The Viltrumite Across the Worlds
Chapter 330: Divine Punishment
"Jovian?"
Wanda frowned when she heard the name. She had never heard of him before.
"Don’t think too much about it."
"I’m not particularly famous across the multiverse."
Jovian smiled lightly at Wanda.
"The multiverse..."
Wanda became thoughtful the moment Jovian mentioned it.
In truth, she had already discovered a path into the multiverse. She had once believed that if she could obtain the Darkhold, she would gain enough power to bring her children back.
But now, it seemed she had been wrong.
Just as the man before her had said, if she had never truly had those children in the first place, how could she resurrect them?
"How are you going to help me create children?"
Wanda raised her head and looked at Jovian.
"Interesting question. I could simply create two children out of nothing, although they wouldn’t share any blood relation with you."
"Or we could use the more traditional method and let you give birth to two children yourself."
"Of course, my actual recommendation is that if you want children this badly, you could simply adopt two from an orphanage."
Jovian gave Wanda three suggestions.
In other words, she had three choices.
"Those are certainly... choices."
Wanda stared at the three options Jovian had casually written into the air and fell into deep thought.
"That’s the situation. Think it over yourself."
Jovian leaned backward as he spoke, and a sofa appeared behind him for him to sit on.
"I choose the second one. I want to give birth to my children like an ordinary mother."
"I want to be an ordinary mother. Just an ordinary mother..."
Wanda kept repeating the word ordinary under her breath.
"Looks like your own power really has driven you half insane."
Jovian sighed helplessly as he watched Wanda obsessively repeat the word.
Clearly, she was another person cursed by having far too much talent.
Wanda reminded Jovian of someone else.
Jean Grey was the same way, another woman tormented by power far beyond what an ordinary person should possess.
"In that case, I’ll help set you free."
Jovian stood and walked toward Wanda.
A moment later, clothes began slipping onto the floor.
Elsewhere, in the vastness of space...
A man wielding a blade traveled from world to world on a bloody crusade.
He wore a red bodysuit and hung upside down in the sky, clutching a sword supposedly capable of killing any god, All-Black the Necrosword.
At least, the man himself believed his blade could kill every god in existence.
The fundamental reason he had taken up the weapon and begun slaughtering gods was simple.
The god he had once worshiped had betrayed him.
His prayers had never mattered.
The god he worshiped cared only about himself.
Over the many years this man named Gorr had wandered the universe slaughtering gods with All-Black, the people of the cosmos gradually gave him a title.
Gorr the God Butcher.
"Spare me!"
"Please, have mercy!"
On one planet, a native god desperately begged for his life.
"Heh. Where were all of you when I was the one begging?!"
Gorr raised his sword and viciously brought it down.
The blade pierced the god’s body and completely devoured his power until the deity died.
After slaughtering yet another god, Gorr broke into a crazed smile.
"You killed another god. Very impressive..."
Just as the God Butcher began laughing, a voice suddenly reached his ears.
"Who’s there?!"
Gorr’s expression changed.
He spun around and discovered that at some point, a muscular man had appeared nearby and was quietly watching him.
"Are you a god too?!"
Gorr looked the white-clad man up and down, his expression immediately darkening.
"I might be. Probably. Possibly."
The man in white gave him an intentionally vague answer.
"Then die!"
The instant Gorr heard that the man might be a god, he attacked without hesitation, swinging All-Black directly at him.
"This is what you’re relying on?"
The self-proclaimed god didn’t take Gorr’s weapon seriously at all.
He simply raised two fingers and caught the blade between them.
"What?!"
Gorr panicked as he stared at the man holding his sword between two fingers.
This was the first time anyone had ever stopped his weapon like that.
"Heh. You’re interesting."
"You really believe that a little blade created by a god can kill every god in the universe?"
"You already know that’s impossible. If it were possible, you wouldn’t be searching for Eternity."
"You think Eternity will grant your wish simply because you ask?"
"And what happens if there are gods in this universe even stronger than Eternity?"
"You still wouldn’t be able to kill every god."
The man in white continued speaking without giving Gorr a chance to interrupt.
"Enough! Enough!"
Gorr roared furiously.
The reason he was so angry was precisely because he knew the mysterious man was right.
That was what enraged him most.
"You’ve gotten angry..."
"Because you’ve finally realized that you can’t accomplish your goal."
"So why don’t you calm down and think about what you actually can do?"
"You possess tremendous power. Why not use it to collect the Infinity Stones and bring your wife and daughter back?"
"What if the Infinity Stones could resurrect your wife? Wouldn’t letting Thanos have them be an incredible waste?"
"And another thing..."
"If you’re allowed to exterminate every god simply because a god ignored your prayers, does that mean a god should be allowed to exterminate every mortal whenever mortals refuse to obey?"
"Don’t you think your worldview is a little extreme?"
The man’s endless arguments began to feel like mental torture to Gorr.
"Enough! Enough! Shut up! Shut the fuck up!"
Gorr gripped All-Black and began hacking wildly at the man.
SNAP!
The man said nothing.
He simply snapped his fingers.
In an instant, Gorr’s daughter appeared directly in front of him.
"Dad?"
Love looked at Gorr and smiled excitedly.
SHNK!
Then came the sound of a blade piercing flesh.
All-Black plunged straight through his daughter’s heart.
"Dad... I’m cold..."
Love’s expression went blank as her body rapidly grew colder.
The Necrosword drained every drop of blood and vitality from her body.
"My daughter! No! No! NO!"
Gorr stared at the daughter he had just killed with his own hands, his eyes filling with tears.
He remembered the way she had originally died while he prayed helplessly beside her.
She had looked exactly like this.
Pitiful.
Small.
Helpless.
"Ah, that’s really unfortunate, Gorr."
