Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Weight Of The Bead(18+)

The morning after the bone and the bead were found inside the counted post, the valley woke under a heavier silence than any the Hollow Kin had left on the ridges.

The triple watches held.

First-band leads walked every high post and every internal path.

The three new finger bones and the second-band bead remained under stone in the council chamber, silent proof that the high rock had reached inside the line.

The tribe moved through its work with the careful steps of people who no longer trusted the ground under their own feet.

Kel was brought back into the deep chamber at first light.

The two witnesses repeated their words.

Kel repeated his denials.

The bead of the same style he and others had worn lay on the table between them. Still no clear hand.

Still only shadow thickening around his name.

Vara did not release him.

She widened the questions instead.

Every second-band fighter who had worn that style of bead in the last moon was pulled, one by one, and made to stand under the lamps while first-band guards watched the doors.

Most gave the same careful answers.

A few admitted they had heard Ral complain about the mixed watches.

None admitted to placing anything on a high post or to knowing how a Hollow Kin bone had found its way inside the count.

Elka was summoned near midday.

She came with Sura at her shoulder, tall and composed, the bone beads and teeth in her long braids catching the lamp light, fur cloak open over the strong, curved lines of her body.

She listened to the widened list of names without interruption.

When Vara finished, Elka spoke.

"You are pulling every man who has ever worn a common bead because the high rock left one of them with their bone inside a counted post.

That is not proof. That is fear looking for a throat to open. The Hollow Kin have shown they can reach places we thought safe. Using that fear to break my circle will not close the door they opened.

It will only show them the lower caves are already cutting themselves."

Vara’s voice stayed cold.

"The bead is real. The placement is real. The questions will continue until a hand is shown or every shadow around that style of bead has been dragged into the light.

Your circle will walk the new triple counts exactly as ordered.

Any.... further silence will be treated as the same kind of message the high rock left us."

Elka’s dark eyes moved to Korr, lingering on the newest shallow cut across his ribs and the way he stood at Vara’s shoulder.

"The Matron’s gladiator keeps answering the ridges. The tribe sees the bones he brings back.

They also see that the internal cut has not yet produced a public hand while the outer threat grows bolder.

Both things cannot remain true without someone deciding which fear to feed."

She left with Sura.

The ornaments at her hips clicked softly with each step.

Gron waited until the chamber was clear. "She is not wrong about the risk.

Pull too many names too quickly and the second band will decide the Matron is using the Hollow Kin’s message to finish what the clean cut started.

Leave the questions half-done and the tribe will decide she is afraid to finish them.

Either path gives the high rock what it wants: lower ground that is already bleeding itself."

Vara’s fingers rested on the growing collection of bones.

"Then we walk the narrow path.

The questions continue under stone.

The counts stay exact.

And the ridges keep seeing the first band walking them.

*****

Korr, you take the primary northern rotation at dawn with stronger numbers.

If they are bold enough to reach inside the watches, they may be bold enough to wait for the answer on the high trails.

I want the spine of the first band in front of whatever comes."

Korr inclined his head.

"And if the bead was placed by someone inside to open the door for them?"

"Then the questions will find that hand as well," Vara said.

"The claim that holds this kingdom still stands.

I will not let the high rock or the lower knives decide otherwise."

The rest of the day passed under the triple count. No fresh tracks appeared on the outer trails.

No new bones were left.

The quiet after the message felt heavier than the longer quiet that had come before it.

The tribe watched the ridges and each other with equal care.

That night Vara summoned Korr early.

The flap closed behind him.

The fire was already high.

She stood naked in the lamp light, the bone necklace resting between her heavy breasts, silver-streaked hair loose around her shoulders.

The day’s weight sat in the set of her mouth and the cold clarity of her eyes.

"They reached inside the count and left one of our own beads with their bone," she said. "Elka walks like the fear belongs to her to use.

Kel still gives nothing.

The ridges are waiting to see whether the lower caves open further."

She closed the distance.

"I will not give them the opening.

And I will not let the claim that holds you thin while both fronts press."

She pushed him back onto the furs with deliberate hands.

This time she did not take him inside her at once.

She turned, straddled his chest in reverse, and lowered her hips until the soft, full curve of her ass settled over his mouth.

"Eat my damn ass!"

Korr’s hands gripped her thighs.

He dragged his tongue through the cleft of her ass, slow and firm, pressing against the tight ring and working it with focused strokes.

She was already wet from the claim of the moment; the scent of her filled him as he licked deeper, tongue pushing, circling, claiming the place she offered.

Vara’s breath roughened.

She rocked back against his mouth, using him, one hand braced on his thigh while the other reached down and wrapped around his cock.

She stroked him in time with the movement of his tongue slow, tight pulls that milked him without letting him finish.

When she wanted more she lifted off his mouth only long enough to turn, straddle his hips, and lower her heavy breasts to his face.

"Suck my milky breast"

Korr took one dark nipple between his lips and drew on it hard.

She fed him the other in turn, hands braced on the furs beside his head, hips grinding down so the wet heat of her slid along the

length of his cock without taking him inside.

She used his mouth on her breasts the same way she used every other part of him claiming, controlling, taking what she wanted while the rest of the kingdom waited on both fronts.

Only when his breath had turned rough and her own thighs had begun to tremble did she rise, turn again, and settle her ass back over his face.

"Again. Deeper, my Gladiator."

He ate her ass while she milked him with her hand, the rhythm deliberate and denying.

She edged him twice, slowing when his hips thrust up into her fist, then starting again until his control frayed.

When she finally let him finish it was with a firm, steady milking that drew every thick pulse from him across her fist and onto the furs.

She watched it happen, then brought her fingers to her mouth and tasted him the same way she tasted the blood of his wounds.

Only after that did she climb over him, sink down onto his still-sensitive cock, and ride him with deep, rolling strokes.

She came first with a sharp, shaking cry, body clamping around him.

The pull of it dragged a second, weaker release from him while she kept moving through it, using his body for her own claim until she had taken everything he had to give.

Afterward she stayed seated on him, forehead against his, breathing slowing together.

"Dawn," she said quietly.

"Strong numbers.

If the Hollow Kin are waiting on the high trails for the answer to their message, I want the first band in front of it.

While you are gone I will pull every remaining name connected to that bead. Elka will not be given the fear as a tool.

The claim that holds you will not thin."

Korr’s hands rested on her hips.

"I will bring back whatever they leave.

Or their dead."

"Do both if you can," Vara answered.

"The ridges must see that the lower caves have not opened.

The tribe must see that the man who keeps answering the high rock still returns to these furs."
