Chapter 328: Ungrateful

He pushed open the door to the private room and was met with the fragrance of tea.

A beautiful woman in casual clothes was sitting there, brewing tea.

Wen Ru!

This was their second meeting, but Li Yang was still taken aback when he saw her.

‘This woman is absolutely gorgeous!’

And Li Yang hadn’t expected the person who asked to meet him to be her.

“Please, sit.” Wen Ru glanced at Li Yang and gestured for him to take a seat.

Li Yang sat down and took a sip of tea.

“Aren’t you afraid I’ve poisoned it?” Wen Ru asked.

Li Yang smiled faintly. “Trying to poison something in my presence? It’d be like an apprentice showing off for the master.”

Wen Ru clicked her tongue. “No wonder you were so confident about curing Lu Da’s poison. You really do know your medicine.”

‘Lu Da… so that must be the middle-aged man’s name.’

‘Still, the way she says her husband’s name… there’s no warmth in it.’

“What if Lu Da wanted you to stay by his side permanently? Would you be willing?” Wen Ru asked.

Li Yang froze for a moment, then shook his head. “Of course not. I have my own life to live. How could I possibly stay by his side?”

“Maitreya was the one who poisoned Lu Da this time. It was a deadly poison, and if it weren’t for you, he’d be dead. Now he’s afraid. After all, it’s difficult to guard against being poisoned. That’s why he wants to keep you by his side. With you around, he’d have an insurance policy and wouldn’t have to worry about assassins using poison anymore.”

Li Yang gave a dry laugh. “You can tell him I’m not interested.”

“This isn’t about your interest,” Wen Ru said coolly. “Whatever he decides to do, he does. And he always succeeds.”

Li Yang raised an eyebrow. “So he’s planning to use force, is he?”

Wen Ru smiled. “He’s done that sort of thing many times.”

“But I saved his life!” Li Yang was starting to get angry.

“He’s done plenty of ungrateful things, too,” Wen Ru said.

Li Yang was stunned into silence, not knowing what to say.

After a moment, he calmed down. “Listening to you, it doesn’t sound like you’re here to plead his case.”

“Your medical skills are impressive…” Wen Ru finally said. “I have an appreciation for talent, so I came to give you a heads-up.”

‘An appreciation for talent?’

Suddenly, Li Yang laughed.

“You shouldn’t have come,” Wen Ru said, looking at Li Yang and shaking her head earnestly. “Wouldn’t it have been better to just mind your own business? Why did you have to come here?”

Li Yang replied, “I didn’t want to. But… you people were trying to kill the great snake. What was I supposed to do?”

“All for a snake? Was it really worth it?” Wen Ru asked.

Li Yang frowned. “I just thought it was a shame… Fine. Since it has come to this, there’s no need for me to go back. Tell you what, I’ll finish this tea, and then I’m leaving.”

“Leave?” Wen Ru suddenly laughed. “How could you possibly leave? Do you think just running away from here means you’ve left for good?”

Li Yang froze.

“Do you have any idea how powerful he is?” Wen Ru said, staring at him. “Across this entire province, in the criminal underworld, he can blot out the sky with a single hand if he wishes. Where could you possibly run?”

Li Yang hadn’t expected Lu Da to be so powerful. He was stunned for a moment before replying, “I’m no pushover myself. Besides, I have no grudge against him. In fact, I saved his life…”

“It’s useless,” Wen Ru said flatly. “Telling him any of that is a waste of breath.”

Li Yang fumed, “Then what the hell does he want?”

“There are three possible outcomes: you either work for him, you die, or he dies…” Wen Ru said coolly. “Take your pick.”

“You’re insane!” Li Yang cursed, shaking his head. He stood up. “That’s enough. Don’t say another word. I’m leaving now.”

Wen Ru didn’t try to stop him. She just watched quietly as he left.

‘Young man, you’re still so naive. You think you can just leave now? Do you really think you can get away?’

Li Yang hurried back to his hotel and noticed he was being followed again.

This time, he was certain they were Lu Da’s men.

He didn’t bother trying to lose them this time. He just packed his things, checked out of his room, and got ready to go.

But as soon as he stepped outside with his bag slung over his shoulder, he saw several cars parked out front.

The Little Gangster Girl and the man in glasses were standing in front of one of the cars. “Going somewhere?” she asked Li Yang.

Li Yang glanced at them, displeased. “I’m leaving.”

“The boss wants me to bring you back,” the Little Gangster Girl said. “Come on, he wants to treat you to dinner.”

‘Treat me to dinner?’

Before, Li Yang might have believed them. But after being followed, and after Wen Ru’s warning, he wasn’t stupid enough to fall for that.

“Not interested,” Li Yang said, shaking his head. “Go back. Just tell him I’ve already left.”

Just then, a dozen burly men moved to surround Li Yang.

He could see the bulges of guns under their clothes. They weren’t brandished openly, but the threat was clear.

A murderous glint appeared in Li Yang’s eyes.

‘I saved your life, and this is how you repay me?’

No matter how good-natured Li Yang was, he was furious now.

But starting a fight with them in broad daylight, out in public, would be a messy affair.

So, Li Yang took a deep breath and said, “Alright, fine. Let’s go. I’ll go back with you.”
