the ultimatum
In the south, Kareth led another part of the army. The dark-blue-scaled Lizardwoman held a long sword in her hand.
Beside her were Nyra, Veyra, and Drazek. Meanwhile, Nyra watched the Medusas with bloodlust in her eyes.
"There are formations spread throughout this entire area."
Kareth nodded.
"Then we won’t advance all at once. We’ll need to identify all the formations before engaging in a decisive confrontation."
Veyra smiled.
"Of course."
Drazek checked his spear unit.
"When will we receive the order for the simultaneous attack?"
Kareth looked toward the mountains.
"When the central command gives the signal."
In the east, Seryn stood before the troops, her black fur almost disappearing into the shadows of the mountains.
Draven stood beside her, leaning on his heavy spear.
Shaara remained a few steps behind them.
Seryn observed the Medusas.
"They seem quite organized, and their morale is high."
Draven let out a laugh.
"Organization won’t save them. It won’t be long before their morale gives way to despair."
Shaara didn’t take her eyes off the mountains.
"Perhaps."
Draven turned his head.
"You disagree?"
"No."
She answered calmly.
"I’m saying that we still don’t know what they’ve prepared for us. We shouldn’t underestimate our enemies just because their numbers are pathetic."
Seryn finally spoke.
"The order to attack has finally been given."
In the west, the fourth enemy group remained before the mountains. None of the Medusas could clearly see all of the commanders there.
The troops had been positioned differently, ready to advance as soon as they received the signal.
All four points of the mountain range were surrounded. There was no longer a safe direction or escape route for the Medusas to use.
The war drums began to pound violently.
BOOM.
BOOM.
BOOM.
The sound echoed through the mountains, and to maintain the rhythm, thousands of enemy soldiers began striking their weapons against their shields.
The sound grew even louder.
The Medusas remained motionless, gripping their swords and preparing for the battle of their lives, while the archers aimed toward the enemy.
A young warrior took a deep breath.
"How many are there?"
Her companion looked toward the horizon, where an endless number of enemies could be seen.
She swallowed hard, unable to say anything.
In the north, Gorvak took several steps forward, causing his profound spiritual energy to explode from his body.
A powerful pressure spread throughout the area, causing the weaker Medusas to instinctively feel fear.
Some instinctively stepped backward, their legs trembling.
Seeing this, Vaelra raised her sword.
"Don’t retreat!"
Her voice swept through the formation, reinforced by the profound spiritual energy of a tenth-stage Profound Nascence cultivator, dispelling the fear they had felt moments earlier.
The warriors returned to their positions.
Gorvak watched the scene with a disdainful smile on his beastly face.
"Queen of the Medusas, hear my ultimatum!"
His voice, reinforced by spiritual energy, traveled throughout the entire mountain range, reaching everyone’s ears.
However, he neither saw nor heard the queen.
Gorvak frowned but continued anyway.
"You are surrounded!"
"Eighteen thousand soldiers and countless wild beasts stand before you!"
He raised his hammer.
"You have barely more than five thousand warriors, a number that can easily be crushed beneath my hammer if I so desire!"
His spiritual pressure increased once again.
"There is no longer a barrier to protect you!"
In the south, Kareth raised her eyes.
In the east, Seryn watched the mountains.
In the north, Gorvak continued.
"Surrender!"
His voice became even heavier.
"Surrender the mountain range!"
He paused.
"Hand over the Great Alchemist’s inheritance, and I will spare your mediocre lives!"
A murmur spread through the Medusa ranks. Some of them looked at one another.
Gorvak continued with his threatening words:
"If you obey, I will spare your lives and allow you to serve us as our slaves."
Vaelra narrowed her eyes.
"How dare you come here, onto our territory, and make such a demand?"
Elyra looked at her.
On the other side, Gorvak slowly raised his hammer.
"You’d better surrender obediently. Otherwise..."
His voice turned cold.
"...no one will leave this place alive."
To answer the ultimatum, Vaelra stepped forward.
Her spiritual energy began spreading outward, and the warriors behind her felt the pressure of her presence.
Vaelra raised her sword.
"You want our land?"
Her voice echoed across the mountain range.
"Come and take it if you have the courage."
Gorvak smiled.
"So you’ve chosen death. So be it."
Vaelra tightened her grip on her sword.
"No."
Her green eyes began to glow.
"We’ve chosen to make you pay for every one of our sisters you killed at the strait. For every one of them, you will die here today."
In the south, Nysara raised her hand.
In the east, Thesira drew her sword.
In the west, Mirevra released her spiritual energy.
All four positions responded simultaneously.
The defensive formations began to glow, and at the same time, the five thousand Medusas raised their weapons.
On the other side of the mountains, the eighteen thousand soldiers did the same.
Then the pressures of the cultivators began to emerge.
In the north, Gorvak, Khoran, Zarek, Tharok, and Velka released their energies.
In the south, Kareth, Nyra, Veyra, and Drazek did the same.
In the east, Seryn, Draven, and Shaara released their own pressures.
The other elite forces distributed among the four fronts began responding as well.
Spiritual energies collided in the air.
The sky seemed to grow heavier.
Vaelra looked at the thousands of warriors behind her and, for a moment, thought of Ariselle.
An entire day had passed, and her queen was still inside the mausoleum.
The battle that would determine their fate was about to begin, and the most important piece was absent.
"Prepare yourselves."
Gorvak raised his hammer and roared loudly.
"ADVANCE!"
The first enemy group began running.
After a brief moment, the second and third followed, charging forward amid a deafening war cry.
In the north, thousands advanced.
In the south, the troops began climbing the slopes.
In the east, the Lizardmen raised their shields.
In the west, the spiritual beasts began charging ahead of the soldiers.
Vaelra lowered her sword.
"NOW!"
The arrows were released.
Hundreds of them tore through the sky.
The enemy soldiers roared as the Medusas charged forward.
