THE LAST & THE FIRST : Rulebreaker
Chapter 110 — The Sovereign's True Battle
The blue flame appeared between the Bone Sovereign's fingers.
Kael stood several dozen meters away.
The Darven Origin Blade rested in his hand.
No army surrounded them.
No Soul Furnace fed the battlefield.
No formation amplified the Sovereign.
For the first time since entering the Bone Domain—
there was nowhere to hide behind.
Only two beings remained.
The Sovereign.
And Kael.
The System hovered before him.
[Legendary Beast: Bone Sovereign]
[Level: 87]
[Grade: Legendary]
[Soul Resistance: 17%]
[Passive Trait: Soul Adaptation]
[Legendary Immortality Remaining: 25:03:51]
Kael slowly lowered his stance.
The Sovereign smiled.
“You are different now.”
Kael stared at it.
“So are you.”
“Yes.”
The blue flame around the Sovereign's hand suddenly disappeared.
For one second—
nothing happened.
Then—
BOOM!
The Sovereign vanished.
Kael reacted on instinct.
The Origin Blade rose.
CLANG!
A blue fist struck the blade.
The impact pushed Kael backward.
He immediately stepped forward.
The Sovereign's other hand came toward his shoulder.
Kael twisted.
The attack missed by a few centimeters.
Kael struck the creature's ribs.
SLASH!
The Origin Blade cut through the outer Soul layer.
A faint blue line appeared.
The Sovereign looked down.
Then back at Kael.
“You can damage Soul energy now.”
Kael smiled.
“You taught me.”
The Sovereign attacked.
Kael blocked.
CLANG!
Another strike.
Kael dodged.
The Sovereign moved again.
Kael stepped inside.
The Origin Blade struck.
BOOM!
The Sovereign was forced backward.
Kael followed.
One step.
Two.
Three.
He attacked from the right.
The Sovereign blocked.
Kael reversed the blade.
The weapon changed angle.
The Sovereign caught it.
Kael used Metal Control.
The Origin Blade twisted in its grasp.
The Sovereign released the weapon immediately.
The sword returned to Kael.
Both paused.
The Sovereign smiled.
“You have finally learned to control the blade without depending on your hands.”
Kael raised it.
“I've been practicing.”
The Sovereign raised its hand.
“Then continue.”
Soul Weapons
Blue light gathered around the Sovereign.
The energy changed shape.
A spear appeared.
The Sovereign threw it.
Kael moved.
The spear transformed during flight.
It became a thin blade.
Kael barely avoided it.
The weapon curved through the air.
Kael's eyes widened.
It can change direction.
He moved again.
The blade transformed into a chain.
It wrapped around his leg.
Kael fell.
The chain pulled.
Kael reacted immediately.
Metal Control surged through the Origin Blade.
The sword flew from his hand.
It cut the chain.
Kael rolled.
The Sovereign attacked.
Kael blocked.
Another weapon formed.
A hammer.
Kael jumped.
The hammer struck the ground.
The impact created a pulse of Soul energy.
Kael was thrown sideways.
He landed.
The Sovereign didn't pursue.
Instead, dozens of blue fragments appeared around it.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
Projectiles.
The fragments shot forward.
Kael raised his blade.
CLANG!
One.
Two.
Three.
He deflected them.
The fourth slipped past.
Kael tilted his body.
It missed.
Five.
Six.
Seven.
Kael couldn't block everything.
He activated Spatial Anchor.
A blue field appeared around him.
The projectiles struck the boundary.
Some shattered.
Some changed direction.
One passed through.
Kael moved.
Another.
He jumped.
Another.
He rolled.
His movements were becoming faster.
Not because his body had suddenly grown stronger.
Because his Soul Adaptation was working.
Each repeated attack became easier to sense.
Each pattern became clearer.
The System responded.
[Soul Adaptation active.]
[Repeated attack pattern recognized.]
[Resistance increased.]
[Soul Resistance: 17% → 19%]
Kael smiled.
“Again.”
The Sovereign attacked.
The Sovereign's Three Forms
The battle continued for several minutes.
The Sovereign changed its Soul weapons continuously.
Spear.
Blade.
Chain.
Hammer.
Bow.
Sickle.
Each weapon produced a different style of attack.
Kael learned.
The spear was fastest.
The hammer had the greatest impact.
