The Wizard's Pursuit of Truth
Chapter 328: Wang Ya vs. Duoguyin, Dominant Suppression
“White Rat, to think you actually held out hope for a bunch of fools. I knew from the very beginning they wouldn’t succeed,” a wizard said nonchalantly, one foot propped on the railing, twirling a small black knife in his right hand. His stiff, technologically advanced face, with its infrared Artificial Eye for a pupil, was observing the situation inside the City Lord’s Mansion.
“Mo Kui, you seem to have quite the opinion of me,” White Rat remarked, glancing over with a strange look in his eyes.
Naturally, one could not discern any change in expression on the face of an Extreme Wizard. The sight of that swiveling infrared Artificial Eye was enough to cause a visceral sense of unease.
“Alright, quiet down.” The speaker was a youthful-looking wizard in a black Wizard Robe. His face was covered in all kinds of inscribed patterns, which seemed to be the traces of a Witch Array Technique.
He closed his eyes and his brows furrowed slightly. A surge of Extraordinary Spiritual Power emanated from him, causing the few figures around him to subconsciously take a step back, so as not to disturb him.
A tall, thin wizard with a face as pale as a sheet of paper stood nearby. His name was Johnson.
He coughed once, and an unnatural flush spread across his skin, as if he’d been painted with a coat of lacquer.
“How is the situation?” Johnson asked Aiden, who had now opened his eyes.
“According to our contact, the situation is still under control. Only six Wizards are coming as reinforcements. Three of them are Extreme Wizard Apprentices, and we should pay attention to them—they’re all chief-level from their Inheritance Lineages.”
“The others are just Level 3 Wizard Apprentices, nothing to worry about.” Aiden glanced at Duoguyin and smiled. “That Wang Ya Harak is one of them. He’s become quite famous at the Natural Ring Tower, hasn’t he? Famous enough to make the promising Wizard Rilis fall so far that she has to join us on this suicide mission.”
“To think the Power of a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice was enough to foil Rilis so thoroughly.” Duoguyin’s long, snake-like tongue darted out to lick his purple lips. “How truly interesting. I wonder what he tastes like.”
Aiden continued, “Our contact said we just need to cause as big of a scene as possible and kill as many people as we can. Ideally, we should kill every Wizard in White Lake Wizard City. The Wizards in the City Lord’s Mansion must die as well. And if we can eliminate the six reinforcements from the Dark Hand, all the better.”
White Rat’s eyes went wide. He couldn’t help but shout, “Are you kidding me? Those are chiefs! They’re the strongest of the Extreme Wizard Apprentices! How are we supposed to kill a chief?”
“Even if all five of us attack together, we won’t be able to kill three chiefs.”
If they caught a chief alone, they might be able to kill them.
But the chiefs weren’t fools. If one decided to flee, they wouldn’t be able to stop them.
In fact, once you reached the Extreme Wizard Apprentice Level, it was very difficult to kill your opponent in a fight.
Unless you had overwhelming Power or specific conditions were met, that is.
Chiefs were the strongest among the Extreme Wizard Apprentices. They had almost no weaknesses; they were practically perfect.
Their combat instincts were too sharp to let them get ganged up on by the five of them.
Aiden glanced at him and said flatly, “No one is asking you to fight the chiefs. Our job is just to kill, to make the streets of White Lake Wizard City run with blood.”
“You can handle killing those three Level 3 Wizard Apprentices, can’t you?”
White Rat snorted. “Who do you think you’re talking to?”
Duoguyin cut in, “Leave Wang Ya Harak to me.”
Aiden nodded and added, “During the teleportation, the three chiefs were sent to a location far from White Lake Wizard City. It will take them at least thirty minutes to get here.”
“The same goes for any subsequent Wizards teleporting in from the Dark Land.”
“So those three Level 3 Wizard Apprentices are in the city now, right?”
“The fluctuations from their Law Enforcement Wizard Robes can be tracked.”
Having gotten the answer he wanted, Duoguyin turned and left.
White Rat snorted again, leaped down from a different direction, and vanished without a trace.
“Those Wizards have served their purpose. It’s time to dispose of them.”
Mo Kui nodded.
Johnson coughed, his body trembling. “I don’t want to die here. The sooner we complete our contact’s demands, the sooner we get our ticket home.”
Aiden slowly floated up from the ground, his robes billowing. His eyes flickered. He was aware of the dark undercurrents swirling beneath this situation, but he had no desire to look into them.
‘Once this damned Wizard Task is complete, our past crimes will be wiped clean. We can return to the Natural Ring Tower and regain our status as Spirits of Nature.’
It was for this reason that all five of them had become the designated agents for this Wizard Task.
‘As for Rilis…’ Aiden had his suspicions, but it was none of his business.
….
“You’ve got to be kidding me. How did we end up so far off course?”
Sul and his two companions tumbled out of the Void, their faces deathly pale. Their Wizard Robes were in tatters, and Schneider had even sustained a serious injury to his right arm.
For once, Begging wasn’t his usual manic self. He thought calmly for a moment. “This isn’t right. We’re too far from White Lake Wizard City. Even if the Teleportation Array malfunctioned, it shouldn’t have sent us this far off.”
“And another thing—all three of us landed in the same spot.”
Schneider and Sul’s expressions turned grim. A terrible suspicion began to form in their minds, but they couldn’t be certain.
‘This could trigger an unprecedented upheaval, something even more terrifying than the great internal purge of the past.’
“If those other three made it into White Lake Wizard City… this is going to be a disaster.”
None of the three were fools. Too many coincidences pointed to a conspiracy, and a conspiracy, once set in motion, always leaves a trail.