"I went through all the trouble of bringing your daughter back to life, and then you killed her again."
"Truly tragic."
Jovian sighed helplessly as he looked at Gorr.
"I didn’t kill my daughter! You killed her!"
Gorr roared and swung All-Black at Jovian again.
SHNK!
The blade pierced flesh.
Blood sprayed through the air.
"Gorr..."
Just as Gorr thought he’d finally managed to kill the god before him, he heard a voice that had haunted his dreams for years.
Gorr slowly raised his head.
Standing before him was his wife.
The wife he had just impaled with his own sword.
"AAAAARGH!!"
Gorr completely lost control.
"WHY?! Why are you doing this to me?!"
Gorr roared at the man in white who had first resurrected his daughter, then his wife, only to manipulate events so that Gorr killed both of them with his own hands.
"I didn’t do anything, Gorr."
"I resurrected your wife and daughter. You killed them."
"If you’d come at me with a hug instead of a sword, they would already be in your arms right now, Gorr."
Jovian walked over and spoke quietly beside him.
"Why...? Why...?"
Gorr dropped All-Black and stared at Jovian in confusion.
"Go home, Gorr. This isn’t the path you’re supposed to walk."
Jovian gently patted him on the shoulder and pointed him toward another direction.
"..."
Gorr turned around.
A doorway stood behind him.
A doorway leading back to his homeworld.
"I’m going to kill every god!"
Gorr suddenly tightened his grip around All-Black again and prepared to strike Jovian.
"You want to kill every god?"
"That’s very interesting, Gorr..."
Jovian smiled and extended one finger toward him.
BOOM!
A bolt of lightning instantly entered Gorr’s body.
"AAAAARGH!!"
Gorr screamed.
Every cell in his body felt as though it were exploding.
In the blink of an eye, he was no longer mortal.
He had become a god.
"No! No! NO!"
Gorr roared as he sensed the transformation.
He finally understood exactly what Jovian had done.
Because Gorr had sworn to kill every god, Jovian had simply turned Gorr himself into one.
"So, can you still kill every god now?"
Jovian looked at him.
"Yes! Once I’ve killed all the others, I’ll kill myself!"
Gorr answered without hesitation.
"Excellent!"
Jovian smiled in satisfaction.
With a wave of his hand, the wife and daughter Gorr had killed were resurrected once again.
This time, however, Jovian also transformed both of them into gods.
"How about now, Gorr?"
"Can you still kill every god?"
Jovian looked at him.
"Dad, are you going to kill me again?"
Love slowly walked toward her father as she asked the question.
THUD!
Gorr looked at his wife and daughter.
Then he looked at Jovian.
Finally, he walked forward, dropped to his knees before Jovian, raised All-Black over his head with both hands, and presented it to him.
"Looks like you finally understand you were wrong."
Jovian accepted All-Black.
Then he casually bent the blade.
CRACK!
The sword created by Knull shattered completely in his hands.
"Go home, Gorr. Go back to your family."
"If you wanted to slaughter the gods because the god you worshiped refused to answer you, then now that you’ve become a god yourself, I hope you’ll remember that lesson."
"Whether your believers pray for something great or something insignificant, answer them."
By the time Gorr raised his head again, Jovian had vanished without a trace.
"..."
Gorr said nothing.
He simply remained there, reflecting on everything he had done.
With Gorr successfully talked down by Jovian, there was naturally no longer any reason for Thor to make an appearance.
Everything was over.
The story of Gorr the God Butcher ended here.
From this moment onward, the universe had only Gorr the God.
He intended to walk a different path from all the gods who had come before him.
Jovian was curious to see how that would turn out.
When Jovian returned to Earth with a thought...
"Jovian! You’re finally back!"
Doctor Strange came looking for him, with Spidey accompanying him.
"What’s wrong?"
Jovian looked at the visibly anxious Doctor Strange and Peter Parker.
"Mr. Jovian, I got all my memories back!"
"But you know that wasn’t what I meant..."
Peter looked desperately at Jovian.
He really had become somewhat tired of being Spider-Man, but he certainly hadn’t meant that Jovian should transform literally everyone else on Earth into Spider-Man while leaving Peter as the only normal person.
"I thought you wanted everyone in the universe to understand what you were going through."
Jovian answered Peter.
"I appreciate your help, Mr. Jovian, but you helped a little too much..."
"I’d like you to restore everything to how it was before. I’ll figure out the rest myself."
Peter gave Jovian an apologetic smile.
"All right."
Jovian didn’t particularly care.
If Peter didn’t like his current life, then they could simply end it.
SNAP!
Jovian snapped his fingers again.
Everything in the universe instantly returned to normal.
"Thank you for helping me, Mr. Jovian!"
Peter thanked him sincerely.
"Where did you go, Jovian?"
Doctor Strange immediately questioned him.
Frankly, something about Jovian’s expression made Strange nervous.
He had the distinct feeling that Jovian had gone off and done something absolutely insane, so he wanted to find out what it was before any consequences appeared.
"Nothing important."
Jovian shook his head.
"I just went and starred in a couple of movies."
"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, things like that."
Doctor Strange stared at him, completely unable to understand what Jovian was talking about.
"Anyway, please stop wandering around..."
"This universe is already chaotic enough."
Doctor Strange practically begged him.
"All right."
Jovian disappeared from Doctor Strange’s sight in a flash.
"..."
Doctor Strange silently watched him leave.
For some reason, he strongly suspected Jovian hadn’t listened to a single word he’d said.
Within Eternity’s realm...
A muscular man whose body contained countless stars sat cross-legged within the infinite space, seemingly lost in thought.
"Hello, Eternity!"
Before the great cosmic entity known as Eternity could finish whatever he was contemplating, Jovian appeared directly in front of him.
