The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 132: Countering Amie Plan
Chris came out of Arnold’s office with a slight smirk on his face.
Getting all the information he needed from Arnold had been quite easy.
It was hard to believe Amie had been that bold.
The man had wanted to prove stubborn, but with a few tweaks from Chris, he was spilling everything that had transpired between him and Amie.
Chris had encouraged him to keep giving her the information she requested.
But from now on, Chris was going to be the one feeding Arnold every piece of information he gave her.
After settling that, Chris drove directly to the Vassari mansion.
He had no need to stay at the company since he had nothing else to do there.
When Chris got to Serena’s room, she was sitting on her bed with her phone in front of her. She seemed to be on a business call.
Her glasses and walking stick were close to her, but she wasn’t using them. She gestured for Chris to wait, indicating that she was almost done with the call.
Chris kept himself busy by looking around the room.
Ever since Serena regained her sight, the setting of her room had been changing little by little.
But it would take someone familiar with her room to notice the changes.
She wasn’t leaving confidential things out in the open anymore.
Maybe it was because she was afraid Amie might see them. He had no idea.
He picked up one of the framed pictures. It was a family picture of him.
Almost immediately, he returned it.
He wished there was a proper family picture with June, his mother, and him.
But that would have to wait.
He missed June.
After sorting out what he had come to his mother for, he planned on paying her a visit. Things had been quieter with the Monterrios recently, so perhaps he could finally have some fun with his sister.
"Is there a problem?" Serena’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
He turned to her with a smile. "Not something huge, Mother. Just something I thought you deserved to be aware of."
Serena nodded. "Fine. Is this about Amie again?"
Amie was becoming a bone in her throat.
Serena had thought the girl would be obedient and simply follow the plan, but every day, she seemed to come up with something new.
Yet, recently, she hadn’t noticed any moves from the Monterrios and had assumed her plan was working.
She couldn’t withdraw Amie until she was certain they were finally free from the hands of the Monterrios.
"Yeah. Caught her coming out of Arnold’s office."
Serena’s brows rose.
She would give her that. Amie was bold, creating a path for herself where there was none.
Chris gave her a summary of everything he had gotten from Arnold.
"She can’t be this bold all by herself. I’m sure she has someone she’s reporting to," Chris concluded.
Serena thought for a moment. "If someone is directing her, my first guess would be Samir."
"Why him?"
"Because they couldn’t get what they wanted through her introduction. Samir isn’t the kind of man to simply accept that."
Chris frowned.
He saw no reason why they had to keep tiptoeing around Amie.
"Do you think I should confront her? I have a very interesting method of making her confess."
Serena shook her head.
"Amie is our princess in the eyes of the public. Any maltreatment might make people suspicious."
Chris thought about it for a while. The idea of making Amie taste some of what they had put June through in life was deliciously tantalising.
"She doesn’t have to know."
But Serena disagreed.
Pretending to care about Amie was already exhausting enough. These days, she avoided the girl under the pretence of being busy or sick.
Being close to her alone disgusted Serena.
"I think I have a better idea," Serena started. "You already told Arnold he has to pass information from you to her, right?"
Chris nodded.
"Then tell him something interesting. Tell Arnold we’re about to close a ten-million-dollar deal and make sure to give him a full description of the dealer."
"What are you planning, Mother?"
Serena smiled.
"Something very interesting."
Amie promised Karen a limited-edition bag.
It wasn’t out in stores yet, but Karen deserved it for introducing her to Arnold.
If Karen hadn’t told her about him, her father wouldn’t have praised her for working hard to restore their family name.
All she had to do now was wait for some good information from Arnold.
She picked up her phone for the third time in less than ten minutes.
Nothing.
Amie sighed and dropped it back on the table.
Her gaze moved towards her bag, and for some reason, she remembered the card she had hidden inside it.
Dante.
She pulled the card out and stared at the number written beneath his name.
She still knew nothing about him, but that only made him more interesting.
For a moment, Amie considered calling him.
She picked up her phone and typed in the number, saving it under his name.
Her finger hovered over the call button.
No.
If Dante was interested in her, he could wait.
Just as she was about to put her phone down, it vibrated in her hand.
Amie’s heart jumped.
She quickly checked the screen.
It wasn’t Dante.
It was Arnold.
Miss Vassari, I received some information I think you should know about.
Amie immediately sat straighter.
Finally.
She quickly typed a response.
What is it?
The three dots appeared almost immediately.
I don’t think this is something I should send over the phone. Can we meet?
Amie stared at the message.
If Arnold wasn’t willing to send it over the phone, then it had to be important.
A smile slowly appeared on her face.
Of course. Tell me where.
She placed her phone on the table and picked up Dante’s card again.
For now, the mysterious man could wait.
She finally had exactly what she had been looking for.