The chain restricted movement.
The bow created delayed projectiles.
The sickle curved through defenses.
The Sovereign wasn't simply changing weapons.
It was changing its combat style.
Kael realized something.
“You don't have one fighting style.”
The Sovereign nodded.
“I have thousands.”
“From all the people you've fought?”
“From everything that has ever entered this realm.”
Kael's eyes narrowed.
“That explains the patterns.”
“Yes.”
The Sovereign raised its hand.
The Soul energy changed again.
This time—
a giant bow appeared.
Kael immediately moved.
The arrow wasn't aimed at him.
It was aimed behind him.
Kael looked over his shoulder.
A second arrow appeared from the opposite direction.
His pupils contracted.
Crossfire.
He jumped.
The two arrows passed beneath him.
They collided.
A shockwave spread outward.
Kael spun in midair.
The Sovereign was already there.
A blade came down.
Kael crossed the Origin Blade.
BOOM!
He crashed into the ground.
The blade remained locked against the Sovereign's weapon.
Kael gritted his teeth.
“You're stronger in close combat than I expected.”
The Sovereign stared at him.
“I was once a warrior.”
Kael blinked.
“A mage.”
“Now.”
The Sovereign pushed him away.
“But I was not always one.”
Kael recovered.
“You're saying you were both?”
“More.”
The Sovereign's blue flame intensified.
“I had thousands of years to learn.”
The creature charged.
Kael charged too.
Their blades collided.
CLANG!
Again.
CLANG!
Again.
The pace increased.
The Sovereign's strikes became faster.
Kael's movements sharpened.
His eyes tracked.
His body reacted.
The Origin Blade moved almost independently.
Kael was no longer thinking about every strike.
His body was learning.
The System flashed.
[Soul Adaptation: 19% → 23%]
Kael's movements became smoother.
The Sovereign noticed.
“You are changing.”
Kael smiled.
“So are you.”
The Third Death
The Sovereign suddenly stepped backward.
Kael stopped.
The battlefield became quiet.
The blue Soul energy around the creature condensed.
Not into a weapon.
Into armor.
A layer of blue plates covered the Sovereign's skeletal body.
Kael's eyes widened.
“That wasn't there before.”
“No.”
The armor completed.
Then the Sovereign disappeared.
Kael barely raised his sword.
BOOM!
The impact sent him flying.
He hit the ground.
The Sovereign appeared above him.
A blue blade descended.
Kael rolled.
The blade struck the ground.
Kael attacked the exposed side.
The Origin Blade hit the Soul armor.
CLANG!
Nothing.
The armor didn't crack.
Kael immediately retreated.
The Sovereign followed.
Its movements were faster.
Its defense was stronger.
And now—
its attacks were heavier.
Kael fired the V-01X.
BOOM!
The projectile struck.
The armor absorbed it.
Kael switched to Mana Disruption.
Nothing.
The Soul armor wasn't using ordinary mana.
Kael frowned.
He needed to find another method.
The Sovereign attacked.
Kael dodged.
Another.
He moved.
Another.
The creature's speed kept increasing.
Kael couldn't keep up.
A blue blade struck his side.
His vision flashed.
Another hit.
Kael fell.
A final strike landed.
His vision went dark.
Five seconds later—
Kael reformed.
He gasped.
The Sovereign was already waiting.
“You relied too heavily on your equipment.”
Kael stood.
“Your armor changes how the battle works.”
“Yes.”
“You're slower?”
“No.”
Kael narrowed his eyes.
The Sovereign smiled.
“I am more efficient.”
Kael thought.
That was important.
The armor hadn't increased the Sovereign's raw power as much as expected.
It had reduced wasted Soul energy.
Every movement became cleaner.
Every attack became more efficient.
The creature had become less flashy.
More dangerous.
Kael smiled.
“So you compressed your fighting style too.”
“Yes.”
Kael raised the Origin Blade.
“Then I'll do the same.”
Compression
Kael stopped using large movements.
No wide swings.
No dramatic attacks.
No unnecessary Metal Control.
He shortened everything.
One step.
One strike.
One movement.
He didn't chase.
He waited.
The Sovereign attacked.
Kael moved.
The next strike came.
He moved.
Again.
Again.
The Sovereign's attacks began becoming predictable.
Not because the Sovereign was making mistakes.
