Chapter 1629: Chapter 1586: The Most Important Thing Is for the Quinn Family to Have an Heir
Returning to the Four Seasons Courtyard, Marcus Quinn headed to the kitchen to boil water for fruit oolong tea. Tara Chase went to make the bed; the linens were all new and stored in the cabinet. Halfway through, she heard a knock at the door.
Tara listened closely to confirm she wasn’t hearing things. She thought about calling Marcus Quinn, but remembered his slightly sullen expression when he returned, so she went through the courtyard to open the door herself.
The lights in the courtyard were all on; Tara opened the door and poked her head out, spotting a black sedan parked outside, and a slender man in a suit standing at the door looking very dignified. She was taken aback and asked, “Excuse me, who are you looking for?”
Sage Howard looked at the young girl who poked her head out, smiled slightly, the crow’s feet at the corners of his eyes lifting, and spoke warmly, “Is Marcus Quinn here?”
“He is.” Tara opened the door and shouted toward the kitchen, “Marcus, someone’s here for you.”
Involuntarily, Tara stepped aside to make way, instinctively feeling that a night visitor was not simple.
Sage Howard entered the courtyard, glanced at Tara, then continued smiling. When he saw Marcus Quinn come out with a pot of tea, his smile deepened, and he said emotionally, “Marcus, why didn’t you call me when you returned to the Imperial City?”
“Uncle Howard, what brings you here? I was planning to visit you with Tara tomorrow.” Marcus Quinn placed the brewed fruit tea on the stone table in the courtyard, and the usually reticent man smiled.
“Haha, I happened to be free tonight. I heard from the neighbors that there’s activity at your place, so I came to take a look.” Uncle Howard laughed heartily, “Did you bring your girlfriend back? It’s about time to come back.”
Uncle Howard said as he sat down in the courtyard. Marcus hurriedly poured him tea and, seeing Tara still standing there, quickly pulled her over and gently touched her slightly cold hand, introducing in a low voice, “Tara, this is Uncle Howard whom I’ve mentioned to you. Uncle Howard, this is my fiancée, Tara Chase.”
“Hello, Uncle Howard.” Tara’s hand was held by the man, warming it up, and the inexplicable feeling of disappointment throughout the evening gradually dissipated. She then smiled at Sage Howard.
“Hello, please sit down. I haven’t seen Marcus in years. Let’s all sit down and chat. I’ll have someone bring some snacks and drinks over. Old Master Quinn has some good liquor hidden in the courtyard, but says it’s only for your wedding day, not to be touched.” Sage Howard laughed, and then called his secretary to prepare snacks.
The secretary waiting at the door quickly replied and drove off to buy snacks.
Marcus entered the house and fetched a thicker coat for Tara, bought just today as autumn attire, then went to cut some fruit.
The man helped Tara put on the coat before sitting down.
Seeing this, Tara’s heart couldn’t help but tremble. She had guessed that Marcus was a bit unhappy in the evening, but he still cared for her attentively, noticing her thin clothing, fearing she might catch a cold.
Tara finally felt happier and saw Uncle Howard sip the fruit tea, surprised, “Why is it oolong tea with fruit? I remember you don’t usually like fruit tea?”
“Tara likes it, so I’ve gotten used to drinking it with her.” Marcus smiled faintly and said.
Sage Howard laughed heartily, looking at Tara, and asked, “I see, Miss Chase, Marcus is like a half-nephew to me, and I shamelessly consider myself family, so I’ll nag a bit. May I ask where you’re from and what do your parents do?”
Tara didn’t know that he was the eldest son of the prestigious Howard Family in the Imperial City, but she could see that Uncle Howard was extraordinary, not an ordinary person, so she said earnestly, “I’m from Seacoast, my parents are no longer here, but my family used to run an antique business.”
Upon hearing this, Sage Howard nodded and his tone became more amiable, saying, “Marcus is a dependable good kid. After you marry, feel free to visit the Howard Family often; I’ve always treated Marcus as my own son.”
Tara nodded quickly. Because her parents were already gone, Sage Howard didn’t continue inquiring about her family situation. Seeing that the girl was clever and perceptive, and knowing Marcus’s stable character, he thought a girl he liked must be good, so he turned to chat with Marcus about recent events.
“Are you visiting the Imperial City this time, or planning to settle down? The local specialties you sent before were really nice; Mrs. Howard enjoyed them very much and kept talking about you.”
Marcus smiled faintly and said in a deep voice, “I returned to my grandfather’s ancestral home, and those specialties are all things grandfather has been cultivating. If Mrs. Howard likes them, I’ll send some fresh ones over when I can.”
