The Supreme Village Doctor
Chapter 340: Exchange
Li Yang laughed. “That’s because you’re ignorant. It’s as simple as that.”
“You!” The young man flew into a rage, pointing at Li Yang. “I’m a doctor. What are you?”
“I’m a doctor too!” Li Yang rolled his eyes, not wanting to waste his breath on the guy. He stepped forward and said, “I’m a village doctor. I might not be some big-shot physician, but I know a thing or two about treating people. If you don’t know what you’re doing, step aside. Don’t get in the way of me saving a life.”
The young man sneered. “And here I was wondering who you were. Turns out you’re just a lowly village doctor. This is my master, Liu Mingzhang, a grandmaster of Chinese medicine. I’ll tell you what. You want to save him? Fine. I won’t stop you. But if you make things worse, we will be witnesses.”
Liu Mingzhang looked at Li Yang, his brow furrowed.
But Li Yang had already reached the child’s side and quickly began to apply pressure.
Li Yang knew countless massage techniques. Some were merely for relieving fatigue, but others were specifically for convulsions caused by illness.
Just like the situation now.
Li Yang’s hands started pressing on the child’s body. At first, the boy was still thrashing about, but after less than a minute, the frequency of his movements had clearly decreased.
After another five minutes of massage, the convulsions had almost completely stopped.
The young man, who had been gearing up to mock Li Yang, was now dumbfounded.
As for Liu Mingzhang, his eyes were shining as he watched Li Yang in disbelief.
‘This technique… It’s simply divine!’
‘And the results are immediate!’
Once the child’s convulsions ceased, Li Yang continued the massage for a few more minutes before stopping. He looked up and said, “Ma’am, the boy is fine now. Just make sure he drinks plenty of water later and stays out of the sun, understand?”
“Thank you…” Seeing that her child was all right, the mother thanked Li Yang profusely.
The other onlookers were clucking their tongues in amazement. This young man was incredible.
By comparison, the young man who had stepped out first was a total hack. All talk and no action—what damn good was he?
The young man’s face turned beet-red with embarrassment. He had no idea what to do.
However, judging by the way he was sulking, it was clear he wasn’t ready to admit defeat.
Li Yang quickly returned to his seat.
Following him, Liu Mingzhang and his two apprentices also returned.
The young man was still unconvinced. The moment he sat down, he said, “Master, I think the boy’s convulsions were about to stop on their own. He just got lucky. There’s no way he was the one who stopped them with a massage.”
To this, Li Yang just smiled without offering an explanation.
But Liu Mingzhang scolded him, “What did I tell you when you began studying medicine? Be humble! Seek truth from facts! And now you’re just spouting nonsense, is that it? The patient’s convulsions were nowhere near their peak. How could they have just stopped on their own? It’s perfectly clear that this young man used a massage technique to stop the spasms.”
Chastised by Liu Mingzhang, the young man didn’t dare say another word and could only sit there awkwardly.
“My young friend, I am so sorry!” Liu Mingzhang said to Li Yang. “My apprentice was out of line just now. Please forgive him.”
Since the man had put it that way, Li Yang simply nodded and said, “It’s nothing.”
“I never imagined someone so young could possess the skills of a Divine Doctor. It’s truly been an eye-opening experience!”
“Master, don’t put him on such a pedestal!” the young man said again in a passive-aggressive tone. “All he did was a massage. What does that have to do with Chinese medicine?”
“You fool!” Liu Mingzhang roared. “Don’t you know that massage is one of the original techniques of our Chinese medicine? What do you know!”
The young man was utterly mortified.
Li Yang couldn’t help but find it amusing. ‘What kind of apprentice is this? He doesn’t even know that?’
“What was that technique you used just now?” Liu Mingzhang asked eagerly. “It was incredible! Can it really alleviate spasms?”
Li Yang smiled and said, “It’s a massage technique I learned called Tendon Return. It is indeed miraculously effective for spasms and convulsions.”
Liu Mingzhang looked aghast. “Tendon Return? You mean the Tendon Return mentioned in the ancient texts?”
Li Yang went, “Uh…” ‘I’m not actually sure about that. I just know it’s in the medical codex. As for ancient texts… I really have no idea.’
“Young friend, could you teach me?” Liu Mingzhang asked, steeling himself. “A massage technique like this is simply divine. I thought it had been lost to time, but to think that you know it… Could you please teach me?”
Li Yang was dumbfounded.
‘This…’
‘Is it really that amazing?’
His hesitation made Liu Mingzhang think he was unwilling to teach. He immediately pulled a book from his bag and said earnestly, “Young friend, I know I’m making an unreasonable request, but my intentions are not selfish. I have a rare book here that I happened to acquire in the southwest. It contains some very unusual case studies. Of course, most of them are without solutions—it’s more for observation. If you’re willing, I would like to trade this book for your knowledge.”
Li Yang paused for a moment, then took the book.
“Master…” the young man began, “someone offered you a million for that book and you refused to sell. And now you’re just giving it away?”