Because Kael was forcing himself into the smallest possible movement range.
His body stopped wasting energy.
His sword traveled the shortest paths.
His attacks became more precise.
The Sovereign's eyes narrowed.
“You are copying me.”
“No.”
Kael struck.
CLANG!
“I'm understanding you.”
Another strike.
CLANG!
Another.
CLANG!
Kael's Origin Blade slipped past the guard.
A thin silver line appeared across the Sovereign's armor.
The creature stepped backward.
Kael didn't pursue.
He waited.
The Sovereign attacked.
Kael countered.
SLASH!
Another crack.
The System flashed.
[Soul Resonance detected.]
[Origin Blade compatibility increasing.]
[Origin Resonance: 19% → 21%]
Kael's eyes widened.
The blade was adapting again.
Not only to Soul energy—
but to the Sovereign's compressed combat style.
The Sovereign stared at the sword.
“That weapon is learning.”
Kael smiled.
“So am I.”
The Sovereign's Memory
The Bone Sovereign stopped.
Kael didn't attack.
Something had changed.
The blue Soul armor disappeared.
The creature stood motionless.
Then it lowered its hand.
“You want to know why I was made.”
Kael frowned.
“Made?”
The Sovereign looked toward the dead sky.
“Yes.”
“I thought you were born.”
“So did I.”
A pause.
“Until I remembered.”
Kael listened.
“I was not born a Sovereign.”
“I became one.”
“How?”
“War.”
The Sovereign's Soul Flame flickered.
“I was once something smaller.”
“Human?”
The creature didn't answer immediately.
Then—
“Yes.”
Kael froze.
“A human became a Legendary Beast?”
“Not exactly.”
The Sovereign looked at its own skeletal hands.
“I was a human who accepted power that should never have been accepted.”
“The Soul Flame.”
“Yes.”
“It consumed my body.”
“Then why didn't you die?”
“I refused.”
Kael stared.
The Sovereign continued.
“I lost my body.”
“I lost my identity.”
“I lost my name.”
“But I kept my Soul.”
“And eventually…”
“I became this.”
Kael's expression hardened.
“So the Bone Sovereign isn't your species.”
“No.”
“It's your evolved state.”
The Sovereign nodded.
Kael's eyes widened slightly.
The word from the Soul Realm returned to him.
Evolution.
His body.
The Beast.
The bloodline.
Perhaps there was a connection.
The Sovereign looked at him.
“Your body is doing something similar.”
Kael stiffened.
“My body?”
“You survive.”
“You adapt.”
“You change.”
The Sovereign pointed toward him.
“Every battle pushes you somewhere you were not before.”
Kael clenched his fist.
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Because you are beginning to resemble what I once was.”
Kael frowned.
“That doesn't sound reassuring.”
“It is not.”
Soul Flame versus Evolution
The Sovereign raised its hand.
The Soul Flame changed.
Instead of blue—
it became nearly white.
Kael's eyes widened.
The air around him became heavy.
The System appeared.
[Extreme Soul Pressure detected.]
[Soul Resistance: 23%]
[Current protection: Insufficient.]
Kael immediately prepared himself.
The Sovereign spoke.
“This is my final offensive form.”
Kael tightened his grip.
“You're stronger than before.”
“Yes.”
“But weaker in defense.”
“Yes.”
“So you're putting everything into attack.”
“Yes.”
Kael smiled.
“Then let's gamble.”
The Sovereign's expression changed slightly.
Kael stepped forward.
The creature attacked.
There was no visible weapon.
Just a flash of white.
Kael moved.
The attack still reached him.
His body shook.
Soul energy tore through his defenses.
Kael remained standing.
[Soul Resistance: 23% → 25%]
He attacked.
The Origin Blade struck the white Soul layer.
BOOM!
The Sovereign was pushed back.
Kael followed.
Another strike.
Another.
The Sovereign countered.
Kael dodged.
White Soul energy exploded.
Kael died.
Five seconds later.
Kael returned.
The Soul pressure was already waiting.
He moved.
The Sovereign attacked.
Kael reacted earlier.
His Soul Adaptation had increased.
[Soul Resistance: 25% → 28%]
Another exchange.
Kael died.
Reformation.
[28% → 31%]
Another.
Death.
Reformation.
[31% → 34%]
The Sovereign's expression changed.
