The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride

Chapter 133: Siblings Meeting

  • Next Chapter

June had a favourite room now. Ever since Rauf had given it to her, she barely stepped out of it. She was always busy with research and the likes.

Recently, she had come to know more about the Mafia world. Most of the knowledge she had before now was usually from things she had seen her father do.

And she had thought he was one of the best Mafia men in the world, but from her research, he was quite low in the hierarchy.

There were people above him. People like the Vassaris, the Monterrios, and, with no surprise, the Salvadors.

She was enclosed in the room, munching on chips with a cup of juice beside her as she focused.

A knock on the door interrupted her.

June hated interruptions.

The staff already knew not to bother her whenever she was in the room, so whoever was knocking now must have a tangible reason.

June pushed herself up from the chair. She got tired easily these days.

She opened the door, and a wide smile appeared on her face.

"Chris!" she shouted.

He was the last person she had been expecting.

Chris smiled, lifting a bag. "Missed me?"

"Of course," she responded, taking the bag from him instantly.

She ushered Chris into the room.

Chris paused, looking around.

When he arrived at the house, he had immediately asked for June. He expected to see her lying down, resting, or doing something that signified she was bored, but instead, he was told she was in an office.

An office.

That had been a huge surprise.

He had asked Henson to bring him here.

Looking at the room now, it seemed as if it had been set up specially for her.

"What is this place?" he asked, his lips lifting in amusement.

"Just my personal office."

June had never been so proud of anything in her life.

All her life, she had always done things for someone else. But now, she had something to call her own.

Chris only nodded as his gaze moved around. He looked at the monitor, the refrigerator, and the pictures scattered around.

His lips curled into a wide smile.

"Are you sure you’re working here, or are you just eating?"

June puffed her cheeks. "Don’t joke with me. I’ve been working. You can test me if you want to."

Chris chuckled. "Just joking, but how did you convince Rauf to make this?"

June shrugged.

"I can smell love in the air," he teased.

Instantly, June made a move to hit him, but Chris moved out of the way.

"Oh, better watch out. You’re looking so fat."

Again, she puffed her cheeks. "I am not looking fat. I am looking beautiful."

Chris laughed. "Is that what Rauf told you? He’s deceiving you."

June shook her head, laughing. "I don’t miss you anymore. You can go back now."

"But I’m already here," Chris said, settling himself on the chair.

He picked up some of the pictures.

"What are these?"

Soon, June was telling him everything she had been learning from Rauf.

Chris listened carefully, and for a brief moment, he regretted that he hadn’t thought of teaching June some of these things while she was with them.

Serena was doing everything she could to keep June away from the danger surrounding their family, but Chris knew hiding her couldn’t be the only solution forever.

June needed to learn how to protect herself too.

The amusement slowly disappeared from his face.

"I want you to take this as seriously as you can. Learn everything you can from Rauf."

June could tell he meant every word.

"I will help anytime I can too. Mother has tried to prevent you from becoming a target of the Monterrios, but in the world we live in, anything can happen. I want you as safe as possible."

Mother.

June didn’t want to talk about the serious issues.

"How is Mother?"

Chris smiled. "She misses you a lot."

June sighed.

It was hard to believe she couldn’t see her mother even though they were just next door to each other.

"Can’t you find a way to bring Mother here?"

Chris thought about it for a while.

"That will be difficult, but I believe Mother is working on something. Soon, everything will be settled."

June sighed. "I hope so."

"Come on, show me some of your skills," Chris said playfully, trying to cheer her up.

June immediately brightened.

She showed him some of the things Rauf had taught her, and while she was able to get some right, she failed most of them, making Chris laugh so hard.

"Stop laughing!" June complained.

"I’m not laughing."

"You are!"

Chris tried to control himself. "Fine. Let’s see how good you really are."

He suddenly placed one of the pictures facedown.

"What colour was the man’s shirt?"

June frowned.

She had been looking at the picture less than a minute ago.

"Blue."

Chris turned it over.

Green.

June’s face fell.

Chris burst into laughter again.

"I was close!"

"How is blue close to green?"

"They’re both colours."

Chris stared at her for a second before laughing even harder.

June folded her arms. "You’re annoying."

"Fine. Something easier."

Chris placed the picture aside.

"What was I holding when you opened the door for me?"

June’s eyes narrowed.

She pictured the moment he arrived.

"The bag."

Chris nodded. "Which hand?"

Her confidence disappeared.

She looked at his hands as if they might somehow give her the answer.

"Your right?"

"Left."

June groaned.

Chris laughed again.

"Okay, okay. You’re not completely terrible."

"I am good at it."

"No. You’re learning."

June wanted to argue, but Chris had already picked up another picture.

For the next few minutes, he continued testing her.

She got some right and failed others.

But Chris noticed something.

June was paying more attention now.

Whenever he showed her a new picture, her eyes didn’t simply focus on the people anymore. She looked at their clothes, their surroundings, what they were holding, and even the objects behind them.

She was learning.

Slowly, but she was learning.

Chris finally dropped the last picture.

"Keep doing this."

June smiled proudly. "I told you I would be good."

"I didn’t say you’re good yet."

Her smile disappeared.

Chris chuckled.

His gaze moved around the room again.

The bed. The refrigerator. The computer. The snacks. Even the chair June had been sitting on looked comfortable.

"Rauf really did all this for you?"

June followed his gaze.

"Yes."

Chris looked at her.

June immediately frowned. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Nothing."

"I know that look."

"What look?"

"The annoying look."

Chris smiled.

"I just didn’t know Rauf could be this thoughtful."

June looked towards the refrigerator.

"He can be sometimes."

The answer came out before she could stop herself.

Chris’s smile widened.

June immediately pointed towards the door.

"You can leave now."

"I didn’t say anything."

"You were about to."

Chris laughed as he stood.

He had missed this.

And judging by the way June was trying not to smile, she had missed it too.
