the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1631 - 1586: The Most Important Thing Is That the Quinn Family Has an Heir_3
Even though Marcus Quinn said that, Ada still felt a bit restrained. The two of them brought out bowls and chopsticks, and saw Sage Howard and his secretary had already laid out a whole table of late-night snacks, the wine was poured, and they were calling Marcus over to drink.
Ada of course couldn’t drink, so she poured herself a cup of fruity oolong tea. Marcus took a pig’s trotter for her, and Ada put on disposable gloves and quietly gnawed on it off to the side, listening to Sage and Marcus drink and chat.
Looking at this Uncle Howard again now, Ada couldn’t help substituting in all kinds of news footage, and her whole body gave a shiver. She felt she’d really been frightened too much lately. She needed to eat another pig’s trotter to calm her nerves.
"This braised pork knuckle isn’t as good as Old Quinn’s. Back in the day, his cooking was the best in the Imperial City. Plenty of people lined up just to cozy up to him, hahaha, too bad they never got to eat any." After three cups of wine, Sage Howard’s mood got better and better, and he laughed heartily as he spoke.
"Marcus, don’t bother going to my place tomorrow. Old Lu, Old Lu(2) and the others know you’re back, so they’ll definitely all come over. Just put together a full table of food and wine here, and we’ll eat and drink together. I remember Old Quinn’s skills, you learned them all."
Marcus laughed and said, "Alright, then tomorrow night I’ll make a whole table of dishes and invite all you uncles over for dinner."
"Explain to me how you suddenly lost your mind and refused to stay in the Imperial City. If you were there, we’d be closer, and eating together would be easier." Uncle Howard said with a deeply aggrieved look.
The secretary watched and laughed. "Chief, even if Mr. Quinn was in the Imperial City, you still couldn’t drink every day. Drinking tonight is already breaking the rules."
"Go, go, go, you’re even more of a nag than our old lady at home." Uncle Howard said with an expression full of disgust, then turned back to Marcus to keep drinking.
"I’ll soak some medicinal liquor for Uncle Howard in the next couple of days. If Uncle wants to drink, he can drink that instead." Marcus thought for a moment and said.
The secretary was overjoyed. "Good, good, good. The Chief has been overworked in recent years and the doctors won’t let him drink. If he can drink medicinal liquor, that would be best."
"All that’s trivial, we’ll talk about it later. Marcus, now that you’re back this time, what are you planning for the wedding? If you ask me, you should hold it in the Imperial City." After a few cups of wine, Sage Howard’s aura came out and he said, "If Old Quinn were still here, he’d definitely agree to a grand affair."
Marcus glanced at Ada and saw her with those big dark eyes, gnawing on her pig’s trotter, her little mouth stained bright red. He took a tissue to wipe the corner of her lips and said calmly, "I need to discuss this with Ada."
Which basically meant he wasn’t willing. Ada understood perfectly and kept gnawing on her pig’s trotter.
She also didn’t want to hold it in the Imperial City; she didn’t know the place or the people. And if she wasn’t mistaken, Caspian Yarn was also in the Imperial City and still hadn’t married that Miss from the Shaw Family. If her and Marcus’s wedding was held in the Imperial City, this Uncle Howard and those other uncles and elders she’d never met would all come. There’d be no way not to attract attention. Ada instinctively felt that wasn’t good.
After all, she and Caspian still technically had an engagement, and back when she was kidnapped and went missing she’d also picked up a bad reputation. All of that was still uncertain factors.
When Sage Howard heard that, he immediately knew Marcus had other ideas, and he became unhappy. He downed a cup of wine and said, "I heard you donated all the assets Old Quinn left you. Luckily you didn’t touch the house. You won’t enter the Military District, you won’t take the political path, all that ability you’ve got is just being wasted. And now you won’t even hold a big wedding—how are we supposed to answer to Old Quinn? You leave the Imperial City and the Duncan Family thrives? Just thinking about it pisses me off."
The secretary heard the direction this was going, and if Sage drank a couple more cups he’d start cursing the Duncan Family bloody, so the secretary quickly smoothed things over with a cheerful smile.
What was with the Duncan Family? Ada had already heard it mentioned twice that night, but it didn’t really stick in her mind.
"Uncle Howard, Ada’s family is in the Seacoast, and there are things over there that still haven’t been settled, so the wedding will probably be held next year. The two of us will register first." Marcus steered the topic away.
"Registering is good, registering is very good." Sage Howard was drinking too fast, and the topic got dragged along. He immediately nodded with a squinty smile and said, "Register early, have kids early. The Quinn Family having descendants is the most important thing."
That one line made Ada’s face burn. Sure enough, when men drink she really shouldn’t be sitting around listening. She just wanted to go back and sleep.
Marcus was attentive down to the smallest detail. Seeing her head lowered, probably feeling shy, he tugged at her sleeve, leaned toward her, and said softly, "If you’re sleepy, I’ll walk you back to sleep."
Ada looked at the whole table of late-night snacks; it really wasn’t as tasty as what Marcus cooked. So she nodded, glanced at the fruity oolong tea, and decided, with some pain, to go back and sleep. After all, back at the Holiday Village, Marcus would cook delicious food for her every day and brew fruity tea to drink. There was no rush these two days.