“You are adapting too quickly.”
Kael raised the sword.
“You keep giving me the same attack.”
“It is changing.”
“Not enough.”
The Sovereign attacked.
Kael moved before the attack fully manifested.
The white energy passed beside him.
Kael closed the distance.
The Origin Blade struck.
BOOM!
A large crack appeared in the Sovereign's Soul armor.
The Bone Sovereign stepped backward.
Its Soul Flame flickered.
The System responded.
[Bone Sovereign Soul Integrity: 91% → 83%]
Kael's eyes widened.
The creature could be damaged now.
His strategy had worked.
He was adapting faster than the Sovereign's attacks were evolving.
But the victory was nowhere near certain.
The Sovereign's Soul Flame suddenly expanded.
Its eyes burned bright blue.
“You have forced me to this.”
Kael raised his sword.
“Good.”
The creature lifted both hands.
The Soul Realm formed behind it.
But this time—
it wasn't pulling Kael inside.
It was bringing the Soul Realm outward.
Kael's eyes widened.
“That's not good.”
The Sovereign smiled.
“This is my final authority.”
The entire Bone Domain disappeared beneath a blue glow.
The Soul Realm overlapped reality.
Dead ground became translucent.
Ruins disappeared.
The sky became blue fire.
Kael's body felt heavier.
His soul felt exposed.
The System flashed repeatedly.
[Warning.]
[Unique Domain expansion detected.]
[Physical world and Soul Realm overlapping.]
[Host soul fully exposed.]
Kael tightened his grip.
The Sovereign's voice echoed everywhere.
“Now…”
The white Soul Flame became enormous.
“…you have nowhere left to hide.”
Kael stared upward.
The timer continued.
[Legendary Immortality Remaining: 21:47:32]
The Bone Sovereign raised its hand.
Thousands of white Soul weapons appeared.
Kael's expression became serious.
This was no longer a normal battle.
This was the Sovereign's true Domain.
And Kael's Soul Adaptation had only reached 34%.
The weapons descended.
Kael charged forward.
Not away.
Toward the Sovereign.
Every weapon missed him by centimeters.
One.
Two.
Three.
Kael cut through the fourth.
Another struck his shoulder.
He moved.
Another passed his head.
He stepped inside the attack.
The Origin Blade flashed.
BOOM!
The Sovereign blocked.
Kael struck again.
CLANG!
Another.
CLANG!
The white Soul Flame around the Sovereign began cracking.
Kael pushed forward.
The Sovereign raised its hand.
A massive white blade formed.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
The attack came down.
He crossed the Origin Blade with both hands.
BOOOOOOM!
The impact drove him into the ground.
Cracks spread beneath him.
His arms shook.
The white blade pressed harder.
Kael gritted his teeth.
The Sovereign stared down.
“You cannot hold.”
Kael's eyes sharpened.
“Then I won't.”
He released his grip.
The Origin Blade remained between them, floating.
Kael stepped sideways.
The Sovereign's attack slammed into the ground.
Kael reached out.
Metal Control.
But there was no metal nearby.
He didn't need it.
The Origin Blade itself moved.
It twisted.
Turned.
Then struck the Sovereign from behind.
SLASH!
The Soul armor cracked.
The Sovereign staggered.
Kael's eyes widened.
The System flashed.
[Soul Adaptation: 34% → 39%]
Kael smiled.
“Got you.”
The Sovereign slowly turned.
Its white flame flickered.
Then—
it laughed.
Not angrily.
Not cruelly.
Almost proudly.
“You finally understand.”
Kael frowned.
“Understand what?”
The Sovereign's answer echoed through the overlapping domains.
“You were never meant to fight like a human.”
Kael's expression changed.
The white Soul Flame exploded.
The entire Soul Realm shook.
And a new System notification appeared.
[Evolutionary Adaptation condition satisfied.]
[Hidden Evolutionary Process beginning.]
Kael froze.
The Sovereign looked directly at him.
“Now…”
Its Soul Flame became brighter.
“…show me what your body becomes.”
The System flashed.
[Evolution Path: Initial Stage.]
[Evolution Progress: 0%]
Kael stared.
For the first time since awakening his System—
a completely new status bar had appeared.
And the Bone Sovereign smiled.
The final battle was entering its most dangerous phase.
