking these words calmly.

But her fists, clenched so tightly they had turned white, showed that her heart was not as calm as her expression.

"Was your last relationship really that unforgettable?"

"What was so great about him that he made you afraid of men, disgusted by men, even physically repulsed?"

To be honest, Jiang Fan was very curious.

He could tell that a part of Li Muwan’s wild behavior tonight was her attempt to come to terms with the past.

"Yes, I loved him very, very much."

Jiang Fan stood up, swaying.

He walked slowly alone into the gathering fog.

"But don’t you realize that this is a twisted way of thinking? Are you just doing it to feel some kind of psychological satisfaction?"

"You can curse me, you can even hit me, but you can’t say my love is twisted."

For once, Li Muwan’s eyes widened. She stared at Jiang Fan with dead seriousness and enunciated every single word.

"Is that so?"

Jiang Fan chuckled softly.

"Maybe that’s how you feel, but is it doing you any good?"

"Did you see the firefly that just flew past?"

Jiang Fan suddenly pointed ahead and asked.

"Huh? Where?"

Li Muwan looked up, stunned.

"You missed it!"

His words, sharp and final, plunged her into silence.

’He’s right. Once you miss something, it’s gone.’

’Everything I’m doing now is just indulging my own sorrow.’

"To put it bluntly, while you’re here complaining about fate and torturing yourself, he’s probably already rolling around with some other woman."

"Or maybe his life is going great, while you’re still stuck in the past without even realizing it."

Jiang Fan’s words were a bit slurred and halting.

But Li Muwan took every one of them to heart.

"The prerequisite for loving someone is loving yourself."

"Oh? It’s finally sinking in?"

Jiang Fan suddenly smiled.

"This is the kind of thing you only truly understand when you figure it out for yourself."

"No matter what anyone else says, it doesn’t mean a damn thing."

"Loving yourself is the greatest prerequisite to loving anyone else."

Jiang Fan’s memory suddenly flashed back several years, to a time when he’d been treated like a dog. ’I couldn’t have treated her any better back then,’ he recalled bitterly. ’I practically worshipped her like an ancestor, and for what? I was cuckolded so badly the green hat practically glowed.’

The memory made Jiang Fan suck in a sharp breath of cold air.

"I never thought that besides having a good head for business, you were also good at giving people advice."

"You’d make a killing as a therapist, wouldn’t you?"

But Jiang Fan just shook his head and sat down right next to her.

"Like I have the qualifications for that? In this society, everything depends on connections."

"Actually, sometimes I think being a delivery driver is pretty good. At least it gives ordinary, average people like us a chance to make a living."

As he spoke, Jiang Fan opened another bottle of beer.

"Not so fast, wait for me!"

Li Muwan opened a bottle as well and clinked it against Jiang Fan’s.

The two looked at each other and smiled.

Then they tilted their heads back and chugged.

"What is this crap beer? It’s making me have to pee."

Li Muwan tossed her bottle aside and spoke with a petulant pout.

"For a young lady, you have quite a mouth on you! How improper!"

Jiang Fan had a look of disgust on his face.

"I don’t care, you have to come with me to the bathroom!"

"I just have to pee!"

Her sudden, petulant demand made Jiang Fan shift on the grass.

"Men and women are different. Go by yourself."

"Then I’ll just pee right here!"

Li Muwan was dizzy; she couldn’t be bothered to care.

Jiang Fan grabbed her hand; if he had been half a second slower, she would have pulled down her pants right in front of him.

"Madam, please have some self-respect!"

"Forget decency and embrace depravity," Li Muwan shot back without hesitation.
