Chapter 2728: Two Conditions

Ling Feng was somewhat taken aback. He leaned in to closely examine the body that had not decayed, just gradually dried up and changed color over time. Ling Feng did not only use his naked eye but also activated his Divine Sense.

However, whether by naked eye or Divine Sense, Ling Feng did not discover anything unusual. In other words, this body simply belonged to an ordinary person; maybe the only difference was that it was undamaged.

Facing Elder Shui Nian’s confident demeanor, Ling Feng had no choice but to scan the body again with his Divine Sense. Suddenly, something strange happened; Ling Feng had not noticed anything abnormal on his first scan.

But when he scanned with his Divine Sense for the second time, he found a mass of mist at the heart of the body. No matter how Ling Feng scanned it, the mist wouldn’t dissipate, and naturally, he could not see what was inside.

It was only at this moment that Ling Feng realized this body might not be as miraculous as he had imagined, nor did it reach the level of a precious artifact, but it indeed had some mystical and strange aspects.

Retracting his body and Divine Sense, Ling Feng exhaled slowly and asked with interest:

“Does this body really have such a significant origin? Is it the body of the ancestor of all things in your world? Are there other species in your world?”

Ling Feng was somewhat skeptical because earlier in the Lava World of the Huo Clan, they did not see any other creatures or species. It seemed like the Lava World only had the Huo Clan.

Now, in the Water Clan’s world, a so-called ancestor of all things mysteriously appeared, even with a tangible body? Even stranger was that his appearance resembled that of a human, which was the oddest part for Ling Feng.

Though Ling Feng had been an atheist before, with time, and having traveled to increasingly more places and encountered more magical people and creatures, Ling Feng became more convinced that every world had its own creator.

The appearance of the Lord of the Three Realms confirmed Ling Feng’s belief. Such great existences indeed could create worlds and establish supreme laws, but Ling Feng did not think the Lord of the Three Realms was human.

Or rather, Ling Feng did not believe the Lord of the Three Realms resembled a human. Of course, Ling Feng did not deny that many powerful humans in various universes had reached the point of being able to create worlds, but such individuals were in the minority.

The current world could be said to be the Nine Nether, with the Water Wave World and Lava World just being one layer among them. So is this ancestor of all things the creator of the Nine Nether, or just of the Water Wave World?

Shui Nian started to answer: “The Water Wave World does indeed have more than just the Shui Clan; there exist other creatures and species, but we, the Shui Clan, are the most numerous and powerful clan in this world.”

“You should know of the Nine Nether’s existence, right? The Water Wave World is just the third layer of the Nine Nether?” Ling Feng again probed Shui Nian’s understanding.

Shui Nian nodded: “Indeed, the Nine Nether is a vast world, and we are just one of its layers.”

“To be honest, we three came from the Upper Realm, a place known as Jiuzhou, which you must also be aware of.” Ling Feng decided not to conceal it.

Shui Nian nodded again: “We also know about Jiuzhou. In our knowledge, that place is indeed in the Upper Realm. But hardly anyone goes there, although records state it’s a flourishing world without division into smaller worlds,”

“A world is a whole.”

Ling Feng nodded, then continued to convey his understanding and ideas: “So, we indeed just came by, with the real intent to see the final layers of the Nine Nether,”

“In other words, we have no intention of involving ourselves in any conflicts between clans or worlds, whether it’s between your Shui Clan and the Huo Clan, or with other clans of the Nine Nether,”

“So even if we are the people from your prophecy, we are still individuals with subjective initiative, and whether or not to help you is up to us,”

“As of now, we don’t want to expend our efforts to help you through your catastrophe.” Ling Feng shook his head.

Shui Nian seemed to have expected this and nodded, then exchanged a glance with his granddaughter Shui Xia, seeing worry and hesitation on each other’s faces.

Suddenly, Shui Xia shouted at Ling Feng and his companions: “But aren’t you good people? Shouldn’t you be the heroes from books? Aren’t you supposed to stand up to injustice when you see others in trouble? How could it be like this?”

“Shui Xia, do not be rude!” Shui Nian shouted.

With a smile, Ling Feng looked at the slightly tearful Shui Xia and calmly said, “You’ve got it wrong. We’ve never considered ourselves good people or heroes, and even if heroes take action, it’s not for free,”

“No one wants to engage in businesses without any benefit; there’s no free lunch in the world. Those so-called good people and heroes only exist in novels and storybooks. I suggest Miss Shui Xia read less of such harmful books, or it might dull one’s sense.”

Ling Feng, still smiling, watched as Shui Xia’s face turned red with anger, seemingly ready to give the provoking Ling Feng a punch, but was stopped by her elder Shui Nian.

“Alas,” Shui Nian sighed, and then said, “Tell me, what do you need to help us Shui Clan survive the crisis? As long as it’s within what we Shui Clan possess, I am willing to give it to you, just for you to save us once.”

Ling Feng finally laughed heartily: “Hahaha! The elder indeed has the experience of handling matters, knowing that in reality, people act only in their self-interest. No one is willing to give their abilities for nothing…”

Ling Feng extended two fingers: “Two conditions: First, you must give me the most precious treasure of your Shui Clan. You now say it is this body, I believe you, but if there’s anything else you consider a supreme treasure, show me, and I might accept it instead of the body,”

“But it must be the most precious. If I later find this body not so precious, I will not help you. So I suggest you bring out the most precious treasure of the Water Wave World as an assurance.”

“Second, after you have survived the disaster, you must send us to the next world and share all the information about that world you know!”

“As long as you agree to these two conditions, I, Ling Feng, will promise to ensure your Shui Clan safely rides through the disaster described in the scroll, without so much loss of life!”
